The Emperor's Green Dragons

I really like this scheme, and your custom chapter badges, really original :D

I was thinking of doing something similar for my Dark Angels, but as I want them to be darker, I was thinking of starting with boltgun metal, rather than mithril silver as a basecoat. What do think?

Switching to a darker metal, or going with a second layer of black wash all might do the trick (perhaps both!)

Do take a pic or two of the result for publishing. It is always good to learn how the process might be adapted for different results.

Time for a slight update!

After an easter break, I've managed to collect and assemble the various parts I neeeded for one of my projects, namely the Grim Reaper. Aside from looking badass on its own, it will serve as a counts as Emperor's Champion.

Can't wait to get this bad boy painted!

Here's a study in dark metallics, using Tin Bitz and Badab black.

Hopefully useful to you metallic painters out there.

Tin Bitz only.

I like what you've done. GW used to make metallic green I have a pot or two of it. It is a bit brighter than this. I don't have all the colors but I've long made colored metallics with washes or just mixing blue into silver. Vellejo makes a metallic medium you can mix with any color...

I bought some but I've yet to try it...

Go right ahead, shrike22. I'm looking forward to see how you'll highlight it.

Here's a
WIP
update on my counts as Emperor's Champion, from now on known as the Slayer.

Most of him is painted, but I need to figure out what to do with his eyes.

Leave them pitch black? Add a small red or blue dot in each (think Terminator)? Attempt to paint them as lenses with a colour gradient?

Some blood will also go on the blade, can't have a fresh throphy without it!

Oh, and then there is the severed head... I've always HATED painting bare skin!

I can't dodge this paintjob, though. Severed as the head might be, it still deserves attention.

Being dead isn't an excuse for beign ugly!

I'll take some time and test paint other heads before I move on to finish this, I want to be well practiced once I try. If anyone have tips of how to paint faces, now's the time to share!

Just got me a shipment of no less than 20 helmeted and visored heads from Pig Iron Productions!

I will use the heads to replace my Neophytes/scouts bare heads, as I find faces difficult to paint.

Should be interesting to learn how to paint reflections/highlights on the visor.

Here's how they'll look.

@ Metcalfedean. Thank you. I'm very glad I discovered your method and somewhat proud to have added to it with Tin Bitz!

@ Brother Anvilus. You're welcome. Sharing modelling ideas is what the forum is about, I'm glad you found it inspiring.

Here's a pic of my first sarge done with the DE iconography (he´s 95% done).

I'm sure some Iron Snakes player could find use for it, if the fins on the back of the dragon is cut.

@ Captain Mike. Viva is Spanish/Italian for "long live". So "Viva Metallica", as the method is called, would roughly translate to "Long live Metallics!"

I'm painting some 15 CCW/BP Scouts... I could use some input on their colour scheme.

Red shoulderpads & green carapace armour seems obvious, but I'm pondering on how to paint the fatigues.

Black with grey highlights? Khaki with some white highlight and a mud wash? Something entirely different?

Hit me with some ideas!

I think Khaki would be the best for the fatigues - dull enough to make the Green shine yet bright enough to keep it from dominating the model. Black would run the risk of disappearing in proportion so that you only see the green - the light fabric should make a good contrast.

If the helmet is green, what colour will the visor be?

Thank you all for your tips and comments! I've had a streak of not painting for a long while, but with the Call of the Imperium coming to and end, It's time to shape up and finish.

If the helmet is green, what colour will the visor be?

The visor would be black/very dark blueish with either grey or blue highlights for simulated reflections.

If I take the time to learn the technique, painting a gradual tone of orange-red-black would be cool.

Had I had the skills, having the visor look like Master Chief's from Halo would be perfect, but I don't even know how to begin to emulate that kind of effect. An orange background with simulated reflections... Perhaps something rainbowish, like oil spilled on water.
