Templars in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace

Recommended Posts

Ok, just so the mods don't move me: I don't plan on actually playing BFG...just collecting :)

Alright my brethren, I really want to get some BFG models, enough to represent a crusading fleet...but I don't really know what this would consist of! I've never played BFG, and there are no players near me, so I don't really know what is an appropriate size fleet for say...400 Crusaders.

Here's my real fluff question: in the days before the Heresy, what did Marines travel in? Are Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers that old? Or would they have used the old style Grand Cruisers and Battleships (the Chaos models)? I'm thinking I need maybe...1 Battlebarge and 2 Cruisers, and a few support craft to represent a crusade fleet, and maybe one of the new Adeptus Mechanicus ships to represent a Forge Ship? So, for the fluff-masters, and people who play BFG...what is an appropriate crusade fleet?

thanks!

If you want to play BFG... go for an Armageddon Fleet list. It allows you to use Space Marine vessels as well as imperial navy vessels. This would give you a plethora of different capital ships that you could model at will. As well as others to represent things like forgeships and training or recruit ships.

I personally own about 1500pts of space marine fleet. A few pointers, All space marine escorts are awesome... use them. The strike cruiser is also a good place to start, usually marine players take 4 to 6 of them in a fleet.

Anyhow.

As for fleet composition, BT crusade would really depend on the size of the crusade. A large crusader would have a battle barge all to its own, but remember a single strike cruiser (that can carry a full company) could also be enough. Fluffwise, it can take a single space marine escort arriving in a system (the tiny ships) to force an enemy or rebelling system to surrender.

To put it into perspective (pointswise) 3 escorts to a strike cruiser and 3 strike cruisers to a battle barge.

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Thanks Iago! That actually does help. So..BFG wishlist: 2 Strike Cruisers, 6 Escort Craft (a few of each I guess) and a Adeptus Mechanicus ship pretending to be a Forge Ship. I only own about 100 marines, but I'm working towards more. There isnt anybody around to play BFG with, I just want my Crusade's fleet for some reason, I guess because I like fluff.

Exactly. A few BFG ships aren't too expensive, and they look like good models. Plus...the Templars are a crusading chapter, they have all the fleets, and I like that about them. Is it even geekier than playing 40k? Yeah...but I still want to have their ships on my gaming shelf next to my 40k stuff.

Excorts tend to operate best in pairs for torpedo ships and threes for anything else. I reccommend three of the Novas and three of the Gunboats, and a pair of Strike Cruisers as a good place to start. Gives you some good offensive firepower, a couple of tough light cruisers, and some ordnance killing thunderhawks to protect your fleet.

Its ok man, I have a fleet for my craftworld and a fleet for my Great Company.... and I havent had a game of BFG in two years.
