Here's a few things I've been working on in an attempt to reduce my lead mountain.

Some Space Wolves. I found some random bits and decided to make use of them:

Ultramarines Captain Fabian WIP; I could do with some advice on how to paint Ultramarines' armour:

Nice! Your conversions looks good, clean work! Simply but efficient.

For the Ultramarine:

-black undercoat

-a first coat with 75%ultramarine blue-25% chaos black

-a second ultramarine pur

-you put your lights with 75%ultramarine blue-25% skull white

-and you continue with more and more white

with this color sheme, your ultra are not light blue, not dark blue, they're middle blue :wallbash:

looking nice Mol, particularly like the Wolf Lord/Battle Leader

although i'm assuming a fluff loving fellow like your good self has a good reason for using what appears to be a Dark Angels shoulder pad on him

what happened, did he beat someone up and take it for a trophy? :wallbash:

Third Space Wolf, where's that chest plate from? ^_^

TDA

The Space Wolves box. It's a shame the only plastic MkVI torso has a wolf-tooth necklace. :(

Thanks! I'll take that under advisement.

where is the crimson fists captain's head from?

Captain Sicarius.

Well, pretty much. My thought was that the SW and the DA have a love-hate relationship and that he'd been awarded the little pendant after a clash of champions; the Wolves and the Angels refight the duel between their Primarchs every time they meet, and I figured a guy like this would respect the DA enough to value the pendant.

Slightly ironic that a Space Wolf has a winged sword pendant on his armour ;) But I like them, some nice sculpting on the WGBL cape.

It's also slightly ironic that you post that just after I explain why he's got it. ;) The cape has a fair bit further to go so I can integrate the head/legs into the pelt proper, but I'm pretty happy with him thus far. I like Telion's head as a Space Wolf.

Well, I can go one better than that - when I've finished fiddling around with him he'll need a home to go to, so you can have him. Sound good?

Lookin good Mol, my only suggestion is the WL /WGBL looks a little too static. The Tellion head is a good choice for the model, but maybe if you turned it a bit more to be looking over the studded pad like he's getting ready to signal a charge or something it would give the model a little more character. Right now it it looks like he's just saying "hey look I have an axe, isn't it cool?"

No problem! You'll have a reason to check this topic in future. :D I've seen your Fourth Company and I must confess I'd considered painting Fabian a little darker, but even so I'd be interested in knowing how you paint your blues.

But it is cool! :P With that said, though, I guess I can see where you're coming from. When I get a chance I'll fiddle around with the head placement to see if I can sort it out.

Ill do a quick run down, compared to most of the guys on the UM forum im an enthusiastic amateur..

I start with a black undercoat, and use enchanted blue basecoat, i only do the one coat otherwise it can get a little brighter, i use midnight blue to give the effect of shadows, on my basic troops i generally skip this, but you can tell more from my vets...i use ice blue to do basic highlights...i dont blend or mix paints...

The best 'effect' on my models is the chest eagles.

i do a full coat of fortress grey covering all the black, i then paint the inner ring of the eagle with space wolf grey, taking care to leave the recesses in the darker grey colour, the outer ring is painted white and i also touch the edges of the inner ring to 'blend' the two colours together...

Well, a slight shift away from the Ultramarines back to the Space Wolves. I'm basically using up bits, and I found a couple of useful pieces to add to the Wolves. At the moment I have the WL/WGBL and five Grey Hunters at various levels of completion. Here's the latest stuff I've added:

My friend Nick told me he thought the Lord could do with something between his legs (ahem!) and so I've added a wolf tail talisman:

This guy now has an arm:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Corner/SWolf-0008.jpg

This is a new WIP Grey Hunter. The head is taken from the Khorne Berserkers sprue, with a GS moustache (which I will expand upon further when it dries to give him a beard, also.)

A picture showing what I've done on the half-bionic head. I quite like his beard.

Another new WIP GH. Waiting for a decent outstretched right arm, I'll probably use the standard bearer's arm from the Command Squad boxed set.

Sweet sculpting work on the hair and beards! I've been working at that too lately, it's not as hard as you might think is it? In regards to the marine with the half bionic head, shouldn't he only have half a beard to go with it? ;)

Then again, you could always give the other half of his face a bionic beard, though I have no idea how that would work. ;)

  • 1 month later...

Hey once again, guys. I've continued with the Space Wolves, and I've got something in the order of ten Grey Hunters. I'm fiddling around with them, hoping to get them ready for the new Codex (when it eventually comes out) and then I'll be somewhat ahead of the curve. Fluff-wise, I've decided to go for the Great Company of Jotun Bearclaw. WD245 features an article where it mentions that Bearclaw and his forces refused to return to Fenris, citing the temporal effects of long warp travel (though the Imperial scribe writing the report suggests that he thinks something more untoward may be the cause.) I'm going to go for a darker grey for them, somewhat akin to the older pre-heresy style Space Wolves. I'm likely going to use Midian's Relictors tutorial to get the sort of grey I want.

-> It was my birthday on Tuesday (the 31st) and I got a bunch of Legion of the Damned models from my brother. Waaay too many of the old Devastators, but I've got about twenty-six models - including a Sergeant Centurius figure, which I was quite chuffed with, so I'll eventually be getting around to them. Here are a few snaps I managed to upload before I lost light today:

Here's Centurius in his glory:

My first LOTD squad, WIP:

I've been planning on recreating this piece of artwork, only having a Sword Bearer instead of a Blood Angel:

And the poor Sword Bearer waiting to be rescued by the Legion:

that sgt centurius is pricelss!

Yeah, luckily I know it's not a recast because mine was still in a (very tatty) second edition blisterpack. I'm not intending tinker with the model too much, though I am going to give him a backpack with the second edition Legion banner (the skeleton with the power armoured shoulderpad in flames).

Alas, Poor Yorick. How many points do they end up total?

How long's a piece of string? I did a quick estimation from the Codex of two ten-man Legion squads led by Tigurius (representing Centurius) - came out to about 900 points, perhaps a little more. They'd really only be used in Apocalypse, I figure, as divine intervention dropping in from the ether.
