Legends of the Liber

Which chapter do you want? I am quite happy for people to write about the Imperial Castellans, Black Guard or Dark Sons. I am keeping the Wings and Disciples out of this because they aren't finished, and I don't feel like I have the right to suggest the DH: White Scars ^_^
Here is the Legends of the Liber, a project for the various creators of DIY Chapters and Warbands to write a piece of fiction on their creations. However, an entrant must Feature somebody else's DIY creation similar to the DIY painting challenge.

This has me a bit confused. Does that mean what it says, that the writter are to write about their own chapter, AND feature someone else's chapter?

I'm wondering because I was considering writing on my own chapter.

I will sign up and people can choose any of my 3 chapters I have said.

the Chapter/Warband must be the protagonists

Would writing a story from the perspective of the enemy be allowed? Not in a manner that leads to the defeat of the chapter, but more the enemies perception of the chapter? This could be extremely handy for certain chapters.

I am guessing he means that if you don't write a story you have to create a mini of a character in the said story. Personally, I doubt if someone is going to flake on writing a story they are then going to make a mini. As this is a project of honour, I would suggest that anyone failing to enter a story places a large read L over their avatar for a week - much like I did after failing many things :P
- Stories must be a minimum of 8000 words (to be confirmed)

Yeah, about that. 8000 words is pretty long in my experiance. Most of my short stories don't go beyond 4000. I myself would reconsider. In my experiance 3500-5000 words should be fine. You can tell a story pretty well with that limitation.

I'll enter. But, I don't want to write about my own chapters coz I haven't fully fleshed them out yet. Anyone want me to write about there chapter? I've written a couple old short stories on the forum. (Posting this just to show that I am a decent writer and I probably won't butcher your chapter. :P)

Iron Resolve

and

Death Guard story

and for good measure.

Raven Guard story

Don't expect anyone to read them, but just to show that I can write and will try my best not to fail. So anyone want to volunteer their chapter?

Personally I thought he had added an extra 0 without knowing about it. 3500-5000 words I would suggest is not a short story for fan-fic but more of a story. I would suggest looking at between the 1000-2000 words, otherwise people might start dropping out/fluffing out stories with bad stuff.

As for writing your own chapter, personally I prefer the idea of writing about other people's chapters.

Yeah, I can churn out a 1000-2000 word story pretty easily.

My suggestions (and they're just suggestions):

  • Either everyone writes about their own DIY Chapter or they write about someone else's Chapter (I don't care if it's randomly determined or if members pick). If you have members write about their own, it would be feasible to have a longer word count requirement since there's more ownership, and you can have the conversion penalty since it's in their best interest to convert a model for their own army anyways. If you have members write about someone else's Chapter, the word count requirement should be reduced as Ferrata suggested, and the penalty for failing would be some sort of image (either the "L" added over the avatar or some sort of "I failed" banner for the signature).
  • If you arrange it so that members are writing about someone else's Chapter, the two members can coordinate via PM. The member writing the story will pitch their story idea and drafts to the "owning" member, with the owning member simply posting a reply each time they've approved one of the steps. Screen captures are more of a pain in the butt than anything, and they take up space that we don't need to waste. The writing member is responsible for writing a story that is respectful of the owning member's vision of their Chapter, with the owning member being mature enough to give the writing member a little bit of freedom.

I'm interested in participating if this is still open. I just need to know what the project "manager's" guidance is. If he decides to let members write about their own Chapters, I have a story in mind. If the decision is that everyone must write about someone else's force, I'd like to know what's available so that I can do a little research before I ask for a specific force.

I had intended each story to be written by the author of the article, but having everyone write somebody else's Chapter just seemed to fit. Problem is some people don't have a finished article and want to participate and I didn't want to disallow them. I am thinking that after the sign-up stage is over then there will be a 3 day time for each participant to select a Chapter and for rules to be finalised.

Also, those sig banners look great. I can't decide which one I want.

How about the second?

Shinzaren: I think having everyone write about another Chapter or Warband might be better. You know, strengthening bonds and all that jazz.

Reyner: Maybe one more banner will do for some extra variety. Also, could you post the code for each banner?
