Sarr Posted January 11, 2009 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Hello everyone. I'm Sarr, and I decided to join the LPC to motivate me to get off my arse and paint. I decided that I was sick of Loyalist chapters (I have a WIP BTs army that I will not post as it hurts me to look at some of the painting.... owns on the tabletop tho :)), and I had a AoBR Tactical Squad sitting around with Aquilas, Tac Arrows, and Purity Seals shaved off. Just chose a Legion, and decided to go for it. This is mainly an exercise in painting, not something I'll be using on the table but I'll be going for about tabletop quality. My basic plan with these guys is - Spray prime Black 1st coat - Necron Abyss 2nd coat - Regal Blue 1st Highlight - Enchanted Blue 2nd Highlight - Snot Green 3rd Highlight - Gobo Green Wash Badab Black Any advice on this? I haven't decided on Bolter Color yet, so opinions on that would be helpful. Pictures of the mostly-primed squad coming soon. EDIT - Pictures! Sorry but they're mostly just black-primed AoBR marines. Snozz Posted January 11, 2009 Share Posted January 11, 2009 I've always liked the Alpha legion, mainly because of the aura of mystery that surrounds them. They might not actually be traitors. It's slightly unclear who they fight for, and I like the idea of having a legion that operates in complete secrecy fighting for the survival of the Imperium whilst everyone else believes they are fighting against them. Maybe it's just me but I think the fluff is pretty damn cool. :lol: Anyways, the scheme sounds good, but don't forget to paint some very subtle scales on there. Just add a little bit of green to the blue so it's a similar colour and add some scales on the legs and possibly the shoulder pads. Also, basically done with the first stage of highlighting on the test model, just have the shoulderpads left as I'm not quite sure how to go about them. Just start at the edges and highlight in? Are you planning on using any cultists in your army? Alpha Legion are famous for thier rabble rousing and thier ability to corrupt an populace :) As to the painting, you may want to think about running a coat of Asurmen Blue wash over them, just to help blend the green and the blue a bit more Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Probably model them off Guardsmen with some fantasy bits. A friend of mine does some amazing cultists (he's Razakel on here) so I'll probably get his help with those. I will be using summoned daemons rule for my cultists, with the deepstrike rule representing their knowledge of the streets and sewers allowing them to appear from nowhere. WarpWhisper Posted January 24, 2009 Share Posted January 24, 2009 Nice to see more and more Alphas appear :D I'm with Hereticus on the wash with a wash ( :tu: ), although you'd need to go back over your freehand details afterwards (worth it in the long run I'd say) Nice use of the 'Aquila' too - I'd not seen that particular idea before. If you're using lots of scouts, then you could run a 'two-tier' system with them - keep weapons like snipers, ML, bolters on 'Operatives' modelled on scouts, and CCW/BP and shotguns on 'Cultists' based more on fantasy elements. Sorry for my lack of any activity at all, but... ok, I'm not even gonna make any excuses. Honestly when I started this, I expected to be done at this point. Some RL things have come up in the meantime, but that's still no excuse for having only 3 legionaries done. Yeah, that's right. I haven't done anything more on my LPC since my last update. like I said, I'm not making excuses. Most of it comes down to me being lazy. I've started up again, the first coat is drying on a pair of the remaining marines, and I want to get the rest at least to that point by the end of the day. Don't count me out yet. Aside from that, I still need to prime the bolters, backpacks, and Sergeant. It's gonna be close, but I think I can still make it. Watch here in the next few days for updates. Cheers, mates. Good to see I'm not the only one ;) Slight update, the basecoats of Necron Abyss are finished, so I might move on to the Regal Blue today. I hope to get at least to the freehanding and other details on everyone but the Missile Launcher Legionnaire and the Sergeant by the end of the week. Brother Gothard Posted February 12, 2009 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Dip your thinnest brush in Golden Yellow and run the tip in a fine line over the VERY edge of those green highlights. Keep the yellow paint thinned by keeping your brush wet. This will put a sharpness to the green and will drastically improve your highlights. If you can, maybe on the next batch you could keep the base highlight green a bit sharper. The highlights are a bit thick, spatially speaking. Some of them take up almost a quarter of the top part of the leg, so that when you`ve got one on the top and bottom, you`re left with very little leg!! Looks good, and I reckon with some tender care, they will look much better. Once you slap their bolters on, too, they`ll start looking really proper. Finally got around to picking up some Asurmen Blue, so I washed those that were ready for it, and did some a bit of freehanding. I also primed up the bolters and backpacks for the squad (The Aspiring Champion will get done in the next thing of priming I do), so without further ado I present to you two finished Legionaries. For the one on the left, I did the scales, washed him with Asurmen, then went over the scales and legion symbols with a final thing of Goblin Green, because I wanted them to pop a bit more. The one on the right had his scales done entirely after the blue wash. I'm still deciding which I like better. I'll do it if I have time, but I'm not saying they're unfinished if it's not done. Plus I don't have what I'd like to use for their basing laying around (like I said I'm fairly new to the hobby, so I don't have all the supplies). Basically I'd like to do this to them, then drybrush them white and add some modeling snow. And yeah I'm doing scales on everyone because as I thought about it, I decided I really like the hydra motif, so I want it to be kinda prominent. The chosen (I did some more thinking, and I'll be using these guys as normal chaos) will probably all have the DE corsair cloaks, and I have some plans for the DE War Hyrda...
