WIP Crusaders

Just a few touch ups, and highlighting to go. I would have finished but my detail brush failed. I also have an Emperors Champ at the same stage, but the pics of that weren't that great. Hopefully I'll get some better ones soon.

Enjoy.

Thanks guys, the white on the tabbard is graveyard earth, usually two coats. Then desert yellow, usually two coats. then bleached bone, and finally as many thin coats of white till your happy. The pauldrons are codex grey over the black undercoat, followed by several thin coats of white.

I love the crispness of your white and also the chain wrapped around the second to the right marine's chest. Green stuff?

I wish my GS skills were that good. It's a Bezerker torso. I had half of a box of these given to me, so I cut off the Khorne symbols and replaced them with BT shields and purity seals from the upgrade sprue, as well as imperial icons from my bits box. I also modified a few of the back packs. I'll try to post a pic of the rest that I converted today.

Very nice Ryld, I think they look really good. Did you paint their eyes scorpion green? If so thats the same color I've done my entire force in except for the chaplins.

The eyes are done in scorpion green ( which is called putrid green on my pot, but anyways) with a green ink wash. I prefer these to red, which is how I do them on my Ultramarine terminators as well.

Here are some pics of my BT conversions from chaos equipment. A few more have the converted backpacks, and are scattered throughout my 6 Crusader squads.

Here are two more Templars that are nearly done. Just the highlights and the purity seals to go. These two won't be added to my ranks however. Two friends of mine have given me a marine out or their armies (Imperial Fists and a DIY army) and I am finally reciprocating. I thought I'd get in some bolter painting practise at their expense. ^_^

Anyway, here are the two marines. C&C welcome.

The friend that is getting the marine on the left is a Braveheart fan, and has Scottish blood, so hence the blue cross on the face.

Also, I'm having trouble with my highlight brush. I'm using a Haydn 700 series (size 000) and the bristles just turn to custard after a few uses. Are the GW brushes any good? Can any one recommend a good detail brush, or brand of brush? Thanks

Winsor & Newton series 7 brushes are pricey, but excellent quality IMO. I got the 'miniature' size 0 with the shorter bristles and it is an all around great brush. I suggest that or a miniature size 00 for highlighting. I can't comment on the standard series 7 sizes but I'm sure they're good quality as well.

Wow! Those look great! I like the warpaint. I may have to use some of that on a few of my units. Did you just water down the color you used for it?

Cheers. I did water down the colours, it makes it easier to apply and doesn't fill all of the detail in.

I'll have to have a hunt around and see if there are any local stockists. Thanks for the help.

Been a bit busy lately, but did find the time to convert up a company standard bearer from an unwanted veteran. Still a few things to do, like the backpack, the gem on the belt and I think the chainsword could do with a thin black wash. And I'm not really sure on what I'm going to do with the banner. I'm real bad at freehand, so I thought maybe a red banner with a white Templar cross, and some text around that. I'll also add some BT icons from my bits box, like the lantern and a few purity seals I guess.

Anyway, here is a pic of the standard bearer.
