A walk in dark places....

I am the Stig

Hey everybody! (hey dr Nick!)

So, this is where I stand. Having been reading the Horus heresy series recently, I've grown to love the Black legion. The fact that their basically chaos Ultrasmurfs (but 1000x cooler) is one factor, but for me they also have a certain air of tragedy around them, which is also cool.

Now, with both of these in mind, I'm thinking of Assembling my own Black legion. However, I've heard the voices upon the wind saying that there were rules for chaos legions in the 3.5th edition chaos codex. So my questions are these:

1.) Did the Black legion have specialist rules, or were they represented in the main army list.

and

2.) If they did, could someone please give me a brief rundown of what was in each section of their FOC (e.g what hq's, what elite's etc), and what the major divergences with the main list were.

Cheers ;).

I'm not too sure what was in the old 3.5 codex, however it seems to be the general consensus that the current Chaos Codex is Codex: Black Legion/Renegades. It even has something that Abaddon had ordered about the creation of (Defiler) in the codex.

But from reading around here I think Black Legion in 3.5 was just the all rounder. Could pick up just about anything they wanted, with a few exceptions or somethin.

I did like the little bit of a page they had to themselves in 3.5 and really liked the description of their battle methods.

The legion favours close action over ranged combat and will normally seek to apply constant pressure on the enemy. This is achieved by means of sharp but limited assaults to disrupt the enemy and capture positions which can be used for fire support. This in turn keeps the pressure on while a new series of assaults is prepared. The time-lag between attacks gradually declines giving the enemy less time to respond. The Black Legion Commander will wait at the head of his Chosen for the pressure to tell before launching a final, devastating assault in which teleporting Terminators often feature.
