The mission was the Massacre at Belerophont's fall. The defender (Chaos) was fielding a complusory 3 HQ, each of which was an objective. The mission also uses kill points and the one with the most kp's at the end of the game would receive another objective.

As for special circumstances, the mission was being played at a hostile environment in a rugged moon, so all hills and buildings would count as dangerous terrain due to the dangers of falling debris from the wild sandstorms. Also, the attackers were launching an attack at sunset so at the beggining of every game turn a dice is rolled. On a 4+ the rest of the game is played using night fight.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the scenario is the deployment. The defender deploys first anywhere but within 12" of any table edge. The attacker would deploy next anywhere not in the defender's deployment zone but not within 6" (ouch) of an enemy model. A roll off is then made to determine who plays first - again making the scenario too unpredictable. The attacker does have an advantage on this one though, as he is getting a +1 on this roll if he deploys fewer units than the defender.

Narrative

++Massacre at Antioch++

Lord Typhus with his lieutenants was gathering his forces at the largest moon of Kravic II, Andioch. With the demise of Space Station "Arrogance", the nearby space sector was clear from any defender forces. And so Typhus was overlooking the contruction of the base from which future raids would be launched.

However not all would go as the Plague Lord would wish, as a contingent of Grey Knights managed to teleport a few miles from the traitors position. How could this be? There were no ships capable of this technology nearby. Could they have teleported from the surface of the planet?

It matter very little as the alarm was raised and plague marines were taking defensive position inside the half built station, with the sun setting in the horizon. The lunar storms would prove a challenge for both forces.

Pre Game

The deployment saw the chaos infantry entrenched in the radar station and the bunker.

The land raider containing Typhus and the Chaos Lord near the centre, while the Dreadnaught, Vindicator and Demon Prince deployed on the other side, just next to the landing pad.

Seeing a concentration of chaos forces on the north western corner, the Grey Knights came en masse from there with only the Dreadnaught coming from the opposite side, in an attempt to see rear armour with its buffed up autocannon.

The roll off saw the Grey Knights claiming the +1 and getting first turn - an important roll that one. We rolled for night fight at the beggining of the turn. It would seem the Grey Knights timed their attack carefully as the sun had just set. Night Fight for the whole game.

Turn 1

Grey Knights

The Grey Knights all arrived from the same aside, bar the Dreadnaught which appeared over the hills from the opposite side, ready to lay down suppressive fire on the Chaos lines. The interceptors flew onto the radar station, the blowing winds claiming one battle brother as he landed on a ledge and fell over. The henchmen moved to engage the chaos land rider which contained Typhus and his lietenant, readying their meltaguns. The land raider moved behind the halberd armed terminators.

In the shooting phase, the land raider assault cannon with psybolts destroyed one lascannon from the land raider, while the multi melta immobilized the gigantic tank. The terminators let rip at the plague marines inside the bunker claiming two with their psycannons. The dreadnaught failed to penetrate the Vindicator's front heavy armour.

In the assault phase, the interceptors valiantly charged the havocs, managing to keep their footing from the murderous sand storm. The terminators charged the land raider, blowing it up with a flurry of overcharged halberd attacks aided by Hammerhand and Might of Titan.

Chaos

The chaos terminators with the lord and Typhus moved to engage the henchmen. The vindicator and demon prince moved closer to the north western edge, where all the Grey Knights had all gathered. In the meantime the Chaos Dreadnaught went a little crazy and opened fire at the vindicator, the bolter shots ricocheting off the rear armour of the tank. The plague marines opened fire at the Henchmen's rhino destroying it with a melta shot. From the ground floor of the radar system the plague marines opened fire with bolters and flamers at the terminators, killing one and wounding the librarian.

In the assault phase Typhus with his terminator bodyguard, climbed the wrecked land raider and charged the grey knight terminators. The chaos lord charged the henchmen on his own, confident that he could take them down with his demon weapon. On the radar station the melee went on, the incinerator armed grey knight fell, while the justicar managed to vanquish two of his opponents. The havocs held their ground. The chaos lord rolled a 1 for his demon weapon not fighting this turn but making his saving throw. The henchmen failed to wound the bloated monster and the battle was a stalemate. In the grand melee with the terminators, one chaos terminator fell to halberds. The librarian wounded another one, but he made his invulnureble save. Typhus wounded 4 times the terminators, 2 of them falling while the demon hammer terminator making his inv save. In the end only the demon hammer terminator stood on his feet, refusing to give any ground.

Turn 2

Grey Knights

The Stormraven failed to arrive from reserves, the chaotic surface of Antioch proving a challenge for the pilots. The dreadnaught climbed the hill, moving closer towards the landing pad. The flamestorm cannon fired at the pplague marines inside the radar station, failing to kill anyone - tough bastards. The power armoured grey knights disembarked from their rhino and opened fire at the looming demon prince by the bunker wounding him twice. The dreadnaught opened fire at the chaos dreadnaught hiting its rear armour and immobilizing it, the powerful psybolts punching right through the steel containers covering the chaos walker.

In the assault phase the fight on the radar station came to a stalemate, neither side managing to damage the other. The paladins lead by the inquisitor charged typhus and his bodyguard still fighting the demon hammer terminator. Typhus struck first rolling 6 for his demon weapon, hiting the inquisitor twice but failing to wound him with his poisoned attacks. Next he caused 1 wound on each paladin slaying the one with the master crafter falchion with his force weapon. The inquisitor failed to hit Typhus, while the falchion armed paladin rolled 4 asses for his attack on Typhus. The rest of the paladins caused 3 wounds on the terminators slaying both of them. The surviving terminator managed a telling blow on Typhus, bringing the Nurgle Lord down. The chaos lord caused 2 wounds on the henchmen, the crusaders moving in to protect their brethren, one of them falling dead. The death cult assassin managed to score a wound on the chaos lord. Another stalemate and 1 victory point for the Grey Knights.

Chaos

The demon prince moved to help the chaos lord - those puny henchmen were tougher than he thought. The plague marines inside the radar station opened fire at the wounded paladins with flamer and bolter - causing 6 wounds but the mighty paladins saving all of them. The vindicator turned its demolisher cannon towards the grey knights with power armour... rolling a hit for scatter and killing 7. A devastating blow for the Grey Knights. The plague marines inside the bunker opened fire at the decimated grey knights but failing to kill anyone.

In the assault phase, the demon prince charged the henchmen. The chaos lord again rolled a 1 for his demon weapon - it seemed by this time that these weapons roll only 6s and 1s. Either way he took a wound, being left with 1. The demon prince killed 2 henchmen in his devastating charge but the death cult and the rest of the henchmen succeeded in taking down the bedazzled chaos lord. 2 Points for the Grey knights.

Turn 3

Grey Knights

The storm raven zoomed in from the northern edge and delivered its Purifier cargo while opening fire with its multi melta at the Vindicator rolling a total of 12 for armour penetration and failing to cause any damage. The hurricane bolters let rip at the plague marines inside the bunker causing 3 wounds but again their bloated bodies proving too much. The land raider again bathed the plague marines with its flamestorm cannon killing 3. The land raider assault cannon opened fire at the demolisher, failing to penetrate its armour. The inquisitor with the paladins opened fire at the weakened plague marines causing 3 wounds and killing one. The dreadnaught kept on shooting at his chaos adversary, this time the bolts stopping on the containers.

In the assault phase, the purifiers assaulted the Demon Prince. They succesfully cast hammerhand, raiding their strength to 5. Striking first thanks to their halberds, they caused 2 wounds leaving him with a single wound. Then the prince turned his attention to the strike squad which had the audocity to assault him, stomping them all to the ground with one powerful swoop. The henchmen failed to cause any damage and decided to run for it, as the battle had been lost by 3 to 1. The purifiers took 2 wounds but managed to save them both. In the melee on top of the radar station both sides managed to wipe each other out.

Chaos

The plague marines attempted to move out of the bunker into the storm-ravaged landscape to assist their prince, a steel construction beam falling near the entrance and pumelling the champion to his death. The plasma plague marines moved out as well towards the paladins (who forgot to assault the plague marines the previous turn), one of them dying to falling debris. The chaos dreadnaught barely spotted the paladins on the other side and opened fire and wounded the inquisitor. The vindicator shot at the storm raven hitting its wing and imobilizing it. The plague marines inside the radar station opened fire at the paladins, contributing their combi melta as well, managing to kill 2 paladins. The plague marines with plasma guns who had just left the bunker opened fire as well causing 6 wounds with bolters and none with plasmaguns. All wounds were saved by the hardy TDAs.

The plague marines charged the purifiers who were getting dangerlously close to knocking off the last wound off the prince. They caused 1 wound on the prince.... and he failed his inv save. All three leaders were lying crippled or dead. The plague marines, slow as they were stroke last managing to kill the incinerator armed purifier. Being fearless they stood shrugging off the 1 wound.

Turn 4

Grey Knights

Having their objectives completed, the grey knights attempted to regroup. The henchmen fell back...2 inches and barely stayed on the table. The remaining demon hammer terminator stayed put in his cosey land raider. The storm raven opened fire at the plasma gun plague marines, killing 1. The assault cannon on the raider opened fire at the vindicator failing to penetrate. The dreadnaught shot the chaos walker again, failing to do anything. The inquisitor with the paladin shot the nurgle marines inside the radar station again failing to cause any damage.

In the assault phase the inquisitor-paladin tag team charged the remnants of the plague marines in the radar station. Failing hammerhand, the tough hide of the plague marines proving too much. The plague marines managed to cause a wound on the paladin with the powerfist but he made his invulnerable save. The purifiers killed 2 plague marines, the remaining one falling dead from the extra wounds. The purifiers consolidated inside the bunker.

Fierce fight inside the radar stationhttp://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l534/Kodopitharos/Massacre%20at%20Antioch/AssaultintheRadarStation.jpg

Chaos

The vindicator moved away from the multi melta and lascannon arc of the storm raven. The plague marines with plasma guns moved towards the radar station, dodging succesfully the falling from the storm debris. The vindicator opened fire at the land raider, but its shot scattered wide. The plague marines kept on their valiant charge, again dodging the murderous terrain, slamming onto the paladin-inquisitor tag team. Again the grey knights failed the hammerhand and didnt manage to wound any of the traitors. In return the plague marines used their powerfists to full effect finishing off the valorous duo.

Seeing as there was no way to turn this around we called it off. The Grey Knights managed to decapitate the Chaos leadership in one swift swoop.

4 Campaign points to the defenders, bringing the phase to an even draw.

MvP Award : This goes to the Death Cult assassin who succeded on several occasions to wound the Chaos Lord and struck the killing blow on the Demon Prince.
