I'm ready to see a Gold Land Raider

Has anyone painted a honor guard landraider yet? I think it would be cool to have like tycho and his gold honor guard rollin' up in a solid gold landraider. Just a thought. lol

as soon as snoop dogg or xzibit get into the hobby we'll definately be seeing one.

I think it can be done and not be too gaudy. I thought that a all silver Land Raider would be too but then the Grey Knights showed up and proved me wrong.
There's a bit of a difference in which silver you use, though. If you use Boltgun Metal instead of Mithril Silver, it could make all the difference in the world between "grimdark/dirty" and "cheap and trashy." There's less difference in golds; there's only shining gold and burnished gold, both of which are really too bright.

Yo dawg, I heard you liked Land Raiders so we put a Land Raider in your Land Raider so you can Land Raider while you Land Raider your Land Raider.

Seriously. Someone should do a NMM Bling Raider; I would, but know nothing about NMM. Metallic metals would catch too much light and look absolutely awful.

With neon lighting etc...

The land raider rolled into view, dazzeling the onlooking orks with its shiny gold aura. Out jumped Tycho who popped a cap into the ork warboss's ass.

lol

If I were to do a gold Land Raider (I'm not so inclined, even for Celestial Lions I lean more towards old skool Codex Grey vehicles) I'd go find a can of gold car spray paint, a slightly lighter bottle of modelling enamel for the highlights, and some sepia oil paint for a wash.

I think a gold landraider could look good, just go very heavy on the non-metallic (red, black and white) accents.

I'd do main hull and hatches gold, weapon shields in red, weapons themselves in your typical boltgun/black colors and then the FW BA doors would be proper colors (wings white, blood drop red, scrollwork bone or parchment color.

So long as you didn't do it 99% gold but like 75% gold it wouldn't look bad. Depends on the gold as well. Some gold colors would just look worst than others. I have some automotive gold that I think would look good but again heavily accented with traditional non-gold BA colors.

Something like an antique gold would look way too "bad" IMO. Too bronze like.

Everything is Relative with these things... to the Chapter as a whole, it's recent. to the individual marines, and in some cases even sergeants and captains, it's something that's been around longer than they, their predecessor, and His predecessor combined. we're charging into M42, and it was found at the beginning of M41. enough time for them to get the battle-scars to match their more Venerable bretheren in the Thunderhawks, and even in the Land Raiders that drop from the sky... certainly Plenty of time for them to have been marked with the Heraldry, and customised.

Now I've heard the idea, I Want to do it. "The Stormraven flew down, blinding the enemy with its holy light... and then the Angels descended, and annihilated them with their divine might." One day, that'll be in a prayerbook, Somewhere.

Anyway, on the golden land raider... I doubt I'll be able to offer constructive criticism, I'll just look at the Shiny thing and be quiet for a long while.

Seriously though, I wouldn't be able to build one.

I have a Khorne Terminator CC squad, painted white with lots of blood splatters over the front - they always get targeted. Then again it could have less to do with them standing out as paint jobs and more to do with them standing out as mass squad of death.

Also, i dont get th etwilight references, i thought the gold was really cool actually.

It isn't the customization; it's the idea that a Stormraven would be specifically designated for holding an honor guard. We don't have that many of them, and yet fluff seems to suggest that most of the squads in each strike force are dropped off by Stormravens. Given their usage, I'd imagine Stormravens are passed around from squad to squad a bit more than Land Raiders would be. But people can do what they want, of course; that's just my personal interpretation of the fluff.

That's awesome and makes the idea worth it on its own, too.

I have to admit, I like the idea of a gold Stormraven...

I really can't see a ALL gold Land Raider, maybe a BA red with gold on it, sure specially for like Captain's, honour guard, Chapter master, but not the whole vehicle.

I'm thinking of that Ultramarines special tank they have with all the extras they had on it, it could be like that?

Stormraven, could mostly gold i guess from my point of view as i don't see them having that many of them so there like honoured flying transport, making it like a flying relic ...

One of the kids at the local GW has a gold LR. I'll try to get some pics of it - he's not the greatest painter in the world, so it's a bit of a brick, but it IS gold.

Oh jeez, is it gold ... ;)

Well, if you have a golden LR then if your playing a game of vanguard or a game which includes capturng objectives they will try to get rid of the LR whilst you can capture the objectives. I saw a golden ultramarines one in play in an apocolypse match and the opposition couldnt concentrate! not all bad
