More Magnets than a Tau railgun. I made good use of the Baal Pred. plastic icons. The sponsons are not only moveable from front to back but also the weapons themselves can be changed from LR, LRC, and LRR. The front hatch didn't close very well so I made some mounts and added magnets to make it close tight. http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/Srg1.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/Srg2.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/Srg3.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/SG1.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/SG2.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/SG3.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/SrgMag.jpg Here are the Srg. for my Assault Squads. http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/AS.jpg My two assault squads Here's a sample of my list in progress. 2000 Pts - Blood Angels Roster - BA 2k alit 1 Captain @ 155 pts (Unit Type: Jump Infantry; Judaz
How do you magnetize the arms on the marines with a good result? Do you pin them or do you use several magnets? AndyinUT
I use 1/8 x 1/16 magnet from Amazing Magnets or KJ Magentics. The 1/8 x 1/16 gives them a lot of holding power so bumps won't knock the arms of. For magnetizing a fist/ pistol weapon or shield I use rod magnets. I counter sink one rod magnet into the arm, and the have the one from the shield/ weapon extend like a pin. The holding connection is very solid this way. I use 1/16 x 1/8 rod magnets for this. Using the magnets makes painting easier and once i try some different weapons and I decided I'm only going to use the one load out I can always glue them later. I'll take some closer pictures of the marine magnets if you like. Judaz
If you could post pictures of the magnets it would be great! I'm in the middle of building my DC now and I want to have a couple of alternatives. AndyinUT
http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/upcloseside.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/upcloseshield.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/upclosebit.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/upclosetop.jpg http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq274/quixotic-andy/Blood%20Angels/upclosetertop.jpg Here's some shots of the magnet work. You can see how ou of the fist I have the rod magnet sticking out slightly to act as a post/pin for the fist. In one of the pics you can see the 1/8 Dewalt Ti coated drillbit I use. It's a good idea to get a decent quality bit as it will be nice and sharp and make your life easier. I don't use a drill and just turn the bit with my hand. If I hit a spot that binds, which is rare, I use a set of pliers to put a turn on it. It helps to use a pin vice an drill a small pilot hole so you lineit up where you want to magnet to go easier. Let me know if you need more info! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212304-humble-beginnings-to-my-company/#findComment-2527088 Share on other sites
Midnightmare
Excellent use of magnets there. It is something I am only just getting into now as I too want more options as I'm getting more into the playing side (work has started on my RAS with removable jumppacks). Anyways, keep up the good work these are looking good  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212304-humble-beginnings-to-my-company/#findComment-2527200 Share on other sites
Judaz
Thanks for the pics. I've been working with too small magnets I think, have to get me some rod magnets. Don't the cyclone missile launcher spin, or is it steady? MaleOpener
Don't you love how the DC/Snag Guard/Reg plastic marines come together nicely? The BA icon in a circle, where did you find those? Your post states your list is at 2001pts. I'd watched that, as it might cause a problem at certain games/events. Anyway, I to would like to see pics where your painting. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212304-humble-beginnings-to-my-company/#findComment-2527342 Share on other sites
AndyinUT
Thanks for the C @ C! I'll keep you posted on my progress. Judz: There's a specific "heavy weapons" Torso Back and front for the Cyclone Termie. The front which I don't bother using has hoses/wires going up to the launcher, but the back has tabs on top that coincide with recess' on the launcher. With the magnets in the center and the depth correct, it pulls the launcher onto the tabs. Bigger the magnet the stronger the hold of course. Thats why I go with the 1/8 x 1/16. they're deeper s they grab very well. I used 1/8 x 1/32 for my Tau and they just don't have the holding power. It is usefull however to buy a few 1/8 x 1/32 for spacers or fixing mistakes like sinking magnets too deep. For my Cyclone launcher (the magnets on the bottom of the launcher itself), the perfect magnet depth was one 1/8 x 1/16 magnet plus 1/8 x 1/32 on top of it. No guess work for drilling. MaleOpener: It's freakin awesome how eveything looks and fits together but hell on the wallet!!! Thank goodness for bits stores. The BA icons are from the drop pod. I buy them from bits stores like Hoard 'O bits on Ebay, etc. They look great in so many places. AndyinUT
1st Company Tactical Dreadnought Armor. Specials weapons suit is magnetized to change weapons load out. Notice the grail shoulder pads and large pouch for the Red Grail itself at thier hips. Those will of course be painted with a grail on them I hope. I'm also using Tau Photon grenades for the vials of "combat drugs" / blood or whatever it is they have on thier waists.
