The Argent Blades Blog: Updated 05/05/09

Well it's been quite a while since I dabbled in 40k and since I've got some time on my hands lately, I figured I'd start a new Space Marine force. I've named the Chapter the Argent Blades. Still working out the fluff but basically they are similar to Black Templars. However where BTs are religious fanatics that hunt down psykers and xenos, the Argent Blades are warrior-scholars who use psykers to hunt down Chaos cultists and daemons. Anyway, we'll get to that later.

The color scheme:

Fairly simple really, but I always wanted to do a bone type color scheme.

The Chapter Badge:

I don't have a picture of it at the moment but just envision the Dark Angels symbol, remove the wings, and replace them with the Iron Halo badge. So it's a sword in a sunburst basically. Again just keeping it simple in design. I plan to use a bunch of the Dark Angel shoulder pads and just model the iron halo on with greenstuff.

The Models:

Just a few WIPs.

The Scout Sergeant is mostly done. I used a power fist from one of the old metal sergeants as they're smaller than the current plastics. I won't always use it in game but it looks cool either way. The loincloth needs some touching up I think.

Next we have a Tactical Sergeant. The Sergeant needs some purity seals and while I like the mini-shield I think I'm gonna replace it with a power fist. Then again I could always replace the right arm with a power fist and remodel his bolter to be hanging from a sling.

Lastly we have the character model. He still needs a lot of work as you can tell from the fact that he's held together with stickytac. I started off with the intention of modeling him as a Captain, but then as I was converting him I came up with the fluff and so he'll probably turn into a Librarian. That's some goofy daemon he's standing on made from an Orc's head, Beastman's horns, two arms from the Chaos mutation sprue, and the bulked up body of a VC ghoul.

Anyway that's all I have so far. More to come soon!

All of these are wonderful. Great posing on the scout sergeant.

I also really like the librarian. My only criticism on him would be to trim down the size of the neck guard just a hair. It's just a tiny bit too tall right now.

What kit is his blade from?

your conversions are spectacular. I seem unable to get things to turn out how I want them to when converting. If you have any good tips for body repositioning, and green stuff use I would love to hear them. But your work looks great, and I look forward to painted pics.

Just got in from work and have to be back in 7 hours so only a small update tonight. I didn't have time to do any sculpting, just hacking, gluing, and some blue tac. So here we have 2 more scouts and I replaced the Sergeant's left arm with a power fist. His old arm will be transplanted on a combat squad leader for one of Tactical units.

Enjoy! And as always c&c are most welcome!

Well for the most part the Scout Squad is done. Just need the bases and maybe the odd accessory.

@DavidKits:

You asked about the shield....basically all I did was take one of the small shields from the Bretonnian Knights sprue and glued it to his forearm. Used a file to alter the edges a bit. Here's the arm detached from the Sergeant.

Also I put together a quick Tactical marine so I can try out my paint scheme sometime this week.

Yeah that loincloth is crap.

Still no paint. Fact is I've been so long away from the hobby that well...all my paint has gone bad. A whole set each of Citadel and Vallejo paints gone to crap. :P Seriously I'm ashamed of myself.

Anyway I had a couple hours to kill before I went to bed so I knocked together another Tactical Sergeant. This time he's got a power/close combat weapon and a combi-flamer. To make the gun I simply used a combi-melta from the Commander sprue and glued the igniter from a flamer to it. He still needs greenstuff at the joints and hand as well as some plasticard to make a sling for the gun. Then just a purity seal here and there and he's all done.

Next up I'll probably throw a couple tactical marines together as well as starting some assault marines.

Minor Update:

Finished the greenstuff work on the Sergeant. Also put together another Tactical marine. This one has a full tabard. The head is from the Bretonnian Knight sprue and I added a bionic eye just to 40k him up a bit.

Next I put together 5 assault marines. Used various parts from here and there and repositioned some of the arms. Subtle but it works I think.

Thanks for the responses so far guys!

Well as requested I've finally started painting. Most of the models aren't done in more than their armor base coats so far. However, I have a tendency to always finish my "character" models first and thus the Sergeant is the most far along. The armor is still in need of it's highlighting, one of a Bleached Bone/Skull White mix and the other of pure Skull White, but at least you can get an idea of what it will look like. I posted the layers used so far in the photo but credit where it's due I'm simply following TYRA_NID's Deathwing Armor Tutorial. So far it's working nicely.

Anyway more to come soon! Keep the comments coming folks. Helps keep me focused. :P

If I didn't have a thing about having helmets on all my marines I'd so steal the idea on the left. Very cool work :yuck:
