I got a buddy of mine i am getting to expand his horizons when it comes to 40K

he is one of those diehard "eldar only" players, so when he started BFG after 40K he immediately went craftworld eldar.

 

So i have been getting him to try out other races to see the difference in the way fleets play.

 

last time he tried out the necrons, this time we went for something far mroe standard when it comes to BFG.

 

He opted to use my blackship fleet so i pitted it against my chaos forces under command of abbaddon.

 

We rolled up a general skirmish and went with the second setup. he chose to envelope me with a sphere and i went for the wedge formation.

 

Switching to normal movement of course throws some twists in plans. he split his fleet nearly 50/50 using squadrons(something i never do with ordo mallus cruisers) in doing so he left one half of his fleet slightly weaker and out fo mutual support of the other half.

 

I siezed the opportunity to engage the weaker force. even so with armor 6+ i ended up having to dump all my firepower over the course of 7 turns into 2 ships, one i destroyed outright after a crtical hit collapsed it's shields a few turns previous and the second died to a fire i started aboard it.

 

i didn't really do much with bombers as i had to constantly send out waves of fighters to keep his T-hawks at bay.

 

After i punched his right flank and killed his second ship we called it, assuming that i was just going to keep plinking away one ship at a time untill i killed his entire force as he tried to chase me down.

 

Afterwords we deduced that he should not have squadroned his ships. with the deployment rules he could have easily left a single ship on the far deployment zone and masses the rest of his force closer together,

 

Even set up as he was he would have been better served by reconstituting his fleet. turning the weaker force away so they could rejoin the others rather than closing to attack by themselves.
