Command Squads post-FAQ

So, for 125 pts (35 pts more than a tac squad), we can now have a 5-man command squad with 20 attacks on the charge and Feel No Pain. Or for 135 pts, we can drop the attacks down to 18, but get a couple of flamer templates out there beforehand. Any mileage in that? Or do we stick to the (still effective) twin-plasma squad?

Just trying to think about the less obvious changes that have come out of the FAQ.

Personally I have really been tempted to run a tooled out squad with apoth, plasma guns and plasma pistols. I know its not points efficient but something about it just seems...right. Must...resist. To answer your question seriously though, no I dont think command squads have much of a place in combat, even with FNP. Vets are better IMO but still not as good as hammerwing sadly.

I am of the opinion that Command Squads should be a Vet upgrade. Think about it... Why would a Company Master have less than Veterans be in his Command Squad?

Well, given the similarity in statline, presumably the Command Squad are veterans. However, they are also senior company officers and (presumably) members of the Deathwing, given their Fearless nature.

As to the rules, yes, they are another unit that will need to be re-examined in light of the FAQ.

I think they can be tooled for combat, but despite FNP they only have marines stats except for number of attacks. I envision them more in a counter-assault unit then a HTh specialist that you use to break the line in enemy's army... unless the enemy's army is Tau or IG.

my two cents.

That's a good point. They're present to support/defend whichever luminary they're deployed with.

You just clicked a lightswitch in my head, CL.
