The Fallen are Rising!

Alrighty then....

So, it's been a while, but I have some updates... a Landraider, my Harbinger Squad (Raptors) and a Greater Daemon (cos Harbinger's have to precede something, right?) There about 95% finished, but close enough for government work.

Land Raider - The Knight of Caliban

Harbinger Squad

My fluff behind these is that they were one of the first squads to turn to Chaos. They held to an old Calibanite superstition that said Angels and Daemons were one and the same... the guardian angel who protects you is the daemon that your opponent fears... and so they decorated their wargear in either angelic or terrifying manners. After they fell, they encountered to Greater Daemon Tch'Aaron who started to prey on this belief, finally twisting it, and them, into the Raptors you see now.

Angels

And the Greater Daemon, Tch'Aaron

And that's all she wrote folks.

I went back and forth on the Astorath model... I started with him 100% black, before painting him bone as you see him. Not 100% convinced. Any opinions?

As always, any comments and criticism are welcome.. except that I know that I haven't drilled the bolt pistols, but I will, I promise, and I am aware there's a couple of other things left to do (paint the bones and muscles on the bat wings, some extra highlights, the plasma coils, and one or two daemon horns on legs, etc)

Cheers,

Thanks for all the comments guys, I really appreciate it. The raptors were initially going to use just the Possessed wings, but when GW released the Sanguinary Guard I knew I had to use some of them

They were a lot of fun to put together (albeit a horribly inefficient use of parts).

@Timboli - Thanks mate, I appreciate it.

i love the fluff behind your raptors, really awesome idea

Cheers - I read the idea of Angels and Daemons being two sides of the same coin recently and thought it would be a pretty cool explanation for these guys.

i would maybe give the deamon a pair of deamon wings so it would fit better to the fluff ;)

Yeah, in hindsight, that might have made more sense, but the Daemon actually came before the raptors, which came before the fluff, so... oops!!!

The Greater Daemon started from the idea of having an Angel of Death in the army. Most of the banners in the DA book seem to have a hooded skeletal figure (sometimes with wings) smiting the foes of the Dark angels. I figured that if such an apparition appeared to members of the Dark Angels, who had recently been swept from Caliban, disillusioned with The Lion, The Emperor or The Imperium, it may not be long before they turned to Chaos.

@ Perfectionist - Thanks, mate, I appreciate the compliment, and as far as this goes

However I hope the remaining 5% work you described earlier includes drilling the bolters/plasma guns? <_<

I'll do it. Promise

Cheers

Neato! Haven't seen a Fallen army before. I'm not entirely sure about the angelic/daemonic wing mix though in those Raptors, the concept is good, but the styles differ too much (the angel wings look unnatural, whilst the daemon wings don't - you know what I mean?)

Good Nightbringer conversion. It seems to be popular with Angel conversions.

Thanks for the continued interst guys...

Oops!

Sorry mate, I somehow skipped that last section!

Well at least I can rest easy now... I hope you know that every undrilled barrel makes baby Jesus cry right? ;)

Cheers,

Perfectionist

LOL, no worries it happens. And yes, I had heard that. 'course I'm told many things I do make him cry, but oh well. I'm pretty sure my handcart has racing stripes B)

I love it...... Even if you have fallen...... Keep up the good work and hope to add a black pearl... err i ment invite you to the DA chapter reuinion.....

Heh. I'll look for the invite

Thanks Normish. Yeah, I know what you mean about the Raptors (although I actually think the angel wings look better, but hey... what do I know? :P ).

To solve it, I think I may add more Raptors, then break them down into smaller squads... I have ideas for 2 more aspiring champs - One using the Jump Pack Chaplain and the Sanguinor's wings, and another using the old, old Raptor champ (the one with Skull Armour and winged jump pack) using Belakor's wings - which could lead me to have 3 squads of raptors, 2 Angellic and one Daemonic.

We'll see I guess. I have some Oblits and Chaos Marines on the board right now. Who knows what'll happen after that.

Keep the comments coming folks.

Cheers

That's not a Land Raider, it's a porcupine from hell  Spikes everywhere!

Hehe very nicely done models man. I like the rivets in particular. Amazing how itty bitty dabs of silver can break up a stark black model silhouette so well.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments.

This is not much of an update, but it's something. There is a group shot of the Fallen, and there are some finished pics of the "porcupine from hell" :P

As always, comments and criticism are welcome.

Greetings one and all,

OK, so after the success of the last post, lets try again...

Nothing "finished" here, but since I've completed the parts in these pics (and I'm quite psyched about them) I'm gonna post them anyways. These are not great photos as it's hard to pick up the contrast and highlight on the red, but...

First time I've done free hand on this scale.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I really appreciate it.

As I said, this is the first time I've done anything on that scale, so I'm really happy with how they turned out.

I did some freehand on the banner in the command rhino (the 1st pic - you can just about see the foot of the banner in the bottom of the pic) , but am not yet 100% happy with it. Pics will follow, but at this point let me just say that I learned that (1) I suck at painting skulls, and (2) if you want to do a free hand banner well, you really need to do the painting before you stick it to the vehicle. Otherwise the rhino tends to get in the way somewhat!!!!

I have a couple of things left to do before I post the vehicles and their squads, but stay tuned cos it won't take long.

As an aside, I am thinking of adding one more rhino - it will be for Cypher and a squad. I am going to pick up some of the Forge World extra armour, but am wondering how to alter the design for the top hatch...

I'm leaning toward either

1) the same as the Command Rhino (1st pic) but without the underlying chaos star... in otherwords a pure DA symbol harking back to the Rogue Trader style DA symbol, probably with arrow heads at the end of each arm

or

2) trying to replicate some feathered symbol like the one on the front of the landraider posted above.

Any thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Keep the comments coming folks,

Cheers

@ Dark Apostle Thirst

:)

Heh!!! I can see where you're getting that from. I think it is (mostly) the fault of the picture/camera angle. In reality, it's a fairly dynamic pose, but not so much that he looks like he's falling over or he's a chicken. or at least no more than normal assault marines ;)

At some stage I'll try to get some decent pics up - maybe you'll be able to see what I mean - if not, I may have to rethink the angle of the pose. i appreciate the comment though.

Cheers

Greetings one and all,

So I have a small update for you - Chaos Marine Squad (designated Squad 2) and it's Rhino.

Group Shot

The Marines

And the Rhino

The blue highlights got a little bit away from me, and so these are a little more blue than I'de have liked, but part of that is the light. The bolters are drilled, but not all of them have been painted and highlighted properly after drilling. My bad!!

As always, comments and criticisms are welcome.

Cheers
