Yep, thank you very much, that indeed was helpful. You know, it's not like you told me something completely new that I hadn't figured out by myself yet, but because of my lack of experience I didn't trust these methods yet. With you input, however, I may preferably try method 1) and 3) as well.

Just a final question to make sure I understand you correctly: you are saying that even after basecoating the model with the spray, the plastic glue still works? I am a little surprised because in order to work, that type of glue has to melt the plastic slightly, so I guess that's why you resort to method 3) after all. <_<

I hope I haven't hijacked your thread too much, but this was just an opportunity too good to let it pass. :P

Glad to be of service.

To your question:

Well, it depends. I have used plasticglue on some painted models long time ago, and their heads fell off. But with only the basecoat applied I think the plastic glue will work as well, but if you are in doubt, I recommend the superglue.

Don´t worry about hijacking, you´re welcome. :P

Snorri

nice!!! so you finally decided it was time to replace "old looking(not beakies, unfortunately) guys, with so much layers of all that stuff you´d never put on a mini" (how you once described your tactical squad ;) )

great job so far, can´t wait to see rest! :P

Thanks, Brother Perun.

Well, well, here goes my Tactical Squad, close to completion:

I tried to make them a tad more fancy than just "red" marines, hence the freehands on their PA.

Individual shots of some marines:

Sarge is not really finished, i.e. his right knee pad and the skull on his right knee pad...and, and, and...

And of course, my neutralizing friend:

Well, at this point of my litte show (off :o ), I´d like to present a former Captain of mine, now DC Furioso dread assigned to 2nd Company. He indeed was a Captain, and indeed he died. For real. Some fool (no names here  ) stomped on him after he fell of the gaming table, and as all of you know, the gaming table is the end of the world! He had to find out the hard way...

I apologize for the lightning, in a few weeks I will have access to a better lightbulb.

Well, the pics are obviously not GW quality, but adequate for the tabletop. More to come.

Thanks for watching,

Snorri

I'm no painting expert but I like em.. Its good to see the back rounds people make up about there squads! Gives them more character and makes you want to field them on the battle ground more often!

I like what you've done on the sarges bolter nice to see something other than black and boltgun metal

The free hand painting is good to, I havn't been game to try it myself yet

Ah, Lackus Replius, so finally we meet. :P

lol wrong time to post me thinks mate what with all the dex hysteria!!!

Anyways, look good to me; nice bright red and I have to say I am envious of your freehand :)

 Yes, indeed. Had to take some photos and upload them before end of March as it is going to be a really busy month, non-hobby wise.

Thanks for the kind words. I will upload some other stuff in the following days.

Thanks, Jorre! I think similarly about the bolter casings. :)

I like your style - truly awesome models !!

You are very kind, bevulf.

Compared to your Honour Guard my stuff is a little underwhelming. ;)

Snorri

I really think they are very good. I like the solid colours - especially when it comes to red. It is really hard to achieve a good look and you managed to do that :)

Have been disappointed very often in the not too distant past...by Mechrite Red, Blood Red, Skull White spray and so on...tried something new and it worked. :)

Again, thank your very much.

It was the first time for me to use a black foundation without Mechrite red, painting pink marines and making extensive use of the GW washes on red minis.

You know, when I started the SH terminators, I swore not to use anything that will quicken the progress, so no washes in general, everything had to be painted by personal skill...might have been a tad unreasonable, but I will stick to this attitude in future, especially in regards to the new models. :tu:

Double post I am afraid, but I have to say:

VOW COMPLETED!

After one hell of a week I finally managed to work on those guys to get them ready for the LPC.

Here is a picture of the Tactical Squad. I did some highlights in orange and some shadings in purple.

C&C are welcome.

Snorri

Edit:

Oh, a qick question: Do I have to post in the main LPC-thread that I have fulfilled my vow? Thanks in advance.

Very nice Tac squad and well done on completing your vow! That's an interesting technique using pink for the undercoat, something I hadn't thought of. Which reminds me, I better pull my finger out and get cracking with my LPC vow.
any chance of a red cross tut?

First of all, I´d like to apologize for my late reply. It has been a very busy week so far, and all of a sudden there´s a brown box with a codex and some miniatures at my doorstep distracting myself from everything else but assembling and painting.

Even though I tried to follow your wish for a Red Cross tutorial on a DC JP.

Here you go:

1. Step: Use a 1:1 mix of water and GW Mechrite Red for the shape.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/Snorrinorrison/WIP/BILD0436.jpg

2. Step: Well...same as the first step. :P

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/Snorrinorrison/WIP/2.jpg

3. Mix Blood Red and Mechrite Red 1:1 and apply it to the crosses.(Sorry for the blurryness...)

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/Snorrinorrison/WIP/BILD0440.jpg

4. Use Blazing Orange for highlights on the outer lines of the symbols.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/Snorrinorrison/WIP/BILD0442.jpg

5. Add Sunburst Yellow to your Blazing Orange(1:1) and highlight some of the edges:

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad309/Snorrinorrison/WIP/BILD0443.jpg

6. At last, glaze one or two layers of thinned Baal Red over the symbols, especially to tone down the orange highlights and you´re done.

Alright, I hope this was helpful for you.

Of course, a WIP pic of my Sanguinary Guard must not be left behind:

I tell you, those were a pain to look at...in fact, they were so shiny I had to wear sunglasses while dipping them into a pot of Gryphonne Sepia. ;)

Comments and Criticism are highly appreciated. :tu:

Hideho, friend and foe! Update time with some WIP shots:

The Sanguinary Guard. Gold is done, as is the other metal stuff and the red. Still to do would be the wings, the blades and the bases.

Two of my favourite members:

This one has some "You want something too, huh?!!" - feeling to me. ;)

Aaand the nicely screaming guy with axe:

Of course this wouldn´t be a thread about BA without the first out of two Baal Preds:

And one of my Vanguard Veterans: Hammertime!

The other guy, again many thanks to Seva for inspiration:

Alright, getting a little pic heavy, but that´s it for today. I will test some of the new stuff tomorrow in a game and proceed painting them.

As always, C&C are welcome. :)
