NExOBLIVISCARIS
im putting a 10 man sternguard squad in my army and so far i have 10 guards with a sargent that has a power fist and melta bombs what else is good on them?
vharing
I run a squad with 2-3 combi meltas and 2 heavy flamers. I play mostly against nids. It is good against both MCs and swarms. Loaded up in a rhino or LRC it can kick a lot of a**.
Massawyrm
Run 9 instead of 10, then put them in a pod with a Sanguinary Priest. Combi-plasma and Plasma Cannons for loadouts. They are magnificent.
the jeske
10 with 6-8 combi meltas . combat squading one the turn they land . not bad in alfa strike builds , because they pop two tanks each. sadly BAs cant play with 2x10 4 melta 4 plasma build. WarpWhisper
Don't put melta bombs on a p.fist sgt unless you're going to be facing a lot of stationary Land raiders; in almost all cases making three power fist attacks is superior to making that single melta bomb roll. NExOBLIVISCARIS
i was thinking about dropping the stern guard for a full vanguard squad with 4 power weapons because the rest of my army is dante,2 sanguinary guard squads, a priest and terminators and i was planning on deep striking dante with a priest and and some guards, poping a transport with 2-3 infernus pistol shots then assualting the ocupants with the vanguards in the same turn they both deep strike plus the priest would be close enough to give the squad the bonuses. sound good? One problem: Once Dante join's the Vanguard, the squad looses heroic intervention. Yes, veterans loose their veteran skill when the most veteran living space marine in the universe joins them.. It's just an issue of balance. Besides, he didn't say Dante was joining the vanguard. I bolded the part were he stated Dante was running with a Sanguinary Guard. It seems his plan is to use the Sang Guard and Dante to pop open a transport, and use the Vanguard to assault the people inside.
NExOBLIVISCARIS
yes what he said plus they sanguinary gaurds have the banner so with my current army set up i would charge the occupants with 25 S5 I5 power weapon attacks. with only 5 guys in the squad. i was thinking of adding more to
JamesI
How do you get 25 power weapon attacks? Is this from the Vanguard? (I probably just misunderstood your post).

SnorriSnorrison
Vanguards do not have access to the Banner, and the Sanguinary Guard don´t receive the +1 attack for pistol + cc weapon as their weapons are two-handed. To get them 5 attacks, you should have the Sanguinor around. Back to topic: I think the best Sternguard setup is a 5-6 men squad, powerweapons and jumppacks all around, descending from the sky and charging the enemy. Or just call them Vanguard. While the Sternguard might be effective, I still think that they don´t really fit to the aggressive nature of the Blood Angels. Sure, you can pod them and blow up whatever comes your way, but you will probably lose that unit afterwards....a circumstance that I find unacceptable. Well, at least for fluffy games. JamesI
NEx, the banner does not provide +1 attack to nearby units, just to the unit carrying the banner.

BLACK BLΠFLY
I agree with Snorri's assessment. The good thing is you have lots of options with the new codex so have some fun and knock yourself out. :P 0b :)
