Ultramarines part Deux

Recommended Posts

Great Conversion... I like it very much...

I noticed that you're not using gold rim for the shoulder pad... any particular reason?

... Sorry for the crappy english :D

The trim for the Ultramarines 2nd company can be either gold or yellow, as stated in C:SM. Ultramarines started with yellow trim on GW covers and what not, but sometime in 3rd IIRC they changed it over to gold. While the gold trim has become the most common trim color in player armies, there are plenty of Ultramarines players who still paint theirs as yellow.

OT: That is a beautiful mini! I love that pose, it's just lovely. The painting is also very great as well. You've mentioned the meaty bitz will be getting a gloss finish, but do you plan on doing more with the blood on the sword? Also, I think the waist might benefit from a little bit of gore, not just gloss.

Beautiful work! It's painters like you that show the Ultramarine's true potential as an army.

Sergeant is pretty much done, the meaty bit will be wet-look gloss when it's varnished.

Sorry for doing this to you - but I'll have to copy that!

Great idea and superb execution (no pun intended. Or... is it?)!

It's been frighteningly hot in my painting area over the past few days, so not too much to show; the assault squad is 90% done, should be finishing them over the next day or two. These are done and varnished.

If anyone wants to see a particular marine, ask - I have individual photos of them all but don't feel like putting together a huge montage. :-)

Bugger.

That was *not* the word I said when this happened. 2 days work, not including cleanup/assembly pooched. Luckily GW will replace the purity seal and speeder, so it's just time cost really. But hey, still a pain to do all the conversion work again. :D

Yep. Tried all the tricks I know - tamiya thinner to break up the varnish and disperse the frosty matting agent, glossing and revarnishing. No luck, so now it's being stripped. Hopefully it'll come clean enough to salvage, but still, it's a pain in the ass - varnish is kinda the one thing you want to rely on. I'm probably going to move back to using klear / tamiya flat base as a topcoat, just preferred the convenience of a rattlecan.

Here's the speeder storm, finished:

Without guys on board - note the crate and binoculars - these plug holes that the scouts are pinned to the speeder with.
