No, they don't really have to be keeping with anything. If you want to run with obscure Jewish names, I think that might work. GHY already named one of the Aricultural Moons Zhu's Hope.

Ace, the Infinity Knights are in good hands, the Death Heads, Warriors Eternal and Arctic Lions will show them a real scrap :D (I jest, hope to see your stuff soon, and I hope the real world doesn't get in your way too much).

Honestly, I think most can be summed up as spin offs of major ones.

Zhu's Hope is an Agricultural moon, I think it would be fitting to have one of the manufacturing moons named something like St. Zhu.

But yes, only the important ones need anything in the way of names (most of the manufacturing ones anyway), 8 manufacturing moons and 40 agricultural ones. So, 8 names really :D .

Ferrus . . .

Kabbalah honestly makes me laugh. Like, tears of joy laughter. Mostly because the first time I glanced over it I saw Kablahblahah.

The names don't have to be keeping with hell.

Peklo, Metnal and Sheol (though I'm sure that's been used somewhere, I can't nail down where though . . .) sound good.

So, if Saint Zhu or Zhu's World stays, that gives 4 worlds. St. Zhu is still open to suggestions, though I would like to keep the Zhu part.

It was raining. It was always bloody raining. We dropped somewhere in the West District, Valkyrie jump, nothing we haven't done a hundred times before. But, it's been a while since we left home, it was hard remembering how bad it was. As soon as half the squad was out, the wind started picking up. I hit the ground by that time, but the poor bastard behind me, he just flew away. Away from the city, right over the edge. His screams rang over the howling winds, it was the worst thing I've heard in my life, and I couldn't do anything about it. The valk followed us for a few blocks, four of our boys in her belly ready to drop once we got to a safe LZ. She never made it, the valk was shot out of the sky and our boys went out with her. The Gen Col, we swept away their forces on the moons, but this is their city, and it was mine. We were there for a month, us and every traitorous scumbag this world and all of the moons had left. I hate them all, I hate them all so much *indiscernible*.

Should give the scribe something interesting to work with  .

“Onward Brothers! For Ursrik! *Bolter Fire in background* Take it out! Take down the gun!” *Crackle* “Captain, the AA guns are down. Thunderhawks inbound.” *Cannon fire and large explosion* “In the name of Gulliman and the Emperor!”

“Brother Hjok, take point. The Train is ours!”

“Colonel Baran, I pronounce you traitor and deliver the fitting punishment for such charges: Death,” *Bolter fire*

“Inform the Death Heads that the World Train is down.

More for the scribe.

More for the scribe. ^_^

Oi Vey! I've got my work cut out for me already I can tell.

Good stuff!

As an aside, here is an image I stumbled across and seems to depict the ACN almost perfectly from ground level.

Also I found a more 40k-ish sky-city.

Not to double post, but here is what I had for the first scribe entry, more of a descriptive piece and a preface for meta-information on the Campaign. This is for all intents and purposes a First Draft, so don't consider it finalised by any stretch of the imagination.

The high domed cieling of the High Lords assembly chamber soared high above, reflecting the echoing of the business of the day. Voices rising and falling intermittantly and with no discernable rythem or cadence of conversation, mixing with the incessant sounds of mechanical devices whirring and clicking in their recording of every single moment and decision made. Bionically altered scribes and servitors stood as statues as they listened, servo-skulls and messenger cherubs darting between each Lord's position.

A single unobtrusive figure sat cross-legged below the High Lords vaunted sepulchures, his faded brown robe marked only by a silver aquila pinned to the center of the chestpiece. Across his lap stretched a pad of aged vellum, quill in bionically augmented hand, beside him lay a leather satchel upon which rested spare quills and a pot of sanctified ink. A collection of Data-slates cascaded from an open compartment onto the marble floor beneath. Each movement of his hand slow and measured in the extreme. Vision augmetics crowded a pale face, three day old stubble on his cheeks the only part of himself that was not closely maintained.

A swarm of servo-skulls spiralled down from the heights above him, causing him to pause in his writing, cleaning and placing the quill among it's fellows and blowing softly upon the recently scored scripture. Closing the pad the man turned to his satchel, placing within the vellum, ink and quills. Gathering the Data-slates into his hands he waited patiently as the skulls reached his level, whirling around him, the whirring emitting from each one creating a maddening buzz as each one attempted to confirm his identity. With a flicker of lights the skulls sped away as quickly as they had arrived.

Moving to his feet the lone figure moved from the edge of the chamber where he had been sitting to the center, hundreds of stairs marking his ascension to the center dias. Cresting the top the scribe paused to take a calming breath before moving to the center of the platform and bowing to each of the High Lords in turn. Before him stood a small podium with a handful of slots, a diminuitive mechanicus magos standing unobtrusively to the side. Nodding to each other the Data-slates changed hands and as the crimson robed figure turned to the podium the man, now very alone upon the platform, ventured to begin his presentation.

"My Lords and Masters, your humble servant Michaiel at your service. I have here the collected recordings of the Campaign against the recently secceeded Gehenna Cluster. Before I begin you must surely know of the Campaigns success, I am here to present to you the information discovered in the course of the war. If you will permit me, my Lords, I will begin with Gehenna itself and the manner of it's most foul heresy....."

Excellent start, GHY!

The picture is very close to the ACN, and the soldiers don't look half bad for either the Gen Col or the Gehenna regiments, a nice mix between what you gathered earlier. There still has to be a distinction between them, something noticeable, but I can't really decide what it should be.

Still need a couple more moons, also:

St. Zhu or Zhu's World? Alternatively think of something else involving Zhu for the name of one of the manufacturing worlds.

KHK

Could you write a description and characterization for Ferze perhaps KHK? Just in case I write anything coming from him or anyone talking of him.

Excellent start, GHY!

^_^

There still has to be a distinction between them, something noticeable, but I can't really decide what it should be.

An Aquila? :P

In all seriousness the Gehenna Imperial Guard and the Gen Col would be nigh indistinguishable unless something was done to remedy this. You have to decide first whether the move to distinguish themselves from their erstwhile countrymen was introduced by the Imperials in foresight of the coming campaign, or whether it was the Gen Col leadership for the same reasons. Neither side would wish to have any blue-on-blue engagements.

As such you can distinguish them how you like as long as you state the process, though the environmental gear would likely be identical seeing as while uniforms are fairly easy to replace, along with insignia and even weaponry, specific environmental gear would likely not be quite as easy to replace or as well specialized as the stuff made in Gehenna for the ACN.

Could you write a description and characterization for Ferze perhaps KHK? Just in case I write anything coming from him or anyone talking of him.

Of course. Ferze is a lithe, healthy older man. He's taller than most, standing somewhere in the range of 6'2'' or 1.9 meters. He is a tactical mastermind, remember this is the man who held off an entire Ork Waaagh with the PDF. Very direct, very condescending, a son of Gehenna nobility.

Like most of Gehenna's populace, he wears a rebreather (near all the time) and frequents the outside. His voice is raspy and gravelly, he is very influential. His Generals are picked based on ability rather than nobility, wealth or relationship with him. He is arrogant and sees himself as peerless. He also feels that he is superior to the Eldar and is fully unaware of the significance of the hidden moon except as a final bastion that he can use against the Imperium.

Nice guy, eh?

An Aquila? ^_^

Despite being quite right, the emphasis was noticeable difference. The Aquila can only be so large, so it's more or less a complete change in uniform becoming necessary.

the move to distinguish themselves from their erstwhile countrymen was introduced by the Imperials in foresight of the coming campaign

I imagine this situation more, the Guardsmen have far less pride in their uniform than the Gen Col who have been using the uniform for generations. So, helmet, sash, a little flag on their back, ideas?

Well, as for ideas....

The problem with blue-on-blue is that it can happen very easily in any military, no matter how professional or organized. The real key to preventing friendly fire is clear communications, planning and good leadership.

That said, looking markedly different to your opponent goes a long way, more-so in the 40k universe where things are typically less-well hidden than modern warfare, and much more brightly coloured.

The real problem here comes from the poncho's that the guardsmen wear on both sides, it obscures almost all of their uniform and equipment. As such you'd be best to resort to simply putting coloured covers over your helmet to the opposition, though nothing too bright so as to make them targets for enemy snipers or even front-line infantry.

It's a tricky proposition. Perhaps just a coloured sash over their poncho. All that said, friendly fire is an unfortunate fact of modern warfare.

+edit+

Oh and for reference purposes, the Scribes name shall be Garrus Corro,

Well that went out the window quickly, I think I might snip that to prevent confusion as there's enough of it around already. Contagious I tell you.

Codex Grey Nice :tu: !

GHY

I think a canvas covering on the helmet would work, right? Possibly even having large aquilas printed on the sides. The sash might be a good addition as well, anyone have a color in mind?

Shame if friendly fire takes out a few too many, but I'm sure the Imperium could work vox magic to keep communication going well. Plus, this can give the account of some guardsmen infiltrating positions just by disguising their helmets.

Garrus Corro

Aside from sharing a name with Taggart and having a name that sounds Klysian, what's wrong with it? Just curious.

Garrus Corro

I forgot it and wrote another and don't want to change it now. :D

The infiltration thing could work and would be great, I'll have to write something up.

As for friendly fire, I don't think the Imperium would be too worried about it really. They are men that have come from a traitorous world and that works even less in their favour. All in all, I wouldn't want to be one of the Gehenna regiments returning home at all.

I think a canvas covering on the helmet would work, right? Possibly even having large aquilas printed on the sides. The sash might be a good addition as well, anyone have a color in mind?

Anything that marks out a soldiers head makes him sniper-bait, but then that again is not really a problem for the Imperium given how many men they can pile into any given warzone. As for a colour, it has to be something easily recognizable and distinguishable from the natural colours of the battlefield environment they are fighting in.

In retrospect, the ACU would be some heavy urban warfare. Snipers are incredibly common and as dangerous in an urban warzone as anywhere else. They can hold up large bodies of troops for days and unless the Imperium is willing to demolish most of the city to flush them out the casualties will be utterly horrendous. Since the Eldar are involved, I think this magnifies the effect many, many times over. Even the Space Marines are susceptible to snipers, Eldar even more so.

In which case it makes it paramount to go after the important targets first, cut off the head and the body will die. Slogging through an urban warzone and entrenched defenders is a horrific fight for the attackers.

So . . . GHY, when are we going to see more from the scribe . . . :) !

When I write some more up! I originally intended the scribe's testimony to punctuate the objective 'narrator' account of the campaign and it's description for the reader but if you want to make it a full-blown non-stop accounting from beginning to end then I'll have to work a hell of a lot harder and it will take me a fair while to get it done.

What's the scribes name as of now?

Well, the Gehenna Regiments are going to have their fair share of snipers and counter snipers. While the ACN has technology too valuable to bomb, mostly the gas extractors, I don't see the Imperium hesitating to put a lance through sections of the city, especially the hab districts. I also think Vultures would be on near constant watch and patrol once the invasion really takes hold.

I'll see what I can do for a few more accounts from soldiers.

EDIT:

The Imperial Guard command surely knows that just assigning Gehenna Regiments isn't all that hot of an idea. Are there regiments akin to Military Police? Maybe even have the General request some sort of high brow regiment to kick the Gehenna round and push them forward? I'm thinking of a regiment similar to the Volpone from Gaunt's Ghosts, basically a regiment of planetary nobles who also act sort of like wardens during the campaign? Is this a good idea?

Well, the Gehenna Regiments are going to have their fair share of snipers and counter snipers.

That's true, but defenders always have the advantage here. Snipers already set up and waiting have an obscene advantage over anyone attempting to ferret them out.

All I'm saying is that the casualties are going to be fairly high for the Imperial Guard here.

The Imperial Guard command surely knows that just assigning Gehenna Regiments isn't all that hot of an idea. Are there regiments akin to Military Police?

Internal problems are usually dealt with by the Commissariat. An over-abundance of Commissars and perhaps even Pyskers to keep tabs on the guardsmen would work.

That said, mixing them in with other regiments would work best, splitting them up so as to limit the damage of any infiltration or betrayal. Keeping them alongside a very dedicated, loyal regiment would be best, something like a Vostroyan or Armageddon regiment, simply because they have both the urban warfare skills and the long-standing history of valour and loyalty. Soldiers of prestigious regiments are less likely to sully their ancestors and comrades in arms in that way.

I'm thinking of a regiment similar to the Volpone from Gaunt's Ghosts, basically a regiment of planetary nobles who also act sort of like wardens during the campaign? Is this a good idea?

Maybe, I think I saw something like that somewhere in the last Guard codex, not sure though. I'll have to ask a friend who has the older one as I don't think it's in the most recent one. A Regiment that fights alongside others and keeps an eye on them could work though if you wanted to create one. So long as they fight too rather than just sit in the rear to watch on the reserves.

Well of course they'd be fighting.

When have losses ever stopped the guard before? I actually imagine one of the generals would pull a Patton and just trounce several platforms with an endless line of Russ tanks with the support of some Predators. Still, defenders would have the advantage, I know.

Any ideas for names on our noble regiments?

Vossies could work, I think. I don't think they would play as huge of a "you're scum" role that the Volpone did.

So, the scribe's new name is?

You are making a PDF with the rules in, I presume? Because if so, this is going to be SWEET!

We appreciate your enthusiasm, no doubt! ^_^

Well, a .pdf would be the ideal end-result of the work being done here but it is by no means an assured outcome as of yet.

So, the scribe's new name is?

Well...

"My Lords and Masters, your humble servant Michaiel at your service......

^_^

Any ideas for names on our noble regiments?

At the moment, not much of a clue. I'm trying to come up with some more scribe and other assorted excerpts.

GHY, do you think it would be easier for the scribe if he formed some friendships with various guardsmen and maybe a couple Astartes? Kind of like the Remembrancers . . . just a thought.

Ferrus, are the Glostrian your own creation and can you give me an idea of who they are? My thoughts were on a Volpone like group of regiments brought in for their faithfulness to keep the Gehenna fighting and add a punch themselves.

EDIT: :) quite a funky double post . . .
