Master Chaplain Astador
Looking great mate! :) Although I'm not sure about the base yet, but knowing you it will turn out great! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160459-sanguinary-guards-akaranseth-p8/page/3/#findComment-1902877 Share on other sites
akaranseth
The base is pretty simple. It's a slab of greenstuff press on flat rock. I built up the 3 post around brass rods. Once dry I built up the final form and used a rock that i pressed in the greenstuff to give it's form. Once the piece was taken from the flat rock the top granular surface came with it instead of simply pressing the pattern in the GS, but eh, got the same final result so yeah! I then used a dremel to cut out the central area. Once done I used various tubing and brass rods to fill the element. Covered in photo-etc element which i deformed and tear to give the old look. Bordures of plasticard and a small plastic rod cut in small pieces to make rivets and voilà. Nothing difficult. Just have to take the time to do it. Son_of_Russ6
That... Is... AWESOME!! I would never have the bullocks to cut up a model as gorgeous as Zhufor, but thankfully you did, It looks seemless! I can't wait to see it painted! akaranseth
A little bit more done! So I did the metalics on it's legs and under the guy before fixing him on it's base now full of skulls and other bones! It's the classic coat of boltgun metal, shaded with black and highlighted with mithril. I'll come back later with glazes for nuances and inks. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0042-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0044.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0045.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0046.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0051.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160459-sanguinary-guards-akaranseth-p8/page/3/#findComment-1908305 Share on other sites
LunchBox
Mathieu...if you would, take note of what nuance colors you add (and why) for those of us who suck at metallics. Thanks! akaranseth
So most of the shadows and highlights are done on the juggernaut. Now I just need to add a few highlights here and there. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0007-2.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0008-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0009-2.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0010-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0006-1.jpg It's progressing slowly but surely! mightygoose
LU BU he is, astounding job, my only quibble, and it is more a quibble with GW than you, is that the legs on the new juggernaught model are abit thin, i mean the terminator has thicker legs... i know its too late but i imagine a juggernaught with at least beefed up front legs, like the old model in stature, would look even more awesome... akaranseth
Highlights are done. I've reworked the whole tonality of the piece as well. akaranseth
If you've visited my blog recently you are aware that my apartment building suffered a fire last thursday evening. The firemen were really quick on the scene and everyone is safe and sound. As for damages go, I am one of the lucky ones. There was no damage in our apartment except for smoke. All the material and figurines are safe and out of the place. We did not get any water damage in the apartment itself but the walls are soaked... which means that we can't go back to our appartment before the 1st of July in order for them to tear the walls down and rebuild it. Well we were hoping for a new bathroom, I guess we are getting it... So that also means that on top of all the latest comotion, we'll have to move this week or next week into a more stable location. Our landlord already has an apartement for us meanwhile but it is still a lot of time being lost. I was already getting behind schedule with my juggernaut that now I hardly see how I will be able to finish on time for Paris. This is why I have moved to plan B which was created this afternoon. So the mighty juggernaut is now a puny Eldar autarch which will be faster to paint. The juggernaut project isn't abandonned, simply postponed for Toronto! So there you go! I'll start assembling it in the next few minutes and start to paint it tomorrow. In the meantime keep painting and I'll come back to this thread as soon as work resume on the Juggernaut! akaranseth
So there's a few changes. The autarch was not too inspiring... not a space marine... So I did a small conversion and boom! http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0023.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0024-1.jpg He is not a Black Templar! akaranseth
So here is the progress. Now that mostly everything has been dealt with in regards of the appartment I've finally got some time to paint! Should get another colored background over the weekend since the firemen wrecked mine... Otherwise sorry but no detailed pics of every stages. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0026-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0027-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0028-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160459-sanguinary-guards-akaranseth-p8/page/3/#findComment-1948031 Share on other sites
akaranseth
So here are the last pictures, a little over exposed, of Captain Kramay before I leave for Paris. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0029-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0033-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0032-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0030-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0031-1.jpg I have a lot of zone to perfect and a lot of zone to paint period. teh_perfesser
btw perfesser i wasn't able to see your finished oblits could you post some pics please :)I'm painting them for Call of Chaos. Anyhow, on to criticize akaranseth's work :) It's a bit difficult to criticize the work of someone who is way out of my league in every skill, but I try to be another set of eyes. Something that might not be obvious--the right shoulder cross, bottom half of the forward cross arm, looks to be highlighted under the chain thingy when I think it should be shaded more. There is some awful pitting on that model, on the cape and right leg is most visible, that's really unfortunate, because you fixed the model's biggest problem with the headswap. We'll have to see how it turns out, there's just so much left to do to get it finished. akaranseth
So here are the pictures of my space marine. It made pre-selection at GD Paris so I'm pretty happy. Let just say that when you start a project for this contest a week and a half before and deciding to stop it at 3h30 am the day of the contest you shouldn't expect miracles. The fig isn't finished. I'll changed that base which is not really to my satisfaction (that's what happen between 2h30 and 3h30 am). I'll probably add freehand on the cloak as well. Otherwise yes the colors are a bit special so we like or we don't. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0049.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0050.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0051-1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0052.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0053.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/akaranseth/DSC_0054.jpg So it will be presented at GD Toronto.
