Helsreach Novel Discussion

Bought the book a few days ago and finished yesterday. I don't think I've ever read such a well written and flowing book before. What surprised me most was that after expecting it to focus on just grimaldus and the templars, they were only part of it! I really liked the mechanicus scenes as well as any scene with andrej ;)

The scene that stood out to me the most was when jurisian had to begin destroying the security code to unlock oberon. The fact that he destroyed what he admired to commit a blasphemy that might have a slim chance of saving a city he didn't even care about spoke volumes about his character. Not only that but it was an order from the guy that jurisian had doubted whether he deserved his position or not. Having the servitors starve to death was icing on the cake.

Andrej was the definite main topic of discussion once my LGS folks had read the novel. It's a testament to a writer's skill that they can create supporting characters that are just as engaging and endearing as the protagonists.

Well i say "endearing", Grimaldus isn't exactly cuddly.

It is easily of the best books from BL and it reinforces my love of Black Templars. :)

A D-B is just fantastic in his writing for Space Marines, but i won't warble on as i will end up looking like a proper OTT A D-B fan boy/stalker.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but it stands its ground well against even his other works.

Please don't, I wouldn't respect you in the morning if you did ;)

I don't read that much at all. By that book had me hooked in. Had it off my orky mate who was talked into buying it by a GW manager becasue it had a lot on orks?, lots of orks maybe.

Anyways, finished it with 48hrs of having it. I was very surprised at how well they keep you glused in there. The way its written you can picture it and almost place yourself in there as a "watcher" reliving a memory. If you know what I mean.

The best bit I like is that it gives some BT fluff and some characters and fluff reasons for putting Grimaldus on a bike and having a jump-pack. I don't think I got disintrested in any part.

I love the part when he jumps out of the thunderhawk and lands perfect with the pilot and one of his men says "We saw that. We all bloody saw that." or words to that affect, and Grimaldus says my favorite line in the book, or one of, "Then your mind was not on the battle and you shall do pentience for it later."
I've never read it but after this thread I've put it in my cart to purchase with my first order <_<

You won't regret it brother!!! The reason I want to get a thunderhawk is to create a diorama of the Jumpack scene. That is one of the best in the book. Templars are as BA as it gets.... and not, Blood Angels are not BA... more like... BS... XP

Now now brother. They just read Helsreach and thought they would show how much they liked the book by re-enacting the scene that their entire gene seed thinks is just awesome. They all chose the Thunderhawk one. However, they didn't think they could be that eic so they have tobe assested with Jump Packs.

Grimaldus is so pimp air moves out of his way, and the ground just says, "Don't hurt me to much."

Nah, the two I would like to do are Jurisian about to take on the guardian of Oberon (with dead servitors in the background) and one where Grimaldus tells Priamus to pick up his sword.

Jurisian = Peacock.

:cuss

Heh, the spider like display of weaponry on arms on both sides would be cool, although I doubt I'd paint it colorfully enough to be a peacock. :)

Oberon getting the shot would be a third choice, but I'd hate to try to do the scale on that one. It would almost have to be Epic scale to get it to fit because to do that one real justice you need Godbreaker, Oberon, Bane Sidhe's collapsed form and the escorting Titans. Which would kill all the detail work for Oberon.

If we are going to keep this up why not a Diaroma of the entire book?

My second would be....When Grimaldus kills the Imperial Guard Office, the commissar salutes and Grimaldus ignores him.....

Grimaldus, ignoring your commissars since the third war of Armeggedon
