Thanks for the comments Gents!

Ooh, very nice poses, only suggestion would be to lower the guy on the left's pistol?
And I would disagree with lowering the guy's pistol, he would look too stocky if you levelled the gun with his chainsword.

Yeah, I thought it would take away the "at the ready" look if it was lowered down.

*An embarrassing note: Since I lack any pose-able figures I decided to "test" the poses myself to see if it was realistic/would anyone stand around like that. Needless to say, when someone sees you standing still with invisible sword and pistol in a pose...they will think you are crazy. :)

Fair enough, although personally I like stocky Berzerkers. They get the same kind of general feel to them as Juggernauts - We might not hit fast, but there is nothing that can stand up to how hard we hit.

And that's ok, people think I'm crazy for certain, shall we say eccentricities, that the hobby has developed.

@Dark Apostle Thirst: No problem with having personal taste!

However, when I think of stocky I think of the current GW berzerkers, older terminators, and a fair few other figures where the arms are so close to the torso. like this:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010119.jpg

I just look at that old termie and wonder...who would stand around like that? I will admit that I like the "Come at me Bro!" pose.

I do hope to get more adventurist with hacking and GS'ing limbs to change up the mini's poses. I am basically trying to emulate a Black Legion army with some awesome conversions..

Well, I have gotten some work done on the berzerkers.

This is the current state of painting in progress:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010433.jpg

I tried to dirty up the armor since they are based on dirt/muddy. Went at it with some scorched brown and devlan mud. *It is not very viewable on the black armored right foot.

Also tried to do some paint chipping:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010434.jpg

With a sponge I tried adeptus battlegrey and then paint the line on the bottom with fortress grey.

It's ok but still need to practice this.

and finally a new addition

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010435.jpg

Repositioned the arm and that was about it. After this, I need to change the poses because this is the third berzerker with chainsword in hand and facing left. Although the poses vary that similarity kills me.

Hope you enjoyed, C&C always welcomed!

Are you thinking of building a gaming army of these guys or it's just a painting project???

in any way... I like how they are starting to turn out.

The Termies were going to be my only gaming army (If I ever get a chance to game) using the Loganwing set up. Everything else would be for those random one-off pieces for when I would want to paint a Night Lord, Howling Griffon, etc . However, I decided to make a small CSM Codex Army. So I was thinking of having Khârn (Fovvus) for HQ, and for troops have Berzerkers and a Shooty squad. Plus transport and if I keep this going I will add to it.

My idea is to keep the shooters a little back and pick off enemies with bolters (and maybe a melta or plasma) while a rhino drops off the berzerkers and Khârn right into the fray. Then just move the shooters to attack other enemies or close in, have the berzerkers do what they do best, and maybe keep Khârn a safe distance away from friends.

We'll see how it goes...

and one more update before the weekend, I made the 6th member of the squad.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010437.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010438.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010439.jpg

I was able to salvage another member of what would have been a chosen squad marine (the units I started to make for a SoM kill-team). That is why I have two marines hunched down, originally they were modeled to keep a low-profile in the sense that they would be sneaking around. Fortunately the hunched look was usable for a pose. So I am happy that the mini can continue its service in the name of the Renegade God.

I really want to call this guy Horned Toad and so far he is my favorite. I figure the horns on his armor are for trophies and holding up fresh snacks right up off the battlefield. If I try making a true-scale marine I would like to put a torn up IG torso on the spikes.

One thing I really decided to do to make some of these guys stand out was add a small flesh sheet and stretched face. So far this is the best I could do, I hope to make it look better when I sit down and paint this fella up.

Here are the Berzerkers of Malal as of today. Did a little bit of paint chipping to the two recently painted SoM and decided to make this squad into "pairs" (like Blood Gorgon Bond-Brothers). So that is why they are matched up back to back. I still have two more to make to finish up an 8 man squad (then I am out of bitz :) )

If anyone has a good tutorial or suggestion of painting dead flesh I am all ears! And as always, thanks for stopping by and hope you like what you see!

I like your True-scale Marine idea, it reminds me of something I wanted to do once.. hmm B)

I may try to make some True-Scale marines again one day and they may be for the SoM. I still want to make a kill team with an Astartes and some cultists. I just need to figure out the best way to do it. I was looking at making an Alpha Legion KT using the SW dex with a Lone Wolf (astartes in war-plate) and wolf scouts (operatives) but I think that would be too many elites *I cannot remember the rules for making a KT except that it has to be under 200pts. That idea though may get refitted for the favored Sons of Malal however:)

Love how your new white technique turned out very weather and battle worn! Oh and the flesh accessories look awesome as well!

Mr.Malevolent

Yeah, these guys were looking way too pristine so i got out of my comfort zone and tried add wear and dirt to them. It would take great skill however to keep white armor so clean in the heat of battle. :P

I am happy with my first attempt at the flesh accessory too. I had an idea from my fluff that I wanted to try out but a skin-cloak seemed the better route to go.

How recent do you want your dead flesh looking...dead?

I am thinking that it would be pretty recent as though a day or two had gone by. I also plan on painting/adding gore to these berkerkers and I think it would make sense if he made it from recent victims.

Any advice you can give would be great. I really like your Night Lords and I remember one having a flesh cloak. I think I am going to go find that pic and stare at it for a while in hopes to absorb its genius...

A double post!

Awhile ago on GW's site, it showed a Dark Eldar posed on top a falling and more than most likely dying marine (the gorget was covered in blood). I really liked the look and wanted to have a Son of Malice with an epic pose. So I decided to mimic something I saw with a BA jump pack army:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010449.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010450.jpg

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010452.jpg

*The weight of the hammer is countered by the weight of the SoM but the little base makes it easier to tip over. So I may trim up the base and with some glue and green stuff attach it to a larger base.

That is really it for now. If I get time during my Easter Break I will paint this and the built berzerkers. I just wonder what I should paint that loyalist victim though...Imperial Fist? Blood Angel? Red Scorpion? Hmmm......

C&C always welcomed as well as suggestions for the victim!

Usually two models sharing the same tiny base is pretty hard to get right, but you did an awesome job on it man. I'm really loving how these guys are turning out, brother, keep it up!

A Marine Malevolent... ;)

Thanks 1000heathens! *Edit: Also hope you weren't affected by Tornadoes in NC.

This is the second time I tried to model two minis on a base and happy that I could make it pretty quick. The only real problem I had was gluing the foot to the chest. It was pinned and everything but wouldn't stick. I just had to keep filing away at theloyalist's aquila until I had a flat surface to find purchase on.

A Marine Malevolent... <_<

I got one vote for a Marine Malevolent. If I could mimic yours that would be good practice for adding wear/tear/damage to a marine and I can paint my favorite color on a marine, yellow.

Thanks for the input Brother, I have some pondering to do now...

I second that.... make a Marine Malevolent, as those two seem to have a history together

Well....

Giving me the silent treatment brother?

...

Not my fault you received three rounds into your back. You should be joyful I didn’t kill you.

...

Still have nothing to say? It is your fault you know, you got in between my boltgun fire and my target.

Speak up anytime you wish to apologize for your behavior. I know my vox is not totally damaged, although there is some static. Damn feedback sounds like some fool hopping around with a jump pack.

As you can kinda see in that pic, I got some paint slapped on the Mini Diorama.

After thinking about the MM, I decided to look up everything I could online about them and then later I started reading Salamander. So far it has been an enjoyable read and it made me want to paint a Marines Malevolent and maybe down the road some Salamanders. So in the first pic was my Test MM, after that you see the current stage of the minis. Just basic colors before trying to add detail.

*paint a yellow on a marine has also inspired me to get back to my Loyalist roots... ;)

Glad you guys like it. Sooner or later I will add some more detail to them. Right now I just like how pristine they look.

Also, among some other things, I was able to make my Hister A'dol MKII :pinch:

Looking at my original (look at post 1, pic 2) he lacked any character and was a 'copy and paste' of some stereotypical CSM lord in TDA. I wanted my count-as to be on par with the Great Wolf himself since I would be using his rules. So I read some bits about Logan Grimnar, looked at some artwork and minis, and figured out a plan. First off, the weapons lacked luster. I needed a double headed axe and a bolter strapped to a forearm. Well, after some cutting, pinning, and greenstuffing...i made this:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc198/rongboy/P1010491.jpg

What I came up with was a brawler worthy of leading the Anarchist's Fist.

Hope you like it and C&C would be most welcomed!

I defintely approve of the new Lord A'dol, he looks totally badass.

I don't understand the names you keep choosing though, where are they from? Adolf (A'dol), Mengele, what's next, Himmlarr?

Thanks and glad you all like the pose. More pics to come when I have done some more substantial work. I got some sand on his base and painted it up but stopped because I have never painted stone before. Other than that, I bought some extra bases so the 'wolves' will be receiving attention soon. I also ordered a CoD floor pack for the corpse guard squads bases as well.

For the names, I started with the Lord, Sorcerer, Priest, and Lone Wolf using Nostradamus and his predictions of three heralds of the apocalypse. Then the first squad was named after historical figures and the second squad given barbarian names. I watch a lot of history/military channel and read a lot of books. I have been thinking about stripping their names though. I was thinking that they rid themselves of individuality and become known by their deeds and not their names.

It would be like seeing a faceless warrior wreaking havoc in the battlefield. The memory of what you see becomes how you identify that warrior. You do not fear the sound of their name but the nightmares of their actions haunt you.

That right there sounds so frikkin' bad ass. I think that was my biggest problem when I first started working on my Sons, I focused way too much on names and all that jazz instead of giving them that ancient/malicious/conqueror type of set-up. Names are important but I think its what they accomplish is what scares men more then anything. Knowing that this giant that's coming at you is capable of destroying everything you hold near and dear and there's nothing you can do to stop him is so sadistic and just evil. If you don't mind I think I'm going to run with this and get back to fleshing out my Sons again.
