Minor update for completeness...

I realised that my bases needed sprucing up in the form of ROCKS. Everyone loves ROCKS!

So I got me a bunch of pebbles, painted them up and repainted the bases. I think they look a bit nicer now.

Ultrasmurfs. Now 100% rockier.

Back to plodding away on the rest of the command squad. ^_^

  • 1 year later...

Well it's been a while but time for an update! Here's a bunch of stuff that I've been working on.

Some Sternguard vets!

Finished my command squad...

And the chaplain... (first attempt at OSL on his jump pack)

And my force commander!

Rest of my stuff can be found here. Chur.

love the progress here!!! but dude....those mould lines trly ruin everything!!!

clean them up with fine emery board or extra fine sand paper before you prime!!!

other than that.... lovely work!

Yeah thanks, Captain Hyperbole. I'm very aware of the mold lines. They're not ideal but they hardly ruin the entire model.

More Sternguard! (Yeah I know, moldlines. I suck at remembering to remove the damn things)

These models about three quarters done.... based, inked, highlighted for the most part. Mainly tidying up, finishing bolters and other details, putting on decals and basing, etc.

These are pretty good, and you've chosen a nice shade of blue to work with. But I would try to tighten up those highlights a bit by going back over them with the base shade, leaving the lines cleaner and thinner towards the edges.

Mold lines on a white helmet...ouch. sad.png Getting those things off helmets is the worse I think. That, and bolter barrels. Seems like bolters and CCW arms are always several millimeters off.

So I got me the Librarian from the Dark Vengeance set to make into an Ultra-Smurf.  Here he is just after being base coated and inked...

Below is a quickie photoshop job to show what I'm thinking about doing with the front cloth piece as I think its a bit lacking currently. Any thoughts?

Great concept for the front of his tabard... Its hard to find good places to put Ultra symbols on that guy!

Gotta admit i prefered the smaller symbol, and the line of white to break up the blue though. Keep it up!

Like his flaming death hand too. :)

Thanks! Yeah I preferred the original mockup too but I found the smaller symbols I had from Forgeworld were too small! I might see if I can squeeze a thin line onto that tabbard though.

I decided to make my generic commander into Captain Sicarius. Here's a before photo and two after pics, showing what I did and the general improvement in painting that's happened over two years.

For s***s and giggles I decided to make up a heavy flamer Sternguard to add to my squad. I used a spare weapon from the terminator squad and away we went!

I basically just lopped off the top of the arm above the elbow of the terminator weapon, then attached a right facing upper arm from the standard space marine set. For the other hand, I got one of the bolter gripping hands and cut it off from the arm, glueing it back into place 180 degrees so it's now facing down.

This also involved a lot of mucking around with putty first so I knew everything was going to line up.

Here's how he looks with everything in place. The crested head is from Chapterhouse Studios.

Still a lot of tidying up to do, but I think he's going to be a pretty neat looking model!
