The Tempest Hounds

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys. Us traitors don't seem to get much love in the PCA forums. :)

Anyway, finished my next one. His name is Zaraknyel, formerly one of the Fallen-now the warband's sorceror. He had his robe repainted to show his new alliegance, while keeping his armor (what little is showing) the same. What do you think? Oh and I think I finally figured out a decent way to do the lightning!

And now for a group shot of everybody so far.

Well get that thing fixed! Yours are very nice as well.

Next will be the pyro brothers, two mutated CSMs with a affinity for melta-fire. I also want to make a large hulking sort of guy with a shield and hammer or axe. Not sure what weapon to use though. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :P

About shield-guy. What about power mace? This weapon seems to be not often to use in the conversion. Well-stylized mace can kick some ass  and be 'count as' power fist (or thunder hammer) or power wpn at the same time.

May I have another shots?

So, what I see: this miniature is more accurate (mean painting), than the guy with gigantic chain-sword. But, I think, armor asks for more highlights.

I like the idea, that melta has its own golden corners. It makes melta look master-crafted <_<

So, what's next?

Here's a few more. He's finished I think. Next will be I think the shield and mace guy. I found a pretty cool mace in the Chaos Knights box I think I'll use. After that this melta guy's twin. Think I'll use the same head but different arms and poses. They're not actual brothers but in my fluff they went through the same thing that turned them into what they are today. Anyways here's a few pics for you Ven. I like the way the melta turned out as well, wasn't very difficult to do either.

Edit: Oh and the blue isn't as bright as it looks in any of these photos, even the earlier ones. B)

So, what can I say additional now:

Try wash red parts of the wings and icon on the shoulder pad with baal red. Washing will create shadows. Then you can highlight the top of the wings, if you wish.

Also, as the next step of improving your bone-painting-kung-fu, try highlight edges of the bones with bleached bone

And, a bit more accuracy: devlan mud overlap the armor on the miniature.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the next guy and tracking this topic ^_^

Few more pictures. I'll post more when I'm done. Just have the winged backpack to finish up now, should be done tommorow if I don't get too sidetracked.... Not sure how I like this chestpiece with him but it's already glued on sooo.... -_- His shield and mace were actually really fun to paint I thought. Anyways here he is.

  • 2 weeks later...

So for one of the guys I'm working on I want to make him look a bit bigger without actual truescale. Thought of using termi shoulders but I thought that'd be too bulky. So instead I tested out using WHF chaos knights shoulders with some GS added. You think it works? I think if it was painted it wouldn't look too bad.

great choice of torso man  i love the zerker sprues, minus the hands, cuz they're just too big in comparison to the other marine sprues.

those fantasy pads work very well with the mutated arms imho, but you should remove the excess green stuff on the edges of the pads and it looks like there are some remains of the sprue still on them.

your GS looks a little yellow, was it on purpose to make it more sticky and softer? if not you should add more blue next time.

It looks like pre-heresy style to me. That's interesting ;) you may add some leather stripes from GS, if you wish - it'll be look better, i think.

Also nice to see you're back :( soon I will too

Aye, it's yellow-just using it as a test that's why I didn't mix it. I'm not actually going to use this mini I just wanted to test out the idea of fantasy shoulderpads. The actual guy in question will be wielding two axes and I've ordered some chains to link the axes to his arms. I'm borrowing an idea from Usiel for this next guy as well (for those of you that looked at his minis it's the horn that he converted into a head). I'm kinda at a loss as to what to use as a chest for this guy though (he'll have Mk V legs).

Little update. Progress so far on this guy. Borrowed this idea from Usiel. Had a little trouble with the lightning this time, getting my white paint thinned out enough. I'll probably end up redoing it.

Another little WIP update here. Redid the lightning and I'm satisfied with it so far. This is my first foray into using chains so I didn't quite capture the movement of the mini with the chains but it'll work for now, until I get better with the chains. Decided to go with gold for the weapon as nothing else seemed to really fit with my skill at painting and this guy is a beserker. Here's a few pictures. C&C welcome.

This last guy looks nice. I would say, that you can highlight corners of the lightnings with skull white.

But his pose is static, I think. Maybe repose his hands?

Where did you got gauntlets from? Chaos Knights from FB?
