Apocalypse game + Ultramarines = win

I had a good old time yesterday, having organized a decent Apoc game with some club members. 12,000 points a side, 7 players total. The sides were: 2 Grey Knight, Ultramarines; and Orks, Traitor Guard, Eldar, and Fallen Dark Angels. Since my teammate was lacking points, I was able to field 5700 points...that's a lot of blue happiness! Here are some highlights:

- Turn 1 saw a Rokk drop on 10 Knights and a Dreadnought. Squuiiissh!

- Their minefields managed to only kill themselves. A pair of guardsmen stepped on landmines while reacting to my assault, suckers.

- My two triple lascannon predators fired ineffectively for three turns at the stompa (there was a warhound titan in the way for all of those turns) but then on the fourth turn, one hit spot on through the mek boy save with two beams getting through, dishing out two structure points of damage, blowing away the deth kannon, and stunning the driver. I liked 6's that turn apparently...

- Deep striking Deathwing terminators got a plasma surprise when they got disruption beaconed. They got moved near a double mystic Inquisitor and clumped up. Three squads so close together each took a full strength plasma blast from the titan. Two survived, though the first scatter came back and killed a few friendlies. Teehee...

- Two tactical squads managed to Flank March far up the field (they had a disruption beacon too) and shoot/assault the seer council. Between the 20 of them they killed 5 warlocks, a farseer, and Eldrad to boot! It did help that once the warlocks died, Eldrad's powers got psychic hooded and the other one boxed and took a wound from Perils. Eldrad was power fisted by my sergeant.

- A heroic entrance by the heroes of the chapter on the right flank completely annihilated their assault force that was coming for our objectives. Of course, when it's an Ancients Assault Force, and the Masters of the Chapter arriving in their pimp-mobile that's going to happen. 6 honor guard, a chaplain, 4 captains, and Marneus Calgar (with the Legion Relic) in a land raider and 3 dreadnoughts. Calgar himself cleared out 10 Deathwing terminators, Belial, Sammael (in the landspeeder), and a dreadnought without taking a single wound. Only had to make one save in the first place...

- Amusingly, at the end of the game they were trying to contest one objective there with a guard sergeant. I sent three captains to deal with the issue...

- On the other flank, the assault squad and chaplain eventually chewed through a 40-man blob of guardsmen (and commissar), setting them to flee when they were down to just 6 men. I lost 5 in total, over 5-6 rounds of combat. They then proceeded to jump behind some Kans and wreck one and stun another with their guns before charging in and wiping them out, losing two in the process. They would've gone further but their rampage was ended by a convenient Bladestorm. Took 15 wounds, 5 on each remaining. Each failed only a single save and fell (chaplain only had one left).

I had had 100ish marines on the table, and 13-14 vehicles. So much blue!

At the end of the game, I personally held four of our five objectives, while they only had one. Total kill tally (for me) was 80ish guardsmen in two platoons, 4 Kans, a few nob bikers, a few nobs, 2 structure points off the stompa, 3 Kommandoes, a weapon off the falcon (with scout bolt pistols, teehee!), 9 Striking Scorpions, 6 Warp Spiders, 2 Autarchs, 10 Pathfinders, a dreadnought, 10 Deathwing terminators, Belial, Sammael, and Eldrad. Not bad if I may say so!

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally, some pictures! Not many, because the camera died before our first turn...argh!

This one gives a good idea of where things happened. My Masters came out on the lower right between the wall and the crater, while the dreadnoughts were a little farther up the side. Everything there died (except my stuff ;)). The far right corner was mainly left alone, while the far left corner saw vicious combat between tactical marines and a seer council (which my marines eventually won).

One set allowed the Titan to annihilate deep strikers (the mystics), one set got annihilated by a lucky Rok scatter, both land raiders ended up dying eventually, but the 20 GK inside killed any foolish to get near. IST's helped clear off the objective in the middle left of the first picture, kinda. So overall they did decently, but yes I and the Ultramarines went smash-face on everything else, haha.

@GC08 - yep, scouts! They even managed to shoot off the pulse laser of that Falcon before they got shot by guided Dark Reapers. Yay rear armor!
