Hello Brothers!

The model still need a lot of sanding on the robes, some adjusments on the belt buckle-stomach thing, but the pose and general idea it´s almost done.

C&C are welcome as always.

Well, after a long time of work the first Primarch over my desk flew away...

And in this particular case the sentence have double meaning because the Primarch is the non offical pictured Corax, primarch of the glorious XIX legion, the Raven Guard.

This commission was particulary difficult to me because I have to design the model with only a few and very vague descriptions of the Primarch. The project began like a year ago, and by that time there´s no other information that some poor lines of background.

The audiobook "Raven´s flight " came at the 3/4 of the project, and not help to much about the design terms, only defined that Corax have a jetpack that allows him to fly, and not only jump.

After various failed concept designs, and a lot of discuss with my client, I came to the conclution that Corax have a lot of potencial to be a native american background based character ....

YOU SAY WHAT?

Yeap, think about it:

* Corax live in a tribe that call him Corax ( the scientific name of the raven).

* Theres an american tribe called Apsáalooke most know as "Crow people".

* Corax and his tribe are slaves in a huge industrial complex ( that reminds me what happen with the original american people under the European colonization).

*The warfare tactics are one of the most common war tactics used by the native american.

*The crow is ussually presented as "totem" in the RG fluff.

*The hulk RG monsters that Corax made (after the heresy) remind me the legend of the Wendigo .

*And finally the well know Corax´s final phrase is a quote from the poem "the Raven" By Edgar Allan Poe... an American writer.

Maybe sounds to strange something like this, mainly because most of the 40K background is based on European and Asian myths and cultures (with a few exceptions), but believe me I think a lot about this and I have a long of discuss with my client.

I´m really proud in how the model turns out, and to the date Corax is the best model that I made.

The model measures about 50mm high.

So, after this long introduction I leave you pics of Corax, Primarch of the Raven Guard... VICTORVS AVT MORTIS!

Thanks for reading.

PS: The banner-Totem seems misaligned in a couple of pics, that´s because it wasn´t glue.

Phenomenal. Can't really say any more than that. I think the discussios you had with the client were well worth it. The native american theme has worked really well. And that jet pack? stunning. I expect we'll see a few conversions like that popping up around here soon :)

thanks

James

This is amazing! Love the look and feel of this model. I definitly love that he looks desperate to get to grips with his foe. If I had one grip though is that the legs look a lot smaller than they should be. Great sculpting though, I wish I was that good.

Thanks for the comments guys!

@ Rider-75: The model gonna be painted by the eight time GD winner Thomas Schadle, most know at B&C as Commander Y.

So Corax will have an mazing paintjob on it very soon!

I realize that I forgot to include the pic of the model in pieces.

You are right on that count, the Deathwing are based on Native Americans, thats why they are often modelled with feathers.

As for your work, I think it is fantastic. Keep the good stuff coming please.

@ Corax the Primarch: Absolutely superb sculpting! Corax is dynamic, scary and wants to rip your eyes out. Would you do a comparable extraordinary cool and awesome Lion el Johnson for me? :wallbash:

@ Dante in TDA: Great scultping here. If I may add a bit of advice/constructive criticism: The robe seems to be to tight around the leg/waist. Now it seems like a skirt (obstructing the free movement of the legs). To make it more robe-y I would give it more cloth at the back, like billowing out. It should not be tight at both sides, but loose in the backdraft.

But this is only a comment from someone with abhorrent GS-Fu.

This interpretation of Corax is very interesting and original, as well as very well executed, congratulations! Not sure if it actually fits the official Raven Guard flavour, that has always been closer to Poe´s dark and moody, almost emo-gothic ambient, but it´s a very impressive model anyway, and I personally always thought that the Raven guard had a strong American/South American revolutionary influence (hey, their homeworld is called Deliverance and there are some Spanish names here and there).

+++***Censored: Inquisitorial level Red***+++

Now that's some serious sculpting! I love this take on the primarch; this is inspiring work. (I could go on and rave some more but I'll can it for now). The pose and the native north american feel to it are apparent from the first glance!

Thank you so much for sharing all of this

This thread made me tear a little. Your work on that titan especially, work at that scale is something to be credited for. Your Corax is boss, and so is the Dantenator, but the titan is phenomenal. I am truly jealous of your greenstuff talents.

Hi guys!

Thanks a lot for the comments.

I´m working in a few more primarchs to the date: Lion, Dorn, and Ferrvs.

All of them unique models for unique clients, no casting sorry.

I will keep you updated about the other Primarchs as far I finish them... *COUGH* ... Fist are coming! *COUGH*.

About Corax armour I must say that the elction of the shape on the armoured legs wasn´t easy.

But finaly I choose this one to make him look lighter than a regular Primarch.

The shape was inspired in the sketches of Sanguinus made by Blanche, and the Sororita´s armour... and the simple fact that the birds have thin legs :P .

In the meantime I managed to finish the work on the Dantenator.
