Legio Cybernetica Cohort Devoveo

I've finally settled on a color scheme:

I have 4 of units done, with 2 Dreadnoughts and a "Belial" Techmarine to go. They're hitting the tournament scene in just 9 days, so the crunch is on. The last few pieces I needed to finish the army just arrived today, so it's the push to the finish!

I've also ordered custom dice:

Hopefully I'll at the least wander off with best painted...

More pics of completed units to follow when I can pry enough time away from my brushes to aim the camera.

C&C welcome!

Wow...50+ views and not a single comment. Hopefully a larger view of the force will help.

I've not seen those knights in a long time, its a cool idea how you have decided to use them.

Where did you order the dice from? I would love to get my hands on some of them.

The Knights were the most difficult thing to find, with that number of old Ork Power Klaws coming in at a close second.

The dice were ordered from Chessex. You can get just about anything put on a die. Check out the details at www.chessex.com.

Don't be afraid to say something...I'm beginning to fear the army is neither good nor bad, but the dreaded boring.

Good god no! This army is nothing short of fantastic. I'm normally not one to critique on painting/modeling, but I'm not about to sit around and let you come to that conclusion. My only excuse for the lack of response would be that this section doesn't see a lot of activity, which is a shame because your models are grand. It's a great, abstract idea (I respect that), and it's really well executed to boot! I'm seriously considering maybe even making few of my own, which should be testament enough to how superb they are.

Don't worry mate. You shouldn't need people to tell you those are awesome, because they are awesome. No questions asked.

Cheers,

Shunch

PS - required to ask what the dreads are made out of. They look...esoteric (a good thing).

They're made out of lead ;)

Those are the original RT era Dreadnoughts, thus giving them their esoteric look. They fit the overall feel of the army better than the current boxier models.

They definitely look...different, that's for sure. How do they stack up against normal dreads, size-wise? As for weaponry, what do you count them as having?

Also, be sure to tell us how they do in the tournie...even as far as the actual games go, Deathwing shouldn't perform too badly!

The dreadnoughts are armed with the original lascannon and missile launcher, and are a fair bit smaller than the current dreadnoughts.

Size comparison Robot vs Terminator:

The scenic resin bases give them that touch more height to be as tall as a terminator.

Wow, awesome. Those Robot models are very cool, as are the Dreadnoughts (I actually own one of those, it has a plasma cannon and dreadnought close combat weapon). Naturally, your Tech Adept is stunning as well!

Oh yeah, you most definitely have to drill the muzzles! On all of them! Please!

Otherwise, good work. :)

I'm a little envious, indeed. Save for the dreads, those look goofy.

Long time away, thanks everyone for your comments.

Interesting.. They are a nice peice of conversion work. Have you got any in action shots?

These pics are courtesy of Big_Willie over at legiominimus.blogspot.com

Big_Willie was my third opponent at the tournament at the start of April, and he snapped some pics of our game (he was also playing a Deathwing):

I do concede the original dreads, like most models from that era, have a "cartoony" look to them. However, their size and shape better fit the feel of the robot army, and add to the "what the heck is that" factor, since many players don't know what they are.

Muzzle-drilling point noted. If I manage to get time, I certainly will. Our club is running an all-superheavy battle table at Games Day Toronto, and I have two Armorcast Reavers to get painted up for it (go Legio Tempestus!) Excitingly, I'm also going to have my Legio Cybernetica on display in the Armies on Parade, and will be at the display between noon and 1 to discuss it. So, if you happen to be going to GD Toronto, here's your chance to see my pretty robots up close :)

How did you make the super cool Robots?

The robots are a combination of several models. The main body and lower legs are the Epic plastic Knight Paladin, with the upper legs coming from Tau Stealthsuits. The Power Fists are old 2nd Ed Ork Power Klaws, and the shoulders are simply Space Marine shoulderpads. The remainder of the parts, apart from the weapons, are scratchbuilt.

Well...I think you've wrapped up the Best Painted! And Best Converted (if that exists) and most other awards. Good luck

I didn't actually place at the Conflict I was getting them ready for (there were a lot of peculiarities in scoring at that event), but later in the month we had our local Annual Championship, and I scored Best Army (combination Painted + Composition) for it, so that was gratifying.

I love the TH/SS versions, those shields are incredible.

The shields are two pieces of plasticard, with the upper sheet given rivets with a punch, as detailed on Bell of Lost Souls ages ago. The Cog and Servo-skull are from the rear of a Baneblade.

A long while back I saw a fellow named Doctor Thunder on Bartertown who had made a very similar conversion, and was trying to sell the army on a commission basis. He'd gotten all the parts, but then for some reason didn't want to make the army. I decided I liked his basic design of Tau Stealth Suit legs with the Knight Paladin body, but added the knight lower legs and made my own arms, where he'd used Terminator arms.
