GAME SUMMIT 2010 (June 12th-13th) OTTAWA, CANADA

GOLDEN BRUSH PAINTING CONTEST sponsored by KNIGHT MODELS

RULES

No restrictions of brand or type of miniature, we want to see a variety!

Figures must be entered in person and be built/constructed by the original artist(s).

Our Large Model category currently welcomes co-op projects, however both artists must be present on the day of entry, and the entry must be noted as a co-op project.

As of right now we do not have a vehicle specific category, however they may be entered under "Large Model" or if they are squadrons of smaller vehicles, may be entered under "Group".

JUDGING

We will be using a grading system that will divide the judging into 2 sections; Technical and Visual. It will be judged by 3-5 Judges to entertain the fairest competition. Scoring is out of 50pts.

The Judges are very experienced in critiquing art and figures, however remember that while this is a competition this is still an event focused on enjoyment! Leniancy will be taken towards Group entries as its normal to have some minor inconsistencies.

Please note that these rules do NOT cater to "realism" or "european style" and that even cartoon style painting can be accurate and outstanding, they deal with quality and commitment to your work.

Technical- 34pts (68%)

Quality of Technique- What level of techniques were used, and were they delivered successfully? Simple techniques done well score higher than advanced techniques done poorly. (12pts)

Accuracy of Lighting- This deals with the accuracy of all lighting effects, whether it be natural lighting for highlighting, or specific Directional or Object Source Lighting effects. (8pts)

Colour- How the colour is used and whether or not it works in correspondence with the specific style or delivery. (focal points, balance and colour composition) (8pts)

Composition- Is the figure composed awkwardly in the scene/base or pulling off an awkward gesture? Sadly this means that some poor sculpts will be penalised in this category if gone un-modified. (6pts)

Visual- 16pts (32%)

Creativity and Originality- Does it have a unique story, composition or rather interesting feature to it? (8pts)

Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder- Even though there may be technical errors or things you dont like, does it impress you? (8pts)
