IronKobra
These are looking awesome man! Particularly the Sang Guard! you have done a lovely job! I have to ask though, I have just got myself an airbrush and compressor, looking extremely similar to your own, and I am intending to do my own Blood Angels basecoats and washes with it. I am just curious if you had any tips on paint brands and mix ratios when using the air brush? I have been using mechrite red and a brush for most of my stuff and I think they look really nice, but I want to thin down those long boring stages any way possible. Khrangar
Makes me wish I was still in Toronto so I could play against the army on your table. I bet Mephiston's power level is over 9000. LardO'Blood
http://www.spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/December17_1.jpg I love your Mephiston! May I ask how you made the arms? DV8
I like the little details like the individual names on scroll work which are very impressive. but I did notice from the pic's that some of the blood drops and vials on the armour have been left golden, don't know if that's intentional or not, just seems slightly unfinished after obviously putting in alot of effort in to them. also feeling your pain on photographing metallics :) , the shine seems to wash out the contrast completely on my pic's. Keep up the inspiring work! ( cant wait to see the warhound ) J I actually had no idea what those were. I'll get on them sometime this week. And the Warhound is next up in line after I finish my Wolfwing (expect pics and updates on that tonight). I love your Mephiston!May I ask how you made the arms? I want to do a similar pose for my Dark Angels librarian. Biker arms, repositioned, and with green stuff. DV8
As a bit of a break from army painting, and for a bit of fun, I will be giving Chaplain Grimaldus some love: http://spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/February2_1.jpg.JPG Having read Helsreach, and one of my older armies being Black Templars, I can't resist painting this bad boy. Shameless plug. Way back on the first page, a poster asked me where I kept track of my non-PA stuff. At the time I didn't, but having finished my Death Korps of Krieg recently, I have since posted at least them on Dakka (I don't have many other non-PA projects oddly enough ), so here's a link: 63rd Krieg Panzer Division! The photos are a little older (by about a month) and I have since "tweaked" the bases (mainly to match a friend who I'm playing with in an upcoming doubles tournament) AND I've painted names on the Valkyries and tanks. So I'll be snapping pictures of the updated models sometime soon. Shadey
Recently it came up in another thread that Mephiston really needs an update. They should just copy yours. I aint one to normally offer up gushing praise to a stranger but I really do like your interpretation. So much so I am considering having a go myself, and I don't collect Blood Angels. Thanatos was also pretty cool. Made me think of the old background about many Blood Angels being master artisans with the motto "There is no such thing as too much bling.." I assume you have read the new book, is this hook caried on in the new rendition? If you don't mind me asking. DV8
Just an update. Squeezing in a bit of painting during my lunch break (plus in sort of in-between tasks right now so I can sneak in some painting here and there at work :) ). http://www.spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/February2_2.jpg Going for a very muted/desaturated tone, and I'm using the cover of Helsreach as reference (so his helmet, for example, will be completely black). The black armor is also going to be lighter than just plain black, and since I'm using Charadon Granite as the base tone, has a very strong brown tint. Should be interesting. subtlebrush
Always been a fan of your work. DV8
My pink tabard, for the ladies. And how is that a bad thing? :D It's supposed to be a desaturated red. DV8
More progress on Grimaldus during lunch: polished up the armor, final highlights on the tabards, painted the base, and started basecoating the metallics. http://www.spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/February3_1.JPG http://www.spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/February3_2.JPG http://www.spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/February3_3.JPG http://www.spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/February3_4.JPG I also started gap-filling my Titan last night, but that's pretty boring so no pictures of that. ^_^ DV8 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/200547-dv8s-project-log/page/5/#findComment-2645758 Share on other sites
DV8
Just another update on Grimaldus. MagicMan
Hah, that looks great. And the Pink looks more like a velvet red to me anyway, im sure its probably the lighting. GooseDaMoose
Looking good! I'm reading Helsreach aswell now so it's cool to see him in the flesh/model(?) DV8
Hah, that looks great. And the Pink looks more like a velvet red to me anyway, im sure its probably the lighting. So that black armour is actually brown? Well it's "black", but because of the colors I used (see end of post) there's a bunch of different tones in there (specifically, brown because of Charadon Granite, some khaki/yellow because of Iraqi Sand, etc.) Looking good! I'm reading Helsreach aswell now so it's cool to see him in the flesh/model(?) :) I gotta say though, the way A D-B characterizes Grimaldus I could never see him striking that pose lol You never know. He could be giving some fiery oratory speech, while gesturing in the general direction of the enemy. I love your Sanguinary Guard army DV8, lovely paintjob on them. Definately an army to be proud of, how do you find them to play with? Thanks. It's an interesting army to be sure, and my terrible luck with dice doesn't help when it comes to having to attempt 2+ saves and 4+ feel no pain rolls (on average I fail almost 1/4 of my saves, and I've only successfully passed about 4 or 5 FNP rolls out of about 200?) My Sanguinary Priest is more concerned with being pretty and drinking blood than he actually is with helping his comrades... :)" It's also tricky because the units are worth so much in points, that the loss of a unit or two hurts, a lot. In a recent game where I decided to try DoA against a Space Marine army, I rolled quite poorly on my reserve rolls (Mephiston, Vanguard, and a squad of Sanguinary Guard). The resulting turn saw me lose Dante, a full squad of 5, AND the Priest, meaning the rest of the battle was my just above 1000 pts vs 1750. It wasn't pretty. That said, it's a fun army to play when it works, and the intimidation factor is great! If it isn't too much trouble (really I mean if), could you give us a more detailed break down of your charadon granite chaplain painting recipe? Prime black (I used Krylon Black primer) Basecoat GW Charadon Granite Blend up with Vallejo Iraqi Sand, final highlight is about a 50/50 mix Controlled washes of 50/50 Chaos Black and Charadon Granite Final highlights with 50/50 Charadon Granite and Iraqi Sand, progressively adding Skull White (final mix is about 40/40/20). Shadey
Thank you for the reply. I am thinking that brownish black is perfect for my sisters. As for your luck with dice, I share your pain bro. I was curious once so I rolled a heap of dice and added up the average. Theoretically it should be close to 3.5, I scored 2.2. Further more I played Blood Angels once with the 3rd edition codex. I played versus a friend's Blood Angels. I charged my Honour guard of 5, with around 11 death company into said friends Death Company. (with furious charge getting the charge is a BIG thing). He had less DC than me (around 8 iirc), and on top of my honour guard and the charge, I still lost the combat.
