Preheresy Landspeeder

Is all my money enough for this model? I love 2ed conversions of current models. Like that mkI landraider convo from the new kit! I love this! It makes me remember how much of a total pain in my ass that metal land speeder was back in the day. I seemed to drop mine a lot... This one would be harder to break because it's plastic :P

I'm currently in the process of doing up a 3rd speeder, using even more 'old tech'. Admittingly, reference has been hard to find, so I'm basing this off the general shape. I edited a lot from the references found (such as wings, rail etc...), trying to tie this in more with my mk2 and modern day speeder. It shares components from them, I guess in part as it makes maintenance easier.

Wow. Fantastic conversions!! I'll be inspiring myself with what youve done here, I own 4 of the metal bricks and I wanted to update them, mainly redoing the engine section to look more up to date, I think that emulating your work will suffice. As for the rouge trader speeder, always hated that thing, but your version is looking good! Congratulations on a job well done!

Hobo,

Appreciate the image. Thanx. Ive found a number of such images, but the primary issue is the design of the curve of the front nose. Eventually I came up with what I have now, using existing parts to 'simulate' what was there. Still, if I can improve on it, I prollie might ^_^

Anyways, here are what I have so far. I'm still wondering what arm to give the mk1 driver...

Someone asked about the joint. It is pretty much a simple box built over the sensor bit.

sorry if this is too late :/

but my only crit on the latest speeder, is that in your version they are leaning forward

inn the artwork they are leaning back into their seats and it looks much faster and more natural, the look a little weird is all, sitting up straight whilst going 100 mph or whatever might be straining even for a marine :D

just a thought

@wiplash

Yep, that is something to be noted. The design of the seats themselves are angled backwards, like that of the original, but the position of the guys are more upright. This is in part based off the current line. They are pretty much upright with vertical seats. I have pushed them back a little bit more than what they were designed with but not by much. On the contrary, it kind of makes them look like they are engaging the enemy with the guns more IMHO. If they look like they can be pinned when going fast, it would explain why 12+" means they can't shoot...:(

I think it's stated in the current codex entry for the Land Speeder that the armour was added to earlier patterns of speeders to protect the comparatively delicate flight instumentation as full power armour provided more than adequate protection for the pilot and co-pilot.

According to Imperial Armour II the Tempest (the FW one) forgoes the normal long range reconnisance and patrol role of the lighter speeders, fulfilling the role of a pure gunship instead. The Tempest was pioneered by the White Scars during the 'Evacuation of Barac' and was designed to provide fast moving support to attack bike squadrons. A flight of three Tempests was even credited with bringing down a Traitor Reaver Titan during the action.

The heavier armour and weapons loadout on the Tempest affected the manouverability speeder so it was decided that it would be crewed by a single Marine assisted by slaved targeting systems and a dedicated machine spirit. In the hands of a veteran pilot (again according to the current codex) the agility of the more mainstream patterns of Land Speeder more than compensates for them having lighter armour.

Aye, but that's just fluff to justify the models, as Afghanistan has shown light and fast isn't always a defence. :)

What you need is fast, manoeuvrable and tough as old boots - an Imperial Governership to the first person to design one! :D

(still an absolutely great model though - Imperial RnD policy aside)

Okay, I /love/ the MKI Speeder. :tu: I realised that I took away the front "bumper" and added the "arrow" at the front on my Sammael speeder, but it doesn't look quite so much like the 2E ones as much as I'd like. I might have to mine your builds for ideas.

If you look from the top view, the mk2 front section. I added some plasticard to it, to widen the profile of the front plate. It now lines up with the back section. If you were to check your normal speeders, there is more of a slight gradient, tapering to the front. The old metal mk2s had a large front too, so I was basing it on that.

Ah, I understand now, thanks a lot! :D

Also, I think I have a MK1 Speeder stripped and disassembled somewhere, would it be helpful if I took some pics of any parts?
