IG rumor that might affect SWs . . .

Just by the way, I never intended to imply that we would receive special permission to use the IG version of the LRE before we actually had our own new standalone codex. There is no reason to use it because we already have the full codex entry for our own. Sure, it would be inferior in every way if the IG version comes true, but the transfer from IG to SW straight away isn't what I'm hoping for. I'm just saying that since it already exists in the IG book, yes, with its own model that can be built from a variant in the standard box (not a big deal), then I see no reason why SWs wouldn't be allowed to have it. It would be like saying that the Blood Angels can very well expect to lose their Furioso-style dread when they get a new codex. Reason to believe that? None.

Well previously the Dark Angels lost the Mortis Pattern Dreadnaught that was origionally their creation only to see it return in Codex: Space Marines. Kinda like adding insult to injury. Under the DA adn BA trend it seemed likely that a lot of special units would be lost but with the huge surge of new stuff in the Codex: Space Marines it's now looking like the unique stuff will stay and maybe actually have new stuff added too.

Though if they turn Frost Blades into those lousy Relic Blades I'll break something.

I hope we get Relic Blades instead of Frostblades! Figure with most characters, you're looking at A4 at S6 or A5 at S5. Assume WS5 vs. WS 4, T4. Check out my math-fu.

Relic Blade - 2/3 to hit, 5/6 to wound, 4 attacks = 40/18 wounds

Frost Blade - 2/3 to hit, 2/3 to wound, 5 attacks = 20/9 = 40/18 wounds

So, against MEQ, it's the same.

Against T3, the FB is better. Against T5 or higher, the Relic Blade is better.

Vs T5:

RB - 2/3, 2/3 to wound, 4 attacks = 16/9 wounds = 32/18

FB - 2/3, 1/2 to wound, 5 attacks = 10/6 wounds = 30/18

It's like all the nashing about BCs losing Berserk Charge for Furious Charge. Statistically, FC is better against MEQs.

Back to OT. I think it's about 50/50 of Space Wolves getting a Leman Russ tank (exterminator, or any other variant). And that's maybe generous. But, hey, it's legal in APOC!

As to why SWs got the Exterminator and not a Demolisher or MBT. At the time, GW Dev thought giving either the Demolisher or MBT to a MEQ army was too overpowering. Since CSM have a battlecannon on the Defiler, they obviously don't think that way anymore. But, that doesn't mean we'd get access to the MBT.

Something to keep in mind, the most likely chapter to do something that they're 'not supposed to' is SW. I posted this on dakka, but imagine a conversation between Marneus Calgar and Logan Grimnar at the Fang.

MC, "Logan, you can't have any Leman Russ tanks. Or Baneblades either!"

LG, "That's fine, we don't have any."

Pointing to rear of the armory to a line of LR and BBs, MC is angry, "I can see them, Logan!"

LG, "Oh, thooooose tanks. We call them Wolftanks and Wolfblades. But, we don't have any leman russ or baneblade tanks, just like Roboute said we shouldn't!"

MC smacks head and sighs.

Calculating from 5 attacks assuming a charge the Relic Blade inflicts 2.78 wounds. The Frost Blade inflicts 2.67 wounds. That's MEQ's.

Now GEQ (Guard Equivalents). Relic Blade still only inflicts 2.78 wounds. While the Frost Blade inflicts 3.33 wounds.

The Relic Blade really only out performs the Frost Blade against Monsterous Creatures and/or targets with T5 or higher. Plus Frost Blades are a whole lot more cool looking and bad ass than oversized power swords and is uniquely Wolfy. So I'd prefere to keep my Frost Blades thanks, I'll leave fighting the higher Toughness targets to the Wolves with the Power Fists.

*Exterminatussocks Dietrich over the head*

Bad Dietrich! Frost Blades are far better than Relic Blades! Sure the RB gives S6, but the FB lets you get an extra A in CC. I'd rather have 5 S5 attacks than 4 S6 attacks. If you need to krump big 'uns, dat's what da Wuff Guard an Blud Clawz is fer!

No ale for a week mister! *stern face*

Who said anything about SW relic blades being two-handed swords? Two-handed axes would work just as well!

Bah it's still just an oversized power weapon and that's lame.

Nuthin beats Chainblades forged from the teeth of Ice Kraken, Frost Blades all the way!
