Lo and behold, for I have returned yet again :-D

Hey Guys!

Again a very long break from anything productive. Exams and tons of work killing time and energy for painting. However, managed to finish two little beauties, the first of which I'll present below.

This Deathwing Terminator was a pleasure to paint. Tried out a tad bit darker bone color, to get the contrasts of the highlights to show up more. I think he ended up being quite okay, considering I'm a bit rusty in the painting-proficiency these days.

Enjoy!

@MosesGunn - thanks a bunch man, glad you like them :-)

Alright chaps, here he is: The meanest, angriest and bad-ass Interrogator Chaplain - Asmodai :-) Finally finished. The sculpt is fantastic, but oh boy Finecast is a miserable piece of crap to work with! So may flaws that I lost count - some of which you couldn't correct without scraping off some of the very brittle detail.

Not a pleasure to work with no Sir'e!

Enjoy - over and out :-)

How'd you do the robes on this guy? I've been trying different colors and can't seem to get a nice look like this. These models are all fantastic btw.

Thanks Buddy!

I start out from a black undercoat, then do a Khemri Brown basecoat over several layers, and from there just begin to mix in Ushabti Bone, working my way up to pure ushabti bone. The shades are thinned washes of Agrax Earthshade and seraphim sepia. I begin to highligt it from Screaming skull, adding in white scar over a few mixes until i get the effect I desire. Often less white on a robe than on a DeathWing Terminator armor.

Cheers!

Goodmorning Chaps,

Whilst painting in full speed on a Space Wolf, I finished my base for the Ultramarine Suzerain. So here he is in all his show-off-amour-glory.

It's interesting to shift from the new GW plastic sets, which are fantastic, to Forgeworld resin, which is also fantastic, but, dare I say it, are loosing the battle of the best quality sculpts to plastic!

Hello Chaps,

Hope you're enjoying the weekend. I know I am - and I finished this little beauty last night. It was a pleasure to paint, and the myriad of details, different textures and objects made it a fantastic project. Very pleased with the outcome.

Enjoy my version of Ulrik the Slayer :-)

I don't think I have really enjoyed looking at a Space Wolf mini until now. That's over 30 years of looking, well done. Really.

Thanks for sharing

Wow, that is quite a deal, thank you very much Stobz! The model is a fantastic sculpt :-)

Nice man. Love the variety of models and the solid brush control! That FW Ultra model is my favorite.

BSS

Thanks a lot for your comments Buddy, glad you like the Ultras - they come out nice :-)

Reaaally damn cool.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

Thanks a lot for the kind comments Guys! :-) Much appreciated.

Good evening Chaps.

I must say I'm in love with the new Deathwatch Space Marines! They are wonderful in their detail and offer so much to a painter. Here's my first of the batch :-) I'm heavily inspired by Paul Norton (check him out on Instagram or Facebook) and his style of painting, which is some of the very best I've ever seen.

Excellent work, as per usual. Those highlights are so crisp. I think I'm going to cry. cry.gif

Do it Dos' they really are crisp laugh.png

Hahaha, yeah, crisp as they might be, I'm actually striving to make the next batch of highlights much more crisp :-D

Thanks guys, glad you like him! The new plastic figures are truly a blast to paint :-)

More crisp? Do you want us to cut our eyeballs looking at them? ohmy.png

Hahaha, no, but wearing googles might be a good thing :-D

But really, I must say that some of the highlights on the Deathwatch mini above are not up to my best especially on some parts of the armor and the silver.

Beautiful work, Vad. thumbsup.gif

Thanks a lot Olis, glad you stopped by :-)

What colours are you using for the blues on the Invictus Suzerain from August? It's a really interesting tone, especially with the bronze/brass trim (and if you could share your recipe for that too I'd be grateful).

I've been unsure about those models myself, having only seen them on the Forge World website, but you have convinced me that they look stunning. Great work.

The basing on Ulric and the Deathwatch Marine are fantastic, the tone really helps set the model and they are interesting enough to not be boring but not so busy as to detract from the model itself.

Hey Gothical,

Thanks a lot, glad you like my work.

Here's the recipes you asked for :-)

The Gold recipe:

- Undercoat Chaos Black

- Basecoat 2 layers of Scorched Brown

- Layer 1:1 Scorched Brown & Gehenna's Gold (1-2 thinned layers)

- Layer Gehenna's Gold in 2-3 thinned layers

- Shade recesses with 1:1 Scorched Brown & Chaos Black (thinned down to a wash - do a couple of coats rather than one heavy - and ONLY in the recesses!)

- Shade with a sepia shade, such as Gryphonne Sepia

- Retouch as necessary with Gehenna's Gold

- Glaze with thinned Leviathan Purple and Thraka Green on select areas

- Highlight with 1:1 Gehenna's Gold & Runefang Steel

- Final highlight of pure Runefang Steel on the rivets and on the most prominent edges & corners

The Blue Armor recipe

- Undercoat Chaos Black

- Basecoat two layers of Regal Blue

- Layer on 2-3 layers of Mordian Blue

- Highlight with Ultramarines Blue

- Highlight with 1:1 Ultramarines Blue & Space Wolves Grey

- Final highlight of pure Space Wolves Grey on the most prominent edges and corners/rivets.

Hey Gothical,

Thanks a lot, glad you like my work.

Here's the recipes you asked for :-)

Thank you very much. It is always interesting to hear excellent painters' methods of painting, I would never have thought of using purple and green to glaze the gold areas. You say "select areas", how do you decide which bits to tone? My previous experience with glazing has been an all-over glaze to tie layers together, so I can't quite picture it. I think I can pick out some green in the picture (unless my eyes deceive me), such as on the inner edges of the shield corners, so are you using it as almost a form of subtle shading on non-recessed parts?

I'll have to ponder how to shift your blue recipe across to the "new" paint range, and hope I can keep the richness of tone with the slightly muted look. In many ways I do miss the old range for its simplicity, even if it sometimes led to a lot of mixing.

I find it interesting that you use no shades/washes on the armour. One method of painting I've seen quite a lot lately is to paint a solid basecoat over your undercoat, even into the recesses, then hit it with an all-over wash to add the shading before moving on to the layering. In this case, I assume you're just incredibly careful with the basecoat to leave the black undercoat showing in the deepest recesses and work up from there?

Gothical: To have the same paints (just under a different name), I'd suggest you check out the Coat d'Arms and Vallejo Opaque ranges. More specifically, GW Regal Blue is CDA Royal Blue, GW Mordian Blue is Vallejo Game Extra Opaque Heavy Blue, GW Ultramarine Blue is CDA Marine Blue, and GW Space Wolves Grey is CDA Lupin Grey. I personally use Hasslefree Minis (who are based in the UK) to get my CDA paints and get my Vallejo ones on eBay but there are countless other suppliers so look around and see what suits you best. :tu:
