I'm still figuring out rules myself, but I am really into fiddling with the minis and reading/discussing the background stuff. There's something for everybody in this hobby. Sucks about the hobby shop situation, and I feel your pain. I have to drive an hour to get to the one decent shop that I know of, because the one that is just down the way from my house has high prices and low inventory.
