Converted UM Captain

Recommended Posts

This is the first of a series of HQ conversions I'll be doing using the masters of the chapter boxed set. Also lined up are a librarian a chaplain and a fourth which I'm still trying to figure out how to do.

Anyway, captain first as it was the most straight forward. Just a weapon swap and a very minimal amount of cutting and green stuff for the hand holding the helmet.

Will try and get some painting done as well before I'm off on holiday Monday.

looking good, though might i suggest the hand be flattened out so that it doesn't look like the helmet is tipping out of his hand?

Doesn't really show in the pics but the helmet is actually hollowed out and his fingers are inside holding it.

Back from holiday now so a few more WIP images to come if my temperamental computer can hold together a bit longer.

Ok, it's taken a while to update anything due to my computer dieing along with my car and boiler so I've been slightly pre occupied.

Still on holiday though so a fair amount of progress although I realised whilst painting that I had a little more green stuffing that needed doing so I've had to stop and wait for it to set.

this kinda reminds me with what i did with my masters of the chapter. cept 3 of them turned chaos-ee, the master of the armoury is the only one to escape the chaos (if he hadn't he'd make for a good nurgle conversion). Your captain looks absolutely fantastic! keep it up!

Probably the best ultramarine I've seen (at least the best in quite a while). The blending on the armour and cloak is great, but I agree with jay and think the the emperors sword could do with some work to make it pop.

Kinda makes me want to get on with my one of these, I did exactly the same thing with the sword :) A very nice mini, with excellent paint work. Can't wait to see him finished. If I may add an opinion (which you're free to ignore) I think the helmet crest would look really good with red and white stripes.

Funny you should say that I did go for red and white stripes with a few black ones thrown in for good measure.

Terminator in hell, it's the guy with the axe which I've swapped for the Emperors champions sword I had knocking about.

Not too sure about the sword, don't know if I might try darkening the metal so the highlights pop more or maybe I'll try and give it a bit of a tint.

Almost finished, just a few bits to tidy up and still not sure about the sword

I think hes coming along great. All the blending and highlights look awesome. I think my only concern is the left should pad blade is bent towards his face. Maybe carefully tweek it up vertically a little. Other than that its a nice clean well painted model so far.

Good Job. :P

Thanks for all the comments, hoping to get it finished tonight so new pics in the hall of honor fairly soon if all goes to plan.

As for the blue the whole model is painted over a black undercoat with a first proper coat of midnight blue on all the Armour.

Then midnight blue mixed with regal blue over all but the deepest recesses (30/70)

pure regal blue moving further out

Regal mixed with ultramarine blue (30/70)

pure ultramarine

ultramarine and space wolves grey for a first highlight (60/40)

more space wolves grey added to the mix for the very edges (40/60)

can't be more help with exact mixtures as I go by what looks right and the previous blotches of color on my palette, I've put my best guesses in the brackets though.
