It has been mathamatically proven that hg with LC's and other wargear equaling the sang guards point cost will out perform them when charging terminators.

Here is some math for you:

 

Take a squad of SG with the chapter banner. Take 4/5ths of the cost and add the cost of a SP: 259 points

Equip a HG squad with a chapter banner and power weapons: 255 points

 

So for 1 point per model the SG get a better save, better leadership, an angelus boltgun instead of a bolt pistol, and they are fearless. (I'll give you that PW + pistol is a hair better than Glaive Excarmine)

 

Clearly at this point cost, SG are more valuable per model than HG. If you are seeing the HGs with LCs outperforming SG it is only because LCs are better than PWs in that situation, not because the HGs are a more efficient use of points.
