Sorry I wasn't clear on that aspect of the trenches, they are a completely different piece of terrain from the fortress. It will be used as a landing pad away from the Fortress.

If I had more room on top of the Fortress I was considering using the trenches as running between the landing pads to represent sunken walkways but I really am running out of room and I dont want to make the Fortress any bigger then it already is.

So yeah, the Fortress will be one massive piece of terrain (which will be modular) whilst the Trench system in the hill is going to be a seperate peice all together.

As for your idea of base defense, I am definitely thinking of placing 'quad' guns in the form of mini guns on each bastion, Rictus over at Apoc 40k has some fantastic custom models which I might grab. I think that the idea of mini guns representing quad guns works well, since 4 twin linked shots are nice... however if I could get punisher cannons up there... now that would be awesome!!!

Ah...I thought those looked familiar. I frequent his site as he's a rather interesting character. He seems to get good reviews from the stuff he produces for his friends.

Also, anyone who would build (even if it is a commission) Ork Land carrier for Deff Coptas is worth keeping an eye on. :P

Cheers,

Just a very quick update before I leave for the weekend of gaming. I ended up putting a Chaplain in Terminator armour with dual Power Weapons (Maul and Axe) in my list and had to quickly model something up as my current Termie Chaplain only had lightning claws.

Finally completed the first of the Dreadclaws, got side tracked with doing some more IG stuff and then also was contemplating oh how to finish off the Dreadclaw. In the end I decided to glue the main arms in place, even though they could retract and extend quite nicely, I wasnt confident that the arms would be able to support the entire body in a gaming environment (I think it would fall over!). And also, considering I am using them as Drop Pod counts as, I dont need the arms to extend.

The removal of the chaos logos was easier then I thought and I really like the end product. I plan on having the Templar cross in the place of where the chaos star was on the bottom half of the boy. All of the sharp angular and studs actually fits well with my Crusades look and so they will all stay. I am pretty happy overall with it and will most likely go ahead and get more to completely outfit my troops with drop pods (dreadclaws), whilst leaving my three Dreadnoughts in Drop Pods.

Very nice looking.

I think you made the right decision regarding the legs. One my most important rules for all of my "toys" is that they have to be sturdy. I'm not above reinforcing something if I think it is questionable because at the end of the day, there is nothing more disappointing than having to repair a model that you invested time in. I sold off two Vultures that I had in my Elysian army because the tail assemblies kept breaking. It turns out that FW re-did the kit and made it sturdier, so at some point I'll need to get a couple.

I'm curious to see what it looks like with the BT heraldry as the pointy bits still remind me of the bad guys. I know, you're crusade likes to take a walk on the wild side <cue Lou Reed> and I think that a black vehicle will mute some of that, but I'm intrigued to see what the overall effect will end up being.

Cheers,

  • 3 months later...

Its been a while since I did something Black Templar as I wanted to completely finish the Imperial Guard component first which is now done, and I then promised myself that I would get my table terrain sorted.

I have made some good progress and in between some tank games I decided to finish off the Dreadclaw which only needed the side fins and some Templar icons attached;

Ok, so might need some help and suggestions here.

I have decided to go ahead and build a Terminator Techmarine, previously Black Templar were the only Codex (that I know of) who were able to field such a unit. And that was largely the reason why I hadnt bothered, as most likely the BT would lose that ability in the next codex.

Now however, the Legion Space Marine Codex allows the deployment of a Terminator Techmarine via the Consul option in the HQ section. So it is a little more attractive to do the build (even though the unit in game terms is a point sink).

The biggest problem I am facing is how to build him. I have thought about it for a bit and have decided that I might try and convert one using the Tartaros TDA. The main reason is that my current PA Techmarine is quite lean and not very bulky so the Tart armour might stay in line with that look.

I was going to replace one of the legs with a bionic replacement and then try and hunt down some Ad Mech style weapons. Plus I have a full servo harness bits coming but how to attach them is going to be the big thing.

Thoughts anyone?

Interesting challenge...let's see, the obvious places to attach the servo harness to me are the top of the torso above the back grill...oh, wait a minute, you said Tartaros, didn't you? :)

Ok, after looking at the FW site for some reference shots, I'd be really hesitant to chop up/modify a Tartaros fig. First off, there's no obvious connection points and secondly, due to all the curved surfaces, it's liable to look a little wonky. So my choice would be to use the standard termie figure. Using that, I'd cut a lot of the back grill bit out, and attempt to set the servo harness mount recessed into the top of the torso.

I don't know if that would work as I don't have the harness bits, but I'd start there.

That's quite the modeling challenge you have in front of you, which isn't surprising you being you. I have every confidence that you will make him look awesome and am very curious to see what you come up with.

Cheers,

Here is the first of the new Crusader 'Sergeants', I know we dont have sergeants but I strongly suspect that we will in the future and since the army also double (triples?) for a Tyrants Legion and Legion Space Marine army I needed to try and make them a little more ornate. These guys will be the sergeants of both the CC Crusader squads and the Fire Support squads, with left overs and other not needed making up a second Sword Brethren Squad.

The models will be able to be fielded with:

Power Fist

Power Sword

Power Axe

Heavy Chainsword (Legion Space Marine, Tactical Squad Sergeant option)

Chainsword

and

Bolt Pistol

Plasma Pistol

Power Sword

Power Axe

If you want to keep him legal, remember that the harness and TDA can't be put together. You would have to leave him with just a single servo arm.

Too true, I am thinking of the Jump Pack and full servo harness, which I am not too keen to do.

Yeah I have just finished doing a heap of magentised arms. Bascially using all of the BP & CCW squads are regular Legion Cohorts, I am using my Neophytes as Recons and my bolters as Seekers and Breachers, plus the two support option, the heavy and special. This requires a LOT of arm swaps but with careful planning I think I have done it. Keeping in mind I have 90 Crusaders to play with in forming up squads.

I think have Rapiers already.

My Sword Brethren (I have two types) are going to be used as Veteran and Command squads, and Terminators will be used... well as terminators, same as Jump troops, bikes and the IC's (Apoth, Tech etc).

I dont anticipate that I will use Destroyers or Seekers often, I am focusing on the vehicles as I am leaning towards Apoc atm.

I will hopefully have some pics of the three army formats soon; BT, Tyrant's Legion and Legion Space Marine.

Well..... that is an experience, not sure I will be building another Titan, I just dont think I can do the model justice. Managed to get the feet done without too much worry, not looking forward to the legs though!

The upper body is also largely complete, I opted to enclose the main central section (never intended it to come apart to look at the pretty detail on the inside). However I am thinking of having the top cover for the servitors replaced with grill plating so you can see them, they are pretty cool. Also magnetised the Void Shield generators.

Still have to do the weapons and lots of green stuffing. Lots of gaps and minor not fits which could be down to my inexperience with modeling on large kits or just a bad cast, but for the price I am not complaining.

I have having the head removable along with the crew. The plan is to use the Titan as terrain when it it is not being used in an Apoc game. Have it as a dormant Titan shut down or have the cockpit ejected with the crew being an objective to rescue, something like that. Seems a shame to have such an awesome model and only play it once or twice a year.

Still left to do....

  • 2 weeks later...

I have affixed a few bits of iconography over the torso and weapons, I also changed the layout of the pipes. I didnt want to attach the pipes to the cockpit or weapons which are all removable and can rotate. So instead I ran them from the main cockpit housing to the rear, like a power cable and then some more from the weapon mounts to the exhaust vents like a heat venting pipe. I am pretty happy with the look.

The legs were actually quite fun to put together once the routine was happening, it was a bit of a holding breath when the hip joints went into place to see if it was all level. I think it was about as close as I could have gotten without using spirit levels, and once the feet are based it will ensure that they stay even.

The most important aspect though is that the torso is level when spun 360 degrees, it doesnt go up and down (well not that I could notice with the naked eye anyway).

I removed the cable hooks from the groin guard and replaced it with tow hooks from the vehicle sprue, I also placed two on each of the weapons. The plan is to then have two Black Templar banners from the guns and one from the torso painted and they have tow eyes on them from which I will run modeling chain. This will allow the banners to be hung from any gun and/or the groin plate. I am considering making a third larger banner to hang from the groin plate, similar to the FW pics.

Its big.....
