Call of the Imperium Mk IV

Recommended Posts

I'm sad to report that I'll have to pull out of the challenge brothers. Sadly at work a few days ago I suffered an accident with one of our many sharp kitchen knives. As a result of this I know have a 3 inch long gash across the palm of my hand preventing me from holding a brush. Needless to say its taking a bit to type this out. I had fun taking part in this challenge with the rest of you and wish you all the best of luck in completing your goals.

MAY UPDATE #2

OVERALL UPDATE #2

Sorry its been a while guys, I was busy graduating university and all that that entails- but I'm finally done with school (for now) and got my B.A. in Psychology, and am now back to painting at my leisure :)

So far I've based everything and base coated everything; the terminator squad is finished completely as well. I will be posting picks as soon as I unpack my camera, I know its around here somewhere (moving stinks). Cheers,

Nick

Hmm. Thought i had more posts in here than i actually do; i've updated it 3 times in my own topic, but only once here.

So far, i've completed just over 1/3rd of my vow, namely the vanguard squad, tho i have made progress into the scouts and the terminators as well, and its probably about 1/2 way done in fairness.

MAY - UPDATE 6

Update on the Vanguard - my progress has slowed considerably as I am currently working on a similar style challenge as here but on a Warhammer Fantasy Beastmen army, so I have to split my time between the two.

Still, Vanguard, hooooooooooooooooooooo! :)

Second update of May.

As I am a fan of keeping things simple, I've decided to switch to a metallic primer rather than the standard black one.

It cuts out one step of the painting process as well as provides a perfectly smooth surface without brushmarks for the wash to go on.

Now, the stage is properly set for some serious painting!

May Update 02.

So this is how far I have got with the speeder. Basically the pilot nees his right hand finished and shoulderpads and he is ready to go.

http://pildid.warhammer.pri.ee/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=1501&g2_serialNumber=1

Librarian did get some work. Now I have a question- should I paint the mask white instead of this semi-golden stuff?

Cheers,

Wagner.

May Update #2
sorta kinda

-- May 9th --

So I managed to get some time to paint this weekend. Things are progressing, but I think I need to be more patient with the snot green. I obviously still need to paint all of the nice little details, but the I'm liking the overall look and feel of things.

gallery_53315_4705_57664.jpg

gallery_53315_4705_4634.jpg

Next up, purity seals and insignias.

-- May 27th --

My main focus has been on the librarian and figuring out how to model him properly. A lot of my ideas revolved around using a lot of green stuff (something that I'm not at all proficient with). it wasn't until about 5 minutes ago that I was looking over at Mathieu Fontaine's website (Perennial Golden Demon Winner) and realized that GW might already have a model that I can steal parts from to help me accomplish my goal of a cool looking librarian.

The following are from the GW website. I don't take any claim to owning then at all...

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m990085a_99060101453_BASanguinor1_445x319.jpghttp://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m990068a_99060101451_BAAstorath1_445x319.jpghttp://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m990074a_99060101451_BAAstorath2_445x319.jpg

If you notice both models accomplish a look of flight by using scrolls to lift them off the ground. The same scrolls that I was trying to figure out how to sculpt. I think I've just found a short-cut to a majority of my modeling dilemma. Personally I could see using Astorath himself as the majority of my Librarian. I would just need to make a few modifications to the figure.

First I would need to remove the Jump-pack and change it to a normal power armor backpack. Second, I would want to remove the ax head on his weapon and change it to a scythe blade. Third I would have to remove any BA iconography and change it to Dark Angels or Disciples of Caliban. Forth (and last), add a MC bolt pistol, and more scrolls (just to make sure he's properly shown as the bearer of the Lionus Censum). The only thing I'm not sure about is whether or not I would try to keep the wings (part of the jump pack).

-- May 28th --

I tried to pick up an Astorath the Grim model from my local game shop, and they were out. I have to wait until next week to get one. But I have continued working on my terminator squad.

gallery_53315_4705_5997.jpg

I'm not sure if you can tell the difference between these and the previous set, but I've started working on the purity seals and Terminator insignias.

Arkhanist's Angels Revenant
May, update 2

My camera SD card is playing up, so just a text update for now; hopefully sort out some pics in the next few days.

I decided my JP assault squad weren't dynamic enough, so I've ripped them apart and re-assembled in better poses. I've also moulded greenstuff blood angel style symbols for the chapter shoulder pads - the metal blood angel pads I ordered are too small, and I like the new death company pads too much to only have a few of them (and at £1 a pad on ebay here, too expensive to buy in!) They're also going to be JP/backpack magnetised, got a couple done that way already. Will use different paint scheme to distinguish from vanilla BA.

My company captain is still a work in progress. I have a few on the go; one in terminator armour, magnetised for different weapon arms, a kitbash and GS modification of the AoBR captain, and a Dante look-a-like made up largely from sanguinary guard bits. Should have them all assembled next month, then will decide which to paint to fulfill the Call.

The terminator squad is still in bits, I'm waiting on the BA forgeworld shoulderpads before I make them up.

I'm testing out a couple of alternative ways to simplify and brighten up my current red scheme on some throwaway models, so should be able to crack on and get some real painting of the Call models once that's done.

Perry T's Second May Update

Hey all, no pics at the moment but i have done the white paint on my white scars biker captain, and i have put the basecoat on my tactical squad.
My bike squad is still awaiting assembly but i'm going to paint the captain and tactical squad before i start on it.
I'm kind od busy with exams at the moment, but when they are over i will have more time to spend painting and these will come along a bit faster.

May Update 2

Done with 'Ard Boyz (no semi-final locations near me) so can dedicate more time to completing this challenge.

Anyways here is my 2nd May update. Got started on my Deathwing squad and librarian.

First update of June

Progress! Now with pics!

In addition to a nearly finished dread and the to-be-painted speeder, I tossed in a few AOBR marines to try a modified painting method.

I'm increasingly happy with how metallics shine through washes!

Pics found here!

With regret, I have to withdraw my CotI entry. The reason is I'm having too much work at the moment - the exams are killing me. Good luck to the rest of you!

June Update 1, Overall Update #3

Completed the Dreadnought, and made limited progress on my company master. When I was finished with the Dread, I added water effects to the base, and left it under a lamp to dry... never again. The poor dread took melta damage to the right torso... you can see in the pictures how the armour warped and bent from the "melta". I have since applied some modeling putty, but decided I have to leave this as battle damage.

Any suggestions how to paint melta scorching?

gallery_25017_4978_193588.jpg

Also, he is not very decorated intentionally. I want to add Icons and awards as he is used in games. Also, his torso is magentized, and I have three more arms for him (assault cannon, cc weapon, and Twin Linked Las).

Here are a few more shots from different angles - check out that melta damage! Yikes! I do like the barbed wire, and the subtle but noticeable water pooling around his feet...

And the company master - not much yet...
