Smurfs In Spaaaaaaace!

Megapope

Recommended Posts

again megapope....well firstly thanks for stealing/modifying my real life nickname lol..... secondly this is funny.

But ignoring the other guy... they do look like transfers, but how do you get them? Are you printing your own like I will be?

Haha really? Crazy. I'm assuming you got the name from the HOL game like I did? I've been using Megapope online for years, I think googling the name now comes up with more of my forum and other content than it does the original game character.

And yeah, as the good Brother Fatiswon said they're from the Forgeworld A4 sheet. You can also get a generic Space Marine one plus from other chapters. I am also looking into printing my own though, since I've got a friend who plays Sons of Medusa which aren't supported.

Naw my RL nickname is just Pope. A friend I met a while back gave it to me as a stripper name mock up.... and the name itself stuck...albeit for reasons other then those involving strippers...of which I am far from.

But alright cool.....maybe I can dredge up this site I found with some fairly good priced sheets and instructions on what to do. It might be a week before I can and youd have to remind me but do it I can

Whooo! Update for great justice!

On tonight's episode: scout and scout and scout and scout and veteran!

First round of WIP...

Bolter dude!

Bolter dude!

http://i.imgur.com/Xn7kk.jpg

Yet more bolter dude! His shoulder got catastrophically messed up in an accident involving rampaging monkeys and a bus full of nuns, so I ended up sticking half a space marine shoulder pad and a clothy thing to cover up the mess. Sigh.

Sergeant dude!

http://i.imgur.com/BUnca.jpg

Sternguard dude! He has a forgeworld cybernetic arm, a Chapterhouse head and an Inquisitor shoulderpad... I'm going with him being an ex Deathwatch dude, even though the shoulderpad is on the wrong arm and is the wrong design. Close enough... :)

A WHILE LATER, SCOUT PROGRESS HAPPENS

Apologies for the massively bad flash photo. First level of highlights dont actually look that eye searingly awful.

http://i.imgur.com/OoCsJ.jpg

To make up for the flash, have some blur! In the process of sorting out the poor dude's shoulder. Starting to look acceptable.

And that's me. Worst photo update ever. :D

Tra la la, more scouts. Close to being finished now, with transfers and stuff.

Still to do: basing, highlight weapons, bit of tidying up/finishing on some details, gloss and matt varnish plus I need to get hold of a bigger drill for the heavy bolter. Maybe work on the highlight transitions a bit more too. Photos aren't the best. Need to source better camera and decent lighting...

good lord my friend...these are looking quite wonderful yet again. You have yet to cease to impress

Thanks very much. ;)

Smurfs in M[anly]k[illwear] 5 armour? You might just be my favourite Ultramarines collector, mate.

Woohoo! That's really encouraging! It's comments like this that make me always want to keep improving.

Loving the start of the command squad, the banner is awesome! So simple and clean.

Cheers man! I tried freehanding it but that turned into a lesson of anger management. Then I realised that I had everything I needed for a sweet composition in the forge world decals. Seriously one of the best purchases I've made so far, I think you'll agree. ;)

Been pretty busy this week with life, so the Command Squad are coming along slowly.

Progress so far: first level of highlights on the armour, first layer of gold (dwarven bronze) and a bunch of misc bits base coated.

Here are some progress piccies...

More updaaaaaaates!

Melta guy is pretty much finished, apart from drilling out his gun barrel which will happen when I get a larger drill bit. Pretty happy with how he came out.

They fight crime!

It's hard to make out due to the camera exposure, but the scrollwork on the bottom of the banner also has the IX X that's on the meltagun. I'm making it an element throughout the Command Squad. Not sure what it represents yet, I'll think of something. The apothecary also has it on his shoulder.

Oh hai.

Bit of a crappy photo, the blending looks better in real life! Anyway, my first ever attempt at a power sword and also at wet blending. I learned a lot, and I reckon I can hopefully do better with the next one. I think it's okay for my first attempt. Any feedback or tips on this would be welcome.

Twin Linked Bolters? HERESY! ;)

Others great paint job, definitely seeing more details and sharper highlights as this goes on.

You knocking my awesome home-made storm bolter? ;)

I'm actually considering switching him to something more entertaining like maybe a combi plasma...

Bit of a mini update...

Wanting to do a snazzy looking cloak but possessing all the freehanding abilities of a crazed emu farmer with no hands, I once again turned to that great tool of cheaters and scoundrels: transfers. Picking out one of the two pattern lines from the Forgeworld sheet, I cut it up into small sections and carefully laid each section along the base of the cloak, with small gaps where it was unavoidable.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ra6wKGjuv8/TrzVKS5_yWI/AAAAAAAABnc/7Skjq6OJ7R0/s1600/SDC13983.JPG

I think the only part here that I brutally messed up was the last segment on the right. I should have cut it in two, since it goes over a dip without the proper appearance of bending inwards. Not a huge deal and after some further finicking about it came out okay looking anyway, but it's a lesson for next time.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fppAY4xHU04/TrzVM9_bPyI/AAAAAAAABn8/Rq08FS13btM/s1600/SDC14004.JPG

And like all the great TV cooks say, here's one I prepared earlier. So after the decals dried I carefully joined up the missing segments with some white paint. It came out a teensy bit sloppy in places since it involved a bit more freehanding than I anticipated, but fear not! The next step was dry brushing on some dirt along the bottom of the cloak, and like the cunning weasel I am, I used this to cover up the worst of the blemishes. For the dirt I first used Calthan Brown, and then a very, very light brushing of Snakebite Leather.

Finally I gave the red highlights a bit of a boost, ran over everything with gloss varnish to seal it all in, and then gave it a last coat of matt. I think the end result is pretty decent.

Loving it.

I tried to do the same thing on the back of my captains cloak and just didn't have the wherewithal to consider breaking it into pieces and filling the gaps.

These things are a bit of a swine to manipulate. Definitely need to get some finer tweezers for using the really small bits...
