Brother Callern

Hi guys,

Bored all day at work so I thought I might as well try my hand at this. Now, I'm not too sure about the name of the chapter so that is still a work in progress...

Anyway here it is:

The ramp in front of Callern dropped down, landing with a squish sound mixed with a high pitched shriek. The sounds and atmosphere hit him like a sledge hammer after twenty years of rest in the bowls of the Chapter Keep back on Pellias, home world of the Templar Knights of Pellias.

With a heavy stomp, Callern moved forwards into the sun light, down the short ramp and into the battle itself. Exhaust fumes billowed from the power plant on his back and servos whined as he moved. A gaunts body flew past his sarcophagus trailing guts and blood as it went. Curled up in the life preserving sack, what was left of his lips parted in a smile.

He was back on the field again, serving his brothers and the Emperor. Twenty long years since he had been called into battle, the last time against the Tau. Those little blue freaks had nearly ended him with a rail gun shot that tore open his armour and ripped off his assault cannon arm. He still remembered the pain of losing the limb, artificial as it was.

Now he was repaired, he was hungry for another fight. Only this time, he was fighting a deadly enemy more worthy of his powerfist.

He stepped on to the field of battle under a bright blue sky, his feet crushing the bright green grass into the mud as his assault cannon span up to firing speed. His tactical brothers nearby cheered as his halved yellow and red hulking form stepped out from the shadow of the drop pod.

In front of him, a small group of genestealers saw him emerging and changed course from their original target.

Claws out stretched, jaws snapping, they leapt and ran through the carnage caused by his battle brothers on the Tyranid horde. He spotted the stealers and let loose with a three second burst. The armour piercing rounds sliced through the aliens reducing them to chunks of chitin and blood. He laughed out loud, his voice booming through his vox speakers mounted on the side of his sarcophagus.

Tiny aliens scurried all around his feet, snapping and clawing at his armour. He flexed the metal claws, pulverising the creatures under his weight. He finished them off with a quick burst from the flamer attached to his powerfist.

Hearing a high pitched alien scream, he turned to his right. Servos whined and cogs turned against each other as he moved, stepping away from the drop pod properly allowing the storm bolter inside to open fire on the critters that were crawling over the back of him.

He looked over to where the tactical squads were sheltering amongst ancient rock formations and saw his Captain fighting off a tyranid warrior. The Captain just ducked under a scything claw and stuck back with his power sword but the beast still stood and fought back. It was slowly gaining the upper hand and the Captain was losing the fight, his armour creaked and servos protested as they struggled against the organic killing machine.

“For Dorn, for the Emperor” Honoured Brother Callern shouted over the vox system and charged towards the fight, crushing dozens of xenos under his feet.

As he moved, he sent quick bursts of fire into unengaged mobs of stealers and other aliens as they advanced on his brothers.

He reached the fight just as the Captain was knocked to his knees, power armour struggling to hold his sword up against the downwards push of the warrior. Its spit and breath coating the Captain’s helm, blinding his eye sight. It slowly reached around with another claw and pierced the Captains chest plate, taking what seemed like pleasure from the muffled cry of pain from behind the helm. It was about to finish him when Callern arrived. He gripped the xenos back in his fist and hurled it away, spinning his torso to add extra speed to the throw. The creature flailed in the air as it crashed into the soil, tearing a furrow through the grass.

Slowly, it dragged itself from the mud like a drunken brawler and shrieked at Callern, challenging him to a duel. A host of smaller creatures put themselves in front of it, thinking they were protecting the beast. They were wrong, this beast wanted to fight. It cut through them with all its claws in a fit of anger. Rearing up to its full height, it towered over Callern, demonstrating why the Captain struggled with it.

Callern, turned towards it, though he couldn’t rear up like it, he turned full on facing it in an open challenge. Behind him, the Captain’s command squad closed in on the wounded Lord and dragged him to safety, though he struggled to stand and take revenge on the beast that had harmed him.

“You want my Captain foul xeno, you go through me” he yelled and started stomping towards it, ground pounding with his heavy steps. The beast took the challenge and leapt towards the dreadnaught, screaming as it ran. It fired a salvo of flesh tearing rounds from its organic weapon held loosely but they splattered against Callerns armour harmlessly.

In return, Callern waited until it was closer then fired his flamer into its face. The creature screamed as the cleansing flames washed over it, turning away to protect its head and eyes. The dreadnaught slammed into it at full speed, crushing it into the grass.

Callern lifted his left leg and stamped down on its chest before reaching down, grabbing its head in his huge fist. With a tug, he ripped its head from the neck and held it aloft, foul blood running down his armour.

Behind him, he heard the Knights roaring approval from their position in the rocky outcrop.

A sharp, higher pitched scream made Callern spin round on the spot, his assault cannon spewing deadly ammunition into the sea of aliens around him. He turned to see a carnifex standing fifty meters away. Evil black soulless eyes boring into his own optical ones. All the aliens around him dispersed, not wanting to get in between the two behemoths.

Callern smiled and charged.
