PIP Space Wolf Pack Leader

Recommended Posts

well after a while twiddling my thumbs waiting for greenstuff to dry and sculpting mutton chops on random heads i decided to get the paints out... so without further delay heres a w.i.p shot of my pack leader

I would love to hear your opinions on it as it stands, particularly the scratches on the leg armou (the only armour sections pretty muche done) because i want all the wolves to have a degree of battle damage on their armour...

anyhoo, thats all from me for today,

Very nice paintwork, and kudos to your for using some old Long Fang legs if I'm not mistaken. The mini looks pretty good, but I think the waist is a little too thin above the wolf guard belt. Don't get me wrong it doesn't ruin the figure, but it does niggle me a bit. The scratches on the greaves and knee pads look pretty effective, nicely done :)

yeah the waist is deceptive because the belt has a holster and some pouches either side so it makes it look wider, when its finished it should be more obvious that the waist is in proportion... and thanks for the quick response

heres an update... very nearly finished (skull, handle of hammer and spikes... and a grenade)

not sure about the belt... doesn't fit with the rest of the model but i'll look at that....

and i've decided to got with Bjorn Stormwolf's great company, hence the thunderwolf symbol on his shoulder pad... thought it might go some way to explaining the redonculous amounts of thunder hmmers that seem to have found their way into my list...

again c+c much appreciated :)

Nicely painted. The face is very well done indeed.

thnaks, i can't take all the credit though, it was based on the tutorial in the previous white dwarf...

i think so far its definately the best model i've painted

I have to say that now it's closer to completion the waist does look a lot better, and I think that the belt works quite well with it, adds some detail to the otherwise spartan chest area. I know exactly which tut you're talking bout for the face (I shamlessly used it to improve my flesh work) and I think you've definately achieved a great flesh tone using it :)

i found that rather than adding a straight white highlight it looked better using a 50/50 bleached bone-white mix.. and i added a thinned down red glaze around the cheek and nose to try and make it look like the weather was actually cold... not sure it comes across that well on the pics but i think it added a bit so i'm pleased

Sorry for the double post guys...

i think the gold needs some scrathces/weathering to tie it in with the rest of the model and i'm testing different ways so eventually it'll get done...and someone in the space wolf section suggested gems in the eyes of the back pack so i might well look into that...

anyhoo, this'll be the final W.I.P update cos theres almost nothing left to do... just some spikes to finish and the little skulls on the bottom of the legs so enjoy

tadaa... i'm sure i'll find something i've forgotten to paint... always seems to be the way with me :)

oh yeah, i almost forgot... i wanna add some snow to the model itself to help it fit in with the base a bit more so i'm trying out that.. anyone with any suggestions or tips on that please post...

I do like this mini - great pose and some of the paintwork i.e the axe and gems is superb. But I can't help thinking it still needs a little extreme hightlight to give the armour a bit more definition. If you have laquered this already then don't bother - I would be more than happy to have this figure in my collection as it is but if you haven't then maybe give it a shot. You brush control looks like that would be easy enough for you do

If it's the light then ignore all I've said and have my last ale as my penance

you do realise i might lie just to get your ale... but no its not been over highlighted cos i wanted a more toned down and sublte look with my wolves... i may well add a couple of thinned down washes of black/brown to the recesses to get the armour to pop a bit more but it won't be too much more than it is now.

I agree with nearly all that he said. I don't mind the idea of uses washes and keeping the armor darker, but this is a really nice model and I'd like to see you bring out a little more detail on the armor.

I really like the hammer. The detail is very nice and I like the subtle damage to the head. Very sharp.
