Night Haunter's Guard

Whisper

Nice prank, well pulled sir

Thanks. I saw someone call them Chaos Smurfs in another thread and it got me thinking. ^_^

It's been raining the last couple days here so I haven't gotten much done with the actual army itself (not to mention thewarstore.com has been really dodgy with the shipping information for my order... )

Ho hum, hopefully I'll have something else to put up early next week, if not sooner. :D

Beautiful kit-bashing work here, really characterful! I'd maybe go with the blue heads except on those mini's that actually have the 'skull' looking helms, on them I'd do the whole helm in bone?

just wondering if you have brought the conversion packs from GW why not use the winged/skull helms in that
Because I strongly dislike how they look. They just look too silly for me... They make me think of big ol' moose antlers strapped to shrunken space marine helmets. ;)

I finally got my Warstore order, and the work has begun again!

First up, the Possessed Vanguard

http://nighthaunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Vanguard-Squad-1.jpg

http://nighthaunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Vanguard-Squad-2.jpg

These two squads are playing the roles of Vanguard Veterans, or in this case Vanguard Possessed. I made sure that they all still have their Bolt Pistols and Close combat weapons (the sergeants have Power Fists).

As far as the fluff behind these guys… They are lost and degenerate Night Lords who have fallen quite far into the temptations of chaos, which means they have forgotten the old ways of the Legion. Now the Night Haunter’s Guard have gathered up these corrupted Night Lords, not as brothers, but as beasts to be released on the enemy as a first wave of terror troops. The Guard may hold themselves to a higher standard, but they aren’t opposed to using their former brothers like they would any other terror tactic in their arsenal.

The reason these guys don’t have wings is also entirely based on fluff (I have more than enough Gargoyle wings laying around). When the Night Haunter’s Guard point these monsters at the enemy, they strap a simple jetpack on the possessed and kick them out the door in the enemy’s direction. They don’t get the fancy stuff.

Next up are the Night Priests.

http://nighthaunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/NightPriest2.jpg

These two are playing the role of the Sanguinary Priests. I have a hangup on trying to make things as wysiwyg as possible within the theme I’m working around. In this case I felt that they’d need the Apothecary arm to make it clear what their role is, that of giving their buddies Feel No Pain and Furious Charge. I’ll probably end up getting some Meltabombs and gluing them on somewhere, not sure where yet.

These two will also be the only figures attached to the Night Haunter’s Guard squads that don’t have any chaos symbols, spikey bits, or trophy racks anywhere on them. They zealously maintain the beliefs and tenets of Night Haunter, acting as living examples of the old ways of the Legion.

------------------------

Also, now that I've gotten the Soul Hunter Book, I see the big deal about making sure there are no eagles on their equipment. I spent quite awhile the other day filing and clipping all of the feathers off the first squad I assembled. When the first words of the book were "My sons, the galaxy is burning. We all bear witness to final truth - our way is not the way of the Imperium. You have never stood in the Emperor's light. Never worn the Imperial Eagle. And you never will." I knew I couldn't get away with letting the feathers stay.

Anyway, thanks for your comments!

Glad to see this thread again :) I thought that the possesed would look a bit more... crazy/insane. Oh well, they look great anyway! :)

While both your preists look good, I think the one with the heed looks better, he has more of the sinister/mysterious look.

Yeah, for the most part the possessed are just the models out of the possessed kit with a few regular chaos space marine bits and a sanguinary guard backpack strapped to their backs (plus night lords shoulders). *shrugs*

I wanted them to look blatantly corrupted by chaos, but no so far gone that they were becoming spawns. The default possessed kit was good enough for that with the right bits.

I still think they're fun, and they're not supposed to be the visual draw of this army anyways. I'll leave the pretty stuff to the Guard squads and the characters. :)

much better without the BA iconography and the feathered wings :eek

as for the priests, i think their legs look a little bland. while their chests look quite ornate.

you could green stuff a tabard or something like that, to improve them.

I can see what you guys are saying, but keep in mind that the legs will likely be getting bronze knee pads and plenty of lightning.

Though I may look into giving them chainmail loincloths. I'll think about it.

Thanks for the comments. :P

Ha, I missed the prank, good job. :D

You know what? I actually like that model and the idea of the tainted smurfs.

It's extremely sarcastic, and looks cool.

Of course they're not allowed to fight alongside their former battle brothers, but the main idea is so perverted that it's appealing. :tu:

Consider the gargoyle wings idea stolen! Would look awesome for anything chaos!
You and anyone else who want to use it is absolutely welcome to it. Wasn't even my idea in the first place, someone else suggested I try it. lol

Returning to the caonversaion a bit earlier, I can see wht you would be extremely hesitant to add iconography to the legs due to the lightning bolts. But what about the knee pads? Most lightning pattern I have seen skip that area, so you could put symbols there.

Here are the two characters that will be playing the roles of Commander Dante and my Librarian in this little adventure.

First up the Sorcerer.

http://nighthaunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Sorcerer.jpg

He's a bit of an outcast, considering his Sorcery and the Night Lords general dislike of such things, but he has proven himself time and time again to be loyal to the Legion above all else. He'll also be one of the few models in the force to blatantly display a full Chaos Symbol. I haven't decided what color to paint the robes yet, but I'm thinking it'll have some runes along the edge of the trim.

Next up, my version of Commander Dante, henceforth to be known as Warlord Dante.

http://nighthaunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/DanteFront.jpg

For the most part I was just going for something that looked dynamic and leader-like to play the role of Dante. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. Also, just for the fun of it, I put a skull on his jetpack, so that when viewed from the back, the skull and wings give the appearance of a large Night Lord's Symbol.

http://nighthaunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/DanteBack.jpg

All I've got left at this point is 3 more Night Haunter's Guard squads (Sanguinary Guard) one of which is almost done, a Furioso Dreadnought (from FW), and I may or may not have a Warhound Titan that will be added to the army too. *shrugs*

Than it's on to painting!

<3 Night Lords

I would like to see some more different poses to make your guys look more individualized but they look awesome.
