Lord Aaron
Hi. I will me moving to South Korea soon as an English teacher. I'll be staying in Kun-san (there is an Air Force base there). Anybody know if there are any gaming stores or groups that do 40K there? P.S. thanks for having me on B&C! ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162848-south-korea/ Share on other sites
CastratedCow
The only place I know of that does anything Warhammer-related is in Seoul at a place called Orctown. Check it out the main page here or this other page here. I haven't been there myself yet; I got turned on to it by some dude on www.the-waaagh.com. I haven't heard anything about Kunsan. Did you do your homework on your school? There's alot ALOT ALOT of English teachers who get screwed over here by signing up with a shady school. If you're working for a public school, more than likely you'll be okay. If, on the other hand, you're working for a hagwon, watch out. Make sure you're getting everything in your contract. Make sure the correct deductions are being made from your paycheck, and make sure those deductions are being used to pay for the things they're supposed to pay for (health insurance, pension, taxes). Don't be afraid to tell your boss "No" if he asks you to do anything that isn't in your contract. I don't mean to scare you, but you do need to wary of what your employer is doing. Despite education being touted as so important to Korea, they sure as hell don't regulate the industry very well. Anyway, good luck, and maybe I'll see you for some 40k goodness! Gavotte
I used to live in Korea. Wonderful place. Anyways, there're weekly events in Osan and Yongsan bases where a hobby shop of sorts (has 40k, role play, Magic the gathering) opens up and has tournaments. The one in Yongsan opens every Saturday at the Moyer Recreation center, but I'm not too sure about the one in Osan. Also, found a yahoogroup you might be interested in. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Korea4...group&slk=1 They also meet at the moyer rec, I think. Allerka
I played at Yongsan when I was there (though the guy that ran the store was retiring the same year I left, '06, so I dunno if it's still around). Someone might still be running something there. I also played with an English teacher in my area (up north by Uijongbu), but he's long since moved back home. There was also a quarterly/semi-annual tournament being run at Camp Humphries, though I know the main dude for that group also long since left. They had a TON of decent terrain and it was pretty popular, so I'm sure someone else picked up the reigns on that as well. Most of the stuff you'll find is gonna be on US military bases, when I was there the market among the actual Korean populace was almost non-existent. Lord Aaron
Hey, thanks for the help guys. I'll look into those. Oh, I did do my research, and I insisted on working in a public school. I've heard of orctown before, but I'm not sure how easy it will be for me to get there. I figured most of the 40K would be with the military, that's why I was looking forward to working in Kunsan, but somehow I wound up in Jinan instead. Lord Aaron
Hello again. Thanks for the help about Kun-san, sorry I never made it over there for a game. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knew of any gaming stores or groups in Busan (or Pusan)? There's a possibility that I may wind up over there sometime next year and I'm looking for a place to play some 40K. Terminal Maxocity
Just in case anyone was still wondering, Orctown is still the only place in Korea that sells Games Workshop stuff. It is usually packed with people from all over the globe. The owner speaks English quite well and is friendly. There was a short-lived group at Humphreys and I don't know about any of the other places. gang_chong
Hi, I'm from Korea and usually play in Seoul area. AFAIK, Seoul has two main place to play 40k; Orctown" and "Mad For Miniature". I heard there are more groups in Seoul but I have no info. Anyway, Orctown is most well-known place and is also only one shop you can buy GW product offline in Korea. They moved to near Gangnam area few years ago. "Mad for Miniature" is placed at near Children's Grand Park, Seoul. They have bigger space than Orctown does. Daegu and Busan also have gaming groups. Currently 30k is very active in Daegu group, and Busan group plays 40k actively as well. Hope this helped you to find a place to game in Korea :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162848-south-korea/#findComment-4570172 Share on other sites
VulkansDynasty
Hey, I moved here to Seoul back in September, and actually live pretty close to Orktown. Now that I'm mostly done unpacking, If anyone in Korea wants to get a game in, get together for painting tips and tricks and whatnot, or just hang out and hobby let me know. When summer rolls around I have plenty of space to play at my house as well (and my own table). I mostly play 40K, but I do own two large AoS armies (just never played). gang_chong 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162848-south-korea/#findComment-4570267 Share on other sites

VulkansDynasty
Sure! I generally have the weekends free or we can always work something out. Hit me up and we'll get a game in. I haven't been able to play in about a year due to life and moving back here to Korea.
