Looking good! You're really making progress it seems. Good to see you went for the death mask heads, best bits in the sprue if you ask me.

Hadn't realised the Baal Pred's turret was that slender? It looks tiny compared with the regular one..!

I'm still on vacation, far away from my models and all you guys' blogs so make me want to paint!! I went to a local hobby shop and got parts 3 & 4 of the Swallow books, that's how desperate I am at this stage. ;)

Just caught this thread, very nice stuff in here Snorri! That bright red is striking, especially with all the darker details you put in. Also glad to see some Sanguinary Guard hitting the table, and almost finished at that! I actually just started working on the first of my Baal Predators; have to say I'm much happier with the bits for these than with the generic Predators. Keep it up!

Looking very good mate; particularly liking the Sang Guard. Many might not think they're effective but damn they look cool!! I see what you meant about having multiple projects on the go - aaargh the agony of choice :)

Keep 'em coming...

Thanks for kind replys, brothers! I will tone down the baal a little bit, and see how it works. The next update will most likely contain further pictures of the Veterans, for which I will buy another DC box today.

@ ancient god:

Yeah, the turret is rather short, but I really appreciate the brutal looks of it...I fell in love with those looks when I first saw the "new" hybrid Baal.

@ Vel´Cona:

Yup, the Baal sprue is awesome. Having two, it will be no problem to bling out some new Rhinos in future.

@ Angelus:

Its a pain indeed. In the moment I want to focus on e.g. the Guard, the Sanguinary Priests catch my eyes and whine about not being finished. But then we have a Baal Pred with only red and black parts done, and and and... It´s terrible. :lol:

Snorri

Thanks Midnight, glad you like them! :tu:

A little update:

Started painting Lemartes - gorgeous model. Never seen something like this, or held it in my hand. Further, I assembled my version of Captain Aphael, who will be painted for a small painting competition in my local GW.

Wow, really love your red! So, sorry if I get it wrong, but it is Black primer>Pink>Thinned Red (mixed Vallejo/GW)>Red wash=done? If so then I have to try this as it is a black primer that doesnt use mechrite red! (good color, I just cant seem to use it right...) Great looking models, I really like how your army is turning out! ;)

Cheers, man!

Yes, basically that´s right. After the red was done, I applied highlights in Blazing Orange, Blazing Orange + Sun Yellow(1:1) and finally Blazing Orange Sun Yellow(1:2). It is important to highlight the edges in very sharp lines, so the overall looks will not turn out orange, but red with orange highlights.

If I were you, I´d wait for a pink Foundation Paint. Layering pink over black is a pain in the rear armour. :tu:

Thanks for the quick reply! I have some extra bits lying around, so might try it later today. Thanks for the tips! ;)

Again, I bring an update, this time with finished Lemmy and Captain Aphael, who is still WIP. Very WIP.

So, here we have what I did since Friday:

The new Lemartes is just lovely. I am tempted to buy the model again. ;)

Here we have my take on Aphael...Captain with artificer armour, Infernus pistol, Powerweapon and Jumppack on the board:

Note that his JP and himself are not glued yet so I can paint him withouth too much effort. I went for the Sanguinary Guard JP, to achieve the impression of him wearing a very old armour.

@Grimm Blade:

Yup, two thin washes of Sepia. Then I start with highlights in Polished Gold(Vallejo) and a 1:1 mix of Polished Gold and Mithril Silver on the edges.

Well that´s it for today. Thanks for watching!

I can't help but get jealous when I see the way you pose your models. Having a whole army of such dynamic models really must be a sight to behold.

Lemartes looks awesome, love the bone effect you have going on but can't help to feel that his head just looks a little small xD

Cheers, Quantra! :)

Aphael was thought to be entered into a painting competition and I wanted a dynamic pose, but as I somehow fell in love with that Lemartes model, I am tempted to use him instead of the Captian.

Snorri

I didn't think BA captains could take artificer armour?

It's a bit of a pain, as i reallly wanted to model mine with 'tif' armour.

If i'm mistaken, please correct me.

No, you are not mistaken. We don´t have access to artificer armour. But, as I am not going to accept this, I will ask my opponent(s) before every game to receive permission for this equipment.

A foolish mistake by the design team(for not blaming Matt Ward only).

Thank you very much, Angelus, here is an update:

Aphael:

Well, for that painting competition...he obviously is not finished, so I took Lemartes instead of him. Did not get anything, but Lemartes was not painted for that competition, but for the gaming table - such as Aphael. Still satisfied with both of them.

Okay, here´s the Librarian that really got me some nightmares. I still have not decided how to do the psychic hood, and therefore the head is not glued. Oh, and the loincloth is still missing, and that´s one of my biggest challenges on this dude.

Anyone of you guys got some tips, tuts or whatnots for how to make a loincloth out of GS? That would be very helpful. :)

Well, that´s it for today. And I foolishly started a new project, blinging out my Devastators with the new DC sprue(I knew that those backpacks would eventually be of use!), just primed. Oh, holy.... ;)

Snorri

You paint and convert very well. There is just one thing that bugs me: Lemartes, the captain and the librarian are all posed exactly the same! If you put them next to each other it will look as though they were doing line dance or something. So yes, Lemartes is the other way round with the right arm stretched out instead of the left, but still, this looks awkward. Maybe you could aim for a bit more variety there.

Hey guys, sorry for being off that quickly, but the weather was just lovely and I tried to spend as much time in sunny lazyness as possible. ;)

@ancient god:

Thanks mate! Your marines also look reaaaally nice - for how long have you been painting, if I may ask?

@ Quantra:

Glad you like the gems, Quantra! For every time I highlighted with Skull White, I mixed some Scab Red into the purple mix to keep the colour rather dark and not too light...I really can´t remember where I got this tip from, but it is really awesome.

@Haelaeif:

Well, I agree and I disagree. You´re right, Lemartes and the Librarian are somehow identical the other way round, but it is the body language that makes the difference to the Captain.

If you take a look on Lemartes and the Libby, you might see that their poses are rather defensive. Lemartes aiming with his bolt pistol, the Librarian descending(he will have a JP) from the sky casting a psychic power, the weapon hold behind his body.

The Captain, in comparison, jumps over a slain Chaos Space Marine, his legs are in a running pose, and he gives off a shot before throwing himself into the enemy lines again - the whole model screams "CHARGE"...or lets say, that´s what it is supposed to look like.

Thanks for your input anyways! :sweat:
