Rosco151
Some very nice work! You've given me some great ideas for what to do with my Razorback, and the use of the Devestator legs is excellent on the kneeling pose, uses a fairly static part to make a very dynamic model. Sgt. Blank
These are great! Did you do anything to bulk them out? The assault marines look very imposing compared to the Eldar they are killing. winterdyne
No, nothing really major done to the marines; generally they're in fairly 'open' poses which makes them look a little larger, but comparitavely to the Eldar they're pretty chunky anyway. Ariec
Great Conversion... I like it very much... I noticed that you're not using gold rim for the shoulder pad... any particular reason? ... Brother-Captain Sharp
Great Conversion... I like it very much...I noticed that you're not using gold rim for the shoulder pad... any particular reason? ... Sorry for the crappy english :D The trim for the Ultramarines 2nd company can be either gold or yellow, as stated in C:SM. Ultramarines started with yellow trim on GW covers and what not, but sometime in 3rd IIRC they changed it over to gold. While the gold trim has become the most common trim color in player armies, there are plenty of Ultramarines players who still paint theirs as yellow. Â OT: That is a beautiful mini! I love that pose, it's just lovely. The painting is also very great as well. You've mentioned the meaty bitz will be getting a gloss finish, but do you plan on doing more with the blood on the sword? Also, I think the waist might benefit from a little bit of gore, not just gloss. Â Beautiful work! It's painters like you that show the Ultramarine's true potential as an army. Rogan
Sergeant is pretty much done, the meaty bit will be wet-look gloss when it's varnished. http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/ultramarines1/asssquad1/sgt_wip3.jpg   Sorry for doing this to you - but I'll have to copy that! Great idea and superb execution (no pun intended. Or... is it?)! winterdyne
It's been frighteningly hot in my painting area over the past few days, so not too much to show; the assault squad is 90% done, should be finishing them over the next day or two. These are done and varnished. winterdyne
...and the assault squad is done. Really quite happy with these.  http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/ultramarines1/asssquad1/squad_done1_1024.jpg  http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/ultramarines1/asssquad1/squad_done2_1024.jpg  If anyone wants to see a particular marine, ask - I have individual photos of them all but don't feel like putting together a huge montage. :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202975-ultramarines-part-deux/page/2/#findComment-2451124 Share on other sites
winterdyne
Scouts. Next week I should finish up the 'speeder storm and it's removable crew / swappable equipment. Divergent Reality
The chainsword to the face is great. It shows you how down and dirty chain weapons can be. winterdyne
http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/ultramarines1/scouts/speeder_ruined.jpg  Bugger.  That was *not* the word I said when this happened. 2 days work, not including cleanup/assembly pooched. Luckily GW will replace the purity seal and speeder, so it's just time cost really. But hey, still a pain to do all the conversion work again. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202975-ultramarines-part-deux/page/2/#findComment-2461564 Share on other sites

Yogi
varnish has trashed it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202975-ultramarines-part-deux/page/2/#findComment-2461730 Share on other sites
winterdyne
Yep. Tried all the tricks I know - tamiya thinner to break up the varnish and disperse the frosty matting agent, glossing and revarnishing. No luck, so now it's being stripped. Hopefully it'll come clean enough to salvage, but still, it's a pain in the ass - varnish is kinda the one thing you want to rely on. I'm probably going to move back to using klear / tamiya flat base as a topcoat, just preferred the convenience of a rattlecan.
