Mech BA VS panzers

Recommended Posts

I regularly face a BA player who i swear has half the chapters worth of minis.

with the release of the new dex he has gone list building crazy trying out all sorts of ideas.

He has done an all jump list, storm raven list and now he is working on mechanised infantry.

His list consists of assault and tac sqyuads in las/plas razorbacks backed up by baal preds, vindicators and some vanguard vets.

This game was-

.2,250 points

.12" deployment

.kill points

His army-

My army-

I won the roll off and made him go first keeping most of my army in reserve.

The game started out poorly for me. i lost many troops to failed cover saves even in a fortified ruin. i also didn't manage to do much to his vehicles other than keeping him from shooting at the outset.

My reserves also started to come in piecemeal.

It wasn't uinitl turn 4 that i turned the game around. locking up most of his units in CC with dreads. my scouts amazingly outflanked and shot up a tac squad, then assaulted it and beat them in CC.

:D:

My MOTF paid for himself destroying both baals before dying to a las cannon shot.

When the game ended he was left with

.2 razorback

.a vindicator

.5 tactical marines

.tycho

I had

.4 assault marines

.3 venerable dreads

.2 ironclads

.4 scouts

Giving me 7 kill points to his 6 for a hard fought minor victory on my part.

Once again venerable status won me the game with no less than 5 re-rolled destroyed results keeping my dreads alive and in the fight.

Good looking armies! What's the fluff behind your Panzers?

They are primarily a fleet based chapter with strong ties to the mechanicum. with only one recruiting world.

Their combat doctrine, fleet based deployment and recruitement world environment favor an air cavalry approach to combat. as such they have abandoned the use of all tracked or wheeled ground vehicles, instead favoring rapid strike deployment via thunderhawk or drop pod.

With space limitations and production facilities what they are, they primarly build and maintain only dreadnoughts, land speeders, drop pods ansd standard thunderhawks , also with such a small half strength chapter nothing is wasted. any battle brother who falls and cannot fight on in the flesh lives again as an ironclad dreadnought. those who distinguish themselves in this role or who fall valiantly from other companies are granted the greatest honor to serve in the illustrious first company composed entrirely of venerable dreadnoughts. Such time and care is spent in the production and maintenance of dreadnoughts that even terminator armor is not used as it would draw away to many resources.

I like your background. It's very well thought out and it looks like it works pretty well. Look out for Eldar EQ armies that can bring 20+ Dark Lances to bear on Turn 1!!!

You would love the new Blood Angels Codex that allows 11 Dreads: 3 Elite Furiosos/Libby Dreads; 5 Troop DC Dreads (with mandatory 25 Death Company, not scoring due to Rage); and 3 Heavy Dreads (not Ironclads).

Yeah i thought that might be fun, i mean who can say no to jump pack librarian dreads. unfortunately it doesn't really fit the fluff for my chapter. So i spend my time beating down the blood angels instead.

;) :D

I don't know I would bring that many Dark lances... although you would have the points... I mean ok the 11 raiders would have them but I like disintergrators on my Ravagers... I mean 9 plasma cannon shots a turn or 27 AP3 bolter shots... and if I was moving my mounted infantry wouldn't be able to fire... splinter cannons and blasters and horror/terrorfexs yeh!

Anyway as soon as someone starts turning up with a 20 DL list just get the Black Templars codex and take blessed Land Raiders and watch the DE cry!

My first thought was, "I want to field a dreadnought army too!" because of how cool they look mobbed up like that. Then I imagined that many Chaos Dreadnoughts in one place...

You, sir, are my hero for today for having a really awesome homebrew concept and sticking to it.

That is why Spearhead rules are good. One "Ambush" spearhead consisting of 3x Dreads with Plasma cannons. Because of infiltrating/outflanking (I forget which they have), you are closest to your opponent for Fire Frenzy, and because you are a unit, you cannot hit your own dreadnoughts!

I think it all depends on the persons attitude towards the game. i have been playing 40K for about 10 years, not as long as many, but i have still managed to chew through 7 armies and way to much money before i realised something about the game-don't take it to seriously.

Some people enjoy the models, the converting, the playing and yes even the competition, but given the cost involved and especially issues with "grey " rules writng, codex creep and rules made to sell new models. one can hardly look at 40K and say-"gosh it has airtight rules, and good in-game balance"

Because i play 40K every weekend(3 games just yesterday) at my LGS along with all my other game systems, i like it for what it is-social recreation with good community support, large player base and generally fun to play.

As such the idea of a themed force or a "cool looking" force is alot more important to me than a double lash chaos, super MC bug etc... WAC army.
