Kildrech Crusade Modeling Diary

One thing is for certain, the scale of your crusade never disappoints. That titan looks like a nightmare to assemble, must take hours upon hours just preparing the parts.

And I see you're no slouch when it comes to having options for him either.

Incidentally do you have total tally of what's included in your crusade?

Hmmmm, well the Templars have certainly grown since the opening post for the diary, plus they aren't just alone know, the Kildrech Crusade is actually a force made up of the Templars and the Imperial Guard. It can be fielded as either Black Templar, Imperial Guard or Tyrant's Legion (my current favorite!). In addition the army can also be fielded (with a lot of arm swaps) as a Legion Space Marine army.

One model.... sooooo many arms.

This guys is one of eight who are the linch pins to the armies ability to change from Black Templar to Tyrants Legion to Legion Space Marine with minimal redundant models.

In Black Templar they are the special/heavy weapon marines in Crusader Squads, primarily the long range fire support ones. With the ability to wield Plasma Gun, Melta Gun, Flamer, MultiMelta, Plasma Cannon, Lascannon, Missile Launcher or Heavy Bolter.

In Tyrants Legion they are the special weapon marines in the Legion Cohorts. With the ability to wield Heavy Bolter, Missile Launcher, Power Weapon (Axe or Sword), Plasma Gun, Melta Gun or Flamer.

In the Legion Space Marine lists they can be either a Support Squad (heavy or special) or plain Tactical marines with the ability to wield any combination of the above, plus bolters if there is no need for special weapons.

It was a logistical nightmare to get the right number of weapons and shoulder pads but it has worked out well in the end... just glad those guys are one! Poor old Korocite gets them now, I am sure he loves painting Templar arms by now!

Now onto the next ten Assault Marines and maybe play around with the secondary Command Squad.

So with Cancon over and the Apoc army back home I thought I may as try an get the entire army out of storage and sort it out before repacking it. It was a good chance to take some pics of it as well.

The army is only missing a few items which are currently being made;

4 Rapier Destroyers

10 Assault Marines

5 Jetbikes

5 Servitors

1 TDA Techmarine

1 Malcador with Marine crew (for the Legion list)

1 Emperors Champion (in Tartaros armour)

1 Marshal in Mk III Power armour

8 Veteran/Sword Brethren (same as the Sergeants in the squads)

1 Command Predator

Each time I have sat down to try and work out the total points I get distracted in one way or another. But with a quick calculation at bare bones (virtually no upgrades) you be looking at 8,500 points. You could easily stretch that out to 10,000 by upgrading things with extras, like PotMS on Razorbacks and Predators plus grenades on infantry and extra weapons etc.

Probably another month and the final models will be done and painted (if some arrive in time) and then it will just be a matter of adding things as Forge World release cool new ones. I have resisted both the Spartan and the Storm Eagle thus far and dont feel a need to get them, however if I managed to track down a cheap 2nd hand one, that may change.

Let the Apoc battles begin!!!

Brilliant looking army!

How did your Warhound and Caestus perform? I've heard mixed things about Warhounds, though that was back in late 5th. There's no doubt that he looks just awesome in your BT livery.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have up next.

Cheers,

The Assault Ram is awesome, it has now played in a dozen games and has only been destroyed once! I absolutely love the thing.

I did have three and I assembled one and sold the other two, which I regret a little, however I think three would be over kill (except in Apoc), but it might still happen. The main thing is that I dont have the cargo to put in another two. That is the most important thing, have a cargo worth taking.

Once that thing unloads the ten terminators, the opponent most make some pretty hard choices, fire at the Assault Ram which is now in Hover mode and capable of serious agility, good position with a Magna Melta and the ability to Ram!! or focus on the Ten Terminators that are now tearing a whole in the front line.

Because most of the time the terminators will be engaged in combat they will then focus fire on the Assault Ram leaving the rest of the army completely untouched! If they take down the ram... honestly so what, it has done its job, it has flown in, fired its Fury Rockets, fired a Magna Melta, off loaded the terminators. All it can do now is fire its Magna Melta and ram things (not insignifcant) but 90% of its job is complete, if they want to spend all of their fire trying to take down the AV 13, 4 HP, 5++ front armour skimmer, go for it!

Any way I rant.... I like the Ram ;-)

As for the Warhound, it is FUN. It may not be the most efficient way to spend 750 pts, but it is great fun. Titans are a little (=a lot) less invincible now. Glances will kill them equally as easily as Pen's, Void shields can only be regenerated on a 5 or a 6 and you only get to roll a D6 PER Structure point. If you are facing a Guard or a Tau enemy and they get first turn, you can bet good money that your Titan wont survive, but it will absorb a LOT of fire.

If you do survive or you get first turn, let the fun begin. Dropping a 10" St10 AP1 Ordnance blast on things is hilariously fun, D Weapons are as well, but need to pick their targets carefully so as not to waste their potency.

These are just my very limited opinions with my extremely limited experience, however I enjoyed using both, will try to use the Ram until my mates hate me and throw the Titan in every game I can (it is modeled so that I can use it as Terrain as a dormant Titan or a cockpit as a VIP rescue).

Brethren, due to a recent occurance I have decided to remove myself from these forums indefinitely. I wish you all the best in your future crusades and gaming endeavors.

If you wish to contact me, I can often be found on the WargamerAU and Apocalypse 40k forums under the same user name.

Greetings brethren, it has been a while.....

A couple of guys contacted me in the other forums and asked me to pop back into the forum and update my thread as there have been some recent updates which they thought people would appreciate. A number of the older Brothers would remember my saga of a Templar fortress which slipped out of grasp not once, but twice. Earlier this year I managed to finally secure it after some complicated logistics and transporting of a 75kg piece of custom made terrain over 1,000kn in the back of a four wheel drive.

The Crusade too has grown, morphing into a Legion more and more. The army is now fully geared to play as a 30K Legion list, a 40K Templar list and a 40k Tyrants Legion list (with my IG component), plus a 15,000+ Apocalypse horde.

The below pics are every painted Templar model I currently have deployed onto a my 6'x4' gaming table in, on, around, within the Templar Fortress. Every Heavy Weapon, Special Weapon, Sergeant, Captain, Assault Marines and Terminator is fully magnetised to allow weapon swaps from one army list to another.

Time to start building shelves.....

Well, this black crosses in white circles on a red background surely don't look anything like nazi swastikas.

The heraldry on the land speeders on p. 58 of our codex don't look anything like the nazi reichsadler/parteiadler, either. Nor do the colors of the black templar (black, white, and red) resemble the colors of the third reich (red, white, and black). And it's not like the Imperium is a paranoid, ruthless, totalitarian regime or anything that crusades through the galaxy trying to wipe out "inferior" races and cleanse planets for living space (Lebensraum) with legions of genetically superior übermensch (which would definitely not be space marines).

There are plenty of other historical inspirations behind the Imperium of Man: imperial Rome, the Inquisition, Stalinist Soviet Union ... None of them are particularly nice, but the Third Reich is among the foremost, and the banners suit the army perfectly.

It's a great-looking army, Dono -- even if you prefer to haunt elsewhere, please come back and post whatever images you can whenever you have the time! And kudos on finally attaining the fortress -- it's beautiful.

~K

edit: I would find a thoroughly Nazi-themed army rather offensive, but a nod here and there to the historical inspirations behind the game is a good thing, just as the warhound banners bring to mind the heraldry of the Middle East Crusades.

@ Krikey - Thanks mate, agree with your words on the heraldry of things, its a dark Imperium for sure.  The IG are also well under way with all but the Leman Russ now built, and I am part way into that build as I type, diary has been updated. A good chunk of the built stuff is coming back this weekend from the painter, once it is here I am going to really struggle for storage space, but I will be able to field one hell of a Tyrants Legion army!!!

@ DasPanzerIstUber - Hey Das, the gold drop pod is an old Forge World Dread Claw Assault Pod, they have removed them from sale now, guess they will release new ones with the Heresy lines. I removed the majority of the Chaos iconography from it but left some bolts and suchlike to trace the decline of the Crusade. In regular 40k games I just use it as a counts as Drop Pod for the HQ units, however in 30K games, loyalists can actually buy Dreadclaw so I can use it for what it is; an over priced transport vehicle with no guns!!

Some conversion parts arrived from Blood and Skulls today which means I can start work on my Templar Fellblade!!

The skull head is a shaved down Chaos head (lots of my bits are chaos....) I think it was the one which had 'wing' kind of things on it. The books, I am pretty sure I got them from Maxmini as part of a small pack of things like candles and suchlike.

Thank you, I might 'borrow' that idea. if that's ok, down the road.

For a comparison shot, the fortress just got deployed in an Apoc game over the weekend, the table is it sitting on is 12' x 8' .... sadly the Fortress, and the Tyrant Templar defending it, fell to Xenos and Chaos insurgents.

Brother Dono,

It is good to have you back. It is a pity we do not have you along for ETL2, but your presence is always inspiring. I'm also glad to see that "third times the charm" and that you don't have to be taunted by that magnificent piece of scenery any more. It is yours.

Have you finished your airfield yet?

Cheers,
