Land Speeders

Recommended Posts

So I am getting ready to buy a unpainted White Scars force frommy freind, he's pretty much selling me 2 Ravenwing battle forces but the problem is I'm not going to use attack bikes or nornal landspeeders in my army. So I have 2 questions, 1 would it be that hard to convert a Land Speeder into a Land Speeder Storm? and 2 can Attack Bikes be made without the sidecar so I would have extra bikes? Is there a hole I would have to cover for it to be a normal bike?

Talking from memory, haven't assembled those models for some time:

1.- LSS is quite a bit longer than a normal LS, besides having 3 engines...I'd say yes, you would have to convert quite a bit and basically I see as the hardest part cutting properly the speeder so you can fin "extension" plasticard.

2.- AB sidecar is attached to the bike from below, so I'd say you wouldn't have to cover up anything... but I'm only 95% sure. Check out the sprues!

My storm is converted from a standard speeder (I don't have an actual storm model yet).

It's a basic stretched job. The new cut of speeder makes the job slightly easier. So yes, it can be done. It was just done with plasticard sheet and some sprue mostly. The vectored thrusters underneath it are courtesy of a spare Starship Troopers Marauder bigfoot suit back piece (as the bigfoot mortar back replaces it).

and painted up.

As for the Attack bikes, the attachment point is under the footplate for the bike.

Just to clarify, the attack bike is a completely normal bike, with an additional sprue to make the sidecar. The Ravenwing boxset contains 6 Dark Angel bikes, a Dark Angel attack bike and a Dark Angel Landspeeder (possibly Sammael's pimped-up one); but this is actually 7 standard Space Marine bikes,a Space Marine sidecar, a standard Space Marine landspeeder and 3 Dark Angel conversion sprues.

I play vanilla biker marines, and have bought 2 Ravenwing sets, giving the DA sprues to friends.

If you've done any converting before then doing a storm should be fairly easy.

I made mine almost like a "huey" helicopter. The official model doesn't look good to me. The scouts would be hanging on and standing up on rails the entire time. I just don't believe it would work.

Here you can see where the plasticard was added.

And then painted.

Ok thats good on the attack bike.

I like that, may I ask what you used to make the center section?

The center section is just thin plasticard. I had some plastic square stock and used that for the top brace (it blends in with the center divider of the pilots compartment), and some round tubing underneath for strength.

It's kind of difficult to explain how to do it. Here are some different views of it so you might get a better idea.

Hopefully that helps. I know I should have done a piece by piece when I was building it, but just never did.

The attack bike side car can be attached to any bike and is a separate piece altogether. Don't worry there isn't anything to cover up.

Might I ask though, why? I am curious as to why you wouldn't want attack bikes...40 points for a highly mobile multi melta or heavy bolter? I mean sure it isn't the prettiest model but tactically it is one of the best parts of bike squads...

Interestedly,

Arnil
