My first 40k Amry: Black Templar's Viniculus Crusade

As the title reads, I'm going for a Viniculus Themed Black Templar Army. For those unfamiliar with the various C:BT Crusades, Viniculus takes place on a volcanic planet during the Black Templar's extermination of ruinous powers' daemons.

 

This is my first legitimate attempt at making a WH40K. When I was about 14 I bought a small ork battle force and dipped them in green paint. The result was a contingent of murky green globs. Then when I was 17 I bought a Tau Firewarrior squad and got as far as putting black primer onto them. I have a lot to learn in terms of painting/converting, but I hope my first project is ambitious enough that with enough time and effort the end result will be something worthy of the name Black Templars.

 

I've never actually played the table top, but I've read almost every Space Marine, Tau, SoB, IG book on the market as well as the entire Horus Heresy Series. I'm an avid DoW:II player and loved DoW:I.

In summary, I've always orbited around the Warhammer 40k universe, but up until now I have not broken into the thing that started it all, the tabletop.

 

With that said, I'd like to point out a couple of things I'm aiming for in making this army. Firstly, I love the idea of heavy armor in all respects, therefore I've Incorporated as much Mrk.IIX armor as I possibly could. I've also given each initiate wielding any type of CCW a larger terminator shoulder pad on that side, as if to signify the muscles on that side are more developed. Imagine a somewhat misshapen space marine, forged in both his undying hate for his enemy and his unyielding loyalty to the Emperor of Mankind.

 

Each unit is based on a Lava themed base of my own design. I used Paper clay for the rocking and Green-stuff for the lava. My end result was a little less than I had aimed for, but it was the very first thing I've ever actually painted, so I was given some solace through that fact.

I love the dynamic look the base gives to the Emperor's Champion.

Just looks like he's commanding the initiates to charge. And the cape looks great IMO.

That's what I was going for, I wanted it to drape off of the cliff on one side. As if a gust of wind had caught it's left side and was blowing it to the right, off of the cliff face. I was then going to do some "tearing" to the end draping off as if it was getting too close to the lava and starting to burn, so it will look somewhat "wispy".
