My own multi-part Sisters of Battle kit

Recommended Posts

Moving on quickly I see. And I only just restarted my suit. God I am slow.

I love how the rhinos are coming out. I'll personally be theming my rhinos around different aspects of Saint Mina. Probably one covered in the butched corpses of heretics, and another covered in artistically arranged bones, like the Sedlec Ossuary. Feel free to steal, because I'm probably going to have to steal that idea for the old immolator hatch.

Chapter House does a rhino front that might interest you; http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/com...p;category_id=4 Something about the design speaks to me of Sisters of Battle.

@ Vulcan:

Thanks brother. The heavy flamers are from the sentinal kit, with the back part of the gun cut and another segment further cut in for the hand to grip.

@ Trygon:

Where are you finding fluff on St Mina? I've searched but had limited success with that :/

As for the Chapter House rhino armour? I'll probably be ordering a set eventually.

With that as a teaser note, my next resin casted kit will be in production soon... and yes, it is entirely scratch built, and carefully avoids existing GW parts or trademarks. Should be finishing up on that tonight or tomorrow and show the goods in the next few days!

From Matriaches of the Sisterhood

Saint Mina - Founder of the Order of the Bloody Rose

Mina was known as a dark and brooding sister, quick to anger and deadly in combat. The Order of the Bloody Rose was not formally created until two and a half millennia after the founding of the first four orders, and by this time Mina was long dead. Her Order had existed as a small group of Sisters who provided a bodyguard for the Abbess of the Adepta Sororitas, and it was from this group that the new Order was formed.

Mina was martyred at the hands of a sanguinary cult, the agents of which are said to have ambushed her at prayer in a small shrine on Hydraphur. None of her sisters were present, but it was said that when they came upon her body the entire shrine was covered in the blood of her assailants, a score of which lay dead around her own blood drenched form.

The symbol of Saint Mina is a red rose, with prominent thorns, representing her nature. Behind the rose are crossed two knife blades dripping in blood, symbolic of the circumstances of her martyrdom.

Thanks, Trygon :)

@ Skirax:

I gotta say, i AM very proud of this army :) makes all my dark eldar, chaos and marines (all from a long time ago) hang their heads in shame!

Anyway, i JUST finished my next kit to be cast in resin. Scratch built from card, plastic rivets, tubing and putty; and a very popular item of SoB equipment, i'd like to present to you my Sisters of Battle Rhino Extra Armour kit.

Pointed arch door and a 'sci-fi'd up doric column had me digging through my architectural history textbooks before semester's even started, but i figured that if it were a rhino of faith, the armour may as well be Romanesque!

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/IMG_0073.jpg

I had planned to go with far more detailing on the front hatch, but then i realized that detailing is to make a vehicle unique. Several rhinos all with the same floral pattern or wreath will cause... less visual impact. So i've stuck with just a classic (but altered) Fleur de Lys symbol on open armour plating. This gives enough space to attach scrolls, books, freehand, floral patterns, purity seals etc etc.

I've also limited the amount of insignia to the front plate so the side armour can be used for marines with a more of an inclination towards that kind of motif. I can even see a reprise of my dark angels some day B)

Will be getting these cast in the next day or 2, and will have a rhino complete with the extra armour very soon... ;)

Just a quick update on the Rhino front armour. Last minute changes just before mould-making... Thought the fluer was TOO sleek looking and didnt seem like a stylised version of the current symbol.

Should be good.

Oh, and Midas, lol i only built one exhaust cover but will be casting 4 for the complete kit :P

Holy machines! Rhinos are finished! (construction anyway...) Here are 2 more that i've put together since the last post.

First one is a a standard rhino with my custom SoB/neo-gothic armour. Kept the rest of it fairly simple so you can see the kit for itself. Filled the gaps with milliput and gave it a wash of black ink so the details would show better in a photo.

Second was Grand Theft Rhino from my white scars army. I hadn't finished painting it so i figured it didn't really belong to them :cuss

I come to this website looking for inspiration for my inquisitor army and on the first page I find pure awesome. These models look beautiful and the rhinos just look awe-inspiring.

Just a quick question what are those things you are using for rivets and how hard are they to apply?

  • 2 weeks later...

@ Burning Fury: Those rivets are plastic domes made by a company called Wave. They make parts like plastic rivet sprues, air vents etc. They're very easy to use :)

Updates:

Here are my Veteran Sisters Superior with books and bolters. Also included their backpacks which have icons etc on them to make them stand out a bit more...

As for the kit? i've resumed work on updating it to be 'all original'. Currently working on legs and arms. More on that in due time :)

Sneak Preview:

PS. I know there's a lot of glare and the lighting is horrible, but you've already seen the basice parts and i think the green stuff and conversion shows ;)

Hi folks,

Just a quick question before i continue adding to my kit... Has GW trademarked or copyrighted the Fleur de Lys symbol? I'm doubting it a little, or if they do, it should only be one specific 'style' of Fleur, no? I ask because the Fleur de Lys has been a hugely popular symbol for many things from before GW even existed, eg. Cigarette companies, Boy Scouts, Knights heraldry rather than say... The mark of Khorne or the Dark Angels symbol. Anybody have information on this?

Thanks

Oh what have you gone and done? Oh you.. you.. you wonderful mad genius. I wasnt sure how they'd look after seeing the first cast of torsos.. they seemed to have lost detail but when you washed them to highlight and defuse the white glare, they did look good. Pages later to me, time and dedication to you.. what a transformation.

These are just the type of long overdue kits some of us are dying to get our hands on. I have to say.. when you gave your Sisters a lick of paint you really brought them to life. Beautiful. I really like the diversity in the costume, it keeps a unified theme while adding little touches of individuality. The full face helmet you designed is really quite nice too and would look excellent mixed with the Sabbat pattern helmets we all know an love.

The angry mob photo is excellent, especially like the noose held by one Sister.. fear their wrath.

I am looking forward to seeing where the thread goes as you change and finalise your Sisters kit. And before I forget, I know.. so much eye candy my head is swimming, but yes.. the Rhino with the ornate chapel-like columns and new look doors.. gorgeous. So simple yet so clever and effective.

May the Emperor inspire you to further heights of greatness.

Hey folks, back for a long awaited update. I actually had these finished for a while with more updates on my desk in line for the camera ;) So close to finishing the actual kit now. With only the arms left before my kit is done. Anyway, i've sculpted 5 new sets of legs for the kit, same scale, but more feminine in their poses, complete with power armoured heels. I liked the way they looked in the 2nd edition and conceptual artwork, and besides, you're talking about space nuns in corsets... it's kinda expected no? :)

And also, a more modestly sized backpack. I'd love to have shown it on an actual sister to show scale but i couldnt find any blue-tac. Needless to say, it sits a lot nicer on the torsos. Having said that, i DO still plan on using the old eldar, marine and scout parts on future models, but incorporating a mix.

And here's the first set of complete arms. This is a set without robes although the others will have them.

I really should get back to studying, exam next week. But rest assured, there is more coming. I just felt that i should space it out a bit, especially with this being a big update. ;) Let me know what you think, love em, hate em, comments, suggestions. With any luck i'll be able to move on from sculpting masters and actually get on with building the army soon!

I been following this since the start and have been amazed for awhile I love the pewter sisters of battle and dread what they may look like when gw dies finally make them in plastic but if they come looking like yours I may have to buy a few just to have.....really I do have enough as it is but. The chapterhouse rhino kit is nice ( got one for my crimson fists) so well worth it if you like the old rhinos.

For St. Mina and the Order of the Bloody Rose!

Progress on the sculpting is looking really good! New hands look far less mannish and bulky.

Have you considered using someof the old, third-edition bolters for these gals, instead of the new ones? The old ones are smaller, and might look more in scale with your new sculpts.

Hi all, i admit i've been a bit lazy with those arms and indeed i have yet to cast those legs; also been a bit distracted by my White Scars.

Although not actually part of the SoB kit, i've done SOMETHING so i'm hoping that these'll interest you for now. :) I'll keep this short, all i'll say is that there are 3 of them and they're mounted on rhinos...
