Should have the Fortress finished and pics up by the end of the week, here's a little update to keep you going....

Textured spray was great stuff, solvent free too so if you need to spray directly onto poly there aint a problem, just dusted it over the fortress as I didnt want to obscure the details and I sort of liked the occasional roughness poking through as it gives the stonework a little age and character, the spray is tan btw, the fortress will be grey..

Nothing in the city sets was the right scale for the large statues in the arches so I had a little trawl on ebay and picked up this little fella, just the right size!

After taking a mold of him I cast 8 and got to work with a little milliput, kept things basic (had to, never sculpted before!) End result is something more in keeping with the 40k 'verse and along the same lines as the statues on the FW fortress

Sadly I had to carve his jolly little face out of the copies, it just wasnt creating the right atmosphere ;D

Welcome to the golden spires and gates of Fortress Bulldog! Garrisoned by the Crimson Ultrawings and Titan Battelgroup Ragnarok the Fortress defends one of the most prolific of the Emperors Forges!

Total cost of materials around 30 quid...not bad!

Health and safety demands that there are safety barriers on the walkways, last thing you need while a 100 foot killing machine is bearing down on you is a claim from some clumsy marine who just tripped and took a tumble over the edge!

The inside of the Fortress (I will detail the inside of the gate later)

The Crimson Ultrawings push forward from the protective walls on their way to a night on the town, erm, I mean to fight the enemies of the Emperor..

I am not sure what I am more impressed with. The fortress.. or the armoury behind it. I assume you are in the military? I mean, that .50 sniper riffle in the back (??)(a Barrett?) is a little big to use when just protecting your home, I think? :)

But er.. yeah.. Very impressive so far!

wow can you write a step by step on how you painted the walls and the spires/doors?

do you have a mahussive job to fund your collection or everything a sci-fi person could want including guns, crossbows and predator figures!!

... or do you just live in a rich person's basement

Pretty sure those are airsoft.

A couple of them are replica/toys as they have red tips, a lot of airsoft and pellet rifles that look very spot on with the real versions. The barrett looks a bit on the small side particuarly the scope.

(they have some pretty strict gun laws in the UK, which would probably prohibit the M14 and M-60 on the shelf as well the various submachienguns, additionally a weapon collector usually doesn't keep stored weapons out in the open air simply because of the extra cleaning and potential fouling.)

On topic it looks great and very nicely done for the low project cost, awesome work.

WHy can;t you have an M14 in the UK? I might need to reconsider buying that SOCOMII then!

Correct Paulson, they are airsoft (apart from the xbows, compounds and air rifles of course)! I find shooting your mates has a limited lifespan of fun if real weapons are used ;)

The M82 is full size all metal, weighs in at 13KG just like the real steel, it's not an M14 it's the L96 British sniper, sadly my collecting days ended when it became illegal to import from abroad, I sure as hell aint spending the crazy money UK retailers charge!

Marshal, I havent checked up on the laws recently but used to be the fact you cannot own an automatic weapon, ironically a bolt action anti-tank rifle would be fine :)

Let's not get into the whole gun laws thing or I may just get on my soap box and have a good rant, the UK is a place where it's more difficult to buy an airsoft toy than buy a real gun, apparantly when the people in charge aint busy using taxpayers money to clean their moats out they know better :P :o :( ;)

Anyhow, back on subject!

Will try and stick a tutorial up but painting is basic, the fortress was done in one morning using the airbrush and tamiya colours, basically working up from black using various greys. I needed to get the table clear for other projects so will, hopefully, come back to this soon to add extra weathering/battle damage

The turrets are 1/18 scale Ultimate soldier quad .50 cals, little extra stuff added to 40k 'em up. You can pick them up cheaply from ebay, right time and place as little as 5 quid each!

It's not too hard to get yourself a defence from the VCRA to go out and buy more airsoft guns. Just register as a re-enactor or go down to your local airsoft site a few times and register through them, then you have a defence to buy airsoft guns from the UK or import (the next two i'm buying are coming in from Hong Kong)

But on topic, I want that fortress so badly... It looks better than the forgeworld version...

I love the idea of using Quad M2 Turrets for Autocannon Turrets... Although how did you hide the seat and controls on them?

I think this topic comes under the category "Epic Win"...
