Hazard Striping

Recommended Posts

In addition to Hemal's suggestion, make sure you burnish the tape down. Something with a touch of give but not too much, a rubber clay shaper, a plain old rubber (careful or it might grip too much and pull off your tape), or in a pinch a cotton tip.

Easiest technique (for me) depends on what you're painting.

Large stripes (Vehicles) I use a spacer made of a strip of plasticard. Cut the end to 45 degrees and put that flat against one edge, that gives you the angle. Mark one side with a pencil. Move the spacer, and mark out repeatedly. Paint between the lines.

Small stripes I freehand, and tend to work from the middle of a stripe outward gradually to get the required thickness. This helps in getting the spacing regular and the edges all parallel. If any of them are off, the whole thing can look shaky. But it's easier to take your time and build up the stripes thickness rather than try to get into a small area with tape or a spacer to mark it out.
